Georgia. Trinity Church in Gergeti.
"…white ragged clouds dragged across the top of the mountain, and a secluded monastery, illuminated by the rays of the sun".
(A.S. Pushkin, Journey to Arzrum, 1829).
The Trinity Church in Gergeti welcomes travelers to Georgia on the Military-Georgian road. Cross-domed church, built in the XIV century high on the hill above the village of Gergeti.
Church is located at an altitude of 2170 meters, at the foot of the extinct volcano Kazbek. Kazbek is very often hidden behind clouds. Picturesque places, and magnificent views open here despite the cloudy weather. View, at the church, and village located below. According to some reports, the church was built on the site of worship of pagan idols. Perhaps today in the Church there is an ancient pagan idol in the form of silver sheep. During the invasion of the Persians in the 18th century, led by Agha Muhammad Khan, in the Church sheltered Georgian relics, including the cross of Saint Nino.
