In this thought-provoking debate, we bring together two distinguished scholars to discuss one of the most profound theological questions: Trinity vs. Tawheed. Sheikh Nasser Karimian, a respected Islamic scholar, and Rev. Samuel Green, a renowned Christian apologist, engage in a compelling dialogue exploring the fundamental tenets of their faiths.
Sheikh Nasser Karimian articulates the Islamic doctrine of Tawheed, emphasizing the absolute oneness of God, a core principle in Islam. He delves into the Quranic perspectives, historical context, and theological arguments that underscore the indivisible nature of the divine.
On the other side, Rev. Samuel Green presents the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, explaining the complex yet harmonious understanding of one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He draws from Biblical scripture, early church teachings, and philosophical reasoning to elucidate the Christian perspective.
Throughout the debate, our scholars address key questions and counterpoints, providing viewers with a comprehensive understanding of both doctrines. They engage respectfully, offering deep insights while maintaining a spirit of mutual respect and intellectual curiosity.
Whether you are a student of theology, a believer seeking to understand your own faith better, or someone interested in interfaith dialogues, this debate offers valuable perspectives and a deeper appreciation of the intricate beliefs that shape Islam and Christianity.

Christians are led away from the authentic teachings of Jesus by Paul, who never met Jesus and wrote the new Bible. I'm thankful that Allah chose me to be a muslim

Jesus did meet Paul on the road to Damascus. The same way millions of Muslims meet Jesus these days - through dreams and visions. The crucifixion of Jesus is a historical fact. The sun does not set in a muddy pool. The Quran is a jumbled mess of some Bible truths and mythology all mixed together.

I feel sorry for Reverend Green. He knows he has a losing battle so every time he defensds his case he has to provide a false piece of information about Islam to kind of show that okay this is a problem we both have in Christianity and Islam. He might be fooling some of our fellow Christians who don't know any better but Muslims just listen and shake their heads at his nonsense.

@@ChukwuemekaJohnson Where should I start? Basically frequently when he was cornered instead of answering the question he would start talking about Islam. That does not sound like somebody who is really convinced about his own religion. When he was asked about why there were disagreements about several parts in the Bible among biblical scholars and historians. And how these parts (and actually whole books) are not authentic historically. Instead of answering that he would say yes we have the same problem in Islam. And that he has 10,000 differences in the Quran that he has at home. And then he is showing us two Quran copies and is trying to say they are different. Maybe because Christians are ignorant of the Quran so that would work for them. But as Muslims we all know there is one Quran. Difference in writing style or in pronouncing style does not mean they are different Qurans. He did the same thing when he started talking about the differences in historical transcripts and current Bibles. Then again when he tried to explain the unexplainable Trinity he started saying that in Islam we say that God blew Gabriel. Nobody ever claimed that. What does that even mean?!

Yours was the one at 1:29:53 right? In Islam we don't actually believe that you can get to paradise through works. It's actually through the mercy of God alone, which is explicitly stated in Islam. If God doesn't forgive us, which he will through expiation and repentance, then he'll hold us accountable for our misdeeds. And he will also generously reward us for the good that we do for his sake out of his many loving attributes. In these ways he is just but also merciful. I hope this answers the question more to your satisfaction. And I can provide references from Islamic sources if you're interested. Just a note, in the Old Testament of the Bible and the sayings attributed to Jesus you find something similar. In Ezekiel 18: 20-22 it teaches that sins are forgiven by repentance, and Jesus teaches in Matthew 19:16-30 that eternal life is by following the Law. He didn't once teach the atonement that Christians believe in. It's Paul who teaches that grace is free and that Jesus died for you. Jesus taught faith and works, which is corroborated by James. In the OT it's explicitly stated that God does not require nor desire a sin sacrifice in Psalm 40:6.

@@sub7se7en Thank you for the in-depth response and explanation of The Islamic point of view on salvation. I learned something new 🙏🏾! However, with all due respect your perspective on the Christian faith when it comes to salvation is skewed. A common mistake Muslims make when it comes to Christianity is reading the Bible as though it was the Quran. Or reading to seek contradictions without context. Christian’s do this as well. Jesus in the gospel states he is above the laws because he has come to fulfilled them (Matthew 5:7). He also constantly states that salvation is through him ONLY (John 3:16-19, John 14:6). Paul is a proven vessel of God with revelation and a necessary voice post-Christ. Similar to how Muslims see Muhammad. Paul and James do not butt heads when it comes to salvation. James is not saying only works save in his writing or faith + works. He is saying you must have a faith THAT WORKS. Anyone can believe but their faith is futile if it doesn’t produce fruit as Jesus says in John 15:2. All still in the umbrella of faith.

Tawheed is actually very easy and simple until someone filled with ignorance, false beliefs and/or arrogance start using media to spread false ideas among humans which caused Muslims to reply and things get complicated. If you told anyone about Tawheed without being exposed to these stupid false ideas, it will be as simple as it can be. That is not the case for Trinity at all.

ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ 1:54:34 One of the questions was a little disrespectful at the end regarding the “ransoming of Christians to take the abode of Hell.” I commend Sheikh Nasser’s reply for not answering without any knowledge on the topic. This question has been specifically answered by Imam An-Nawawi (Rahimahullah) in his Sharh Muslim and by Sheikh Al-Qaadi Iyaad (Rahimahullah) in Mirqaat al-Mafateeh. To wit, the Islamic position needs to be taken holistically. A hadith in Ibn Majah states that for every Muslim, there is both an abode in Paradise and an abode in the Hellfire. If the believer enters Paradise, the disbeliever in Hell will take his place, because he deserves that due to his disbelief. What is meant by the words “your ransom from the Fire” is that you were exposed to the risk of entering the Fire, and this is your ransom, because Allah, may He be exalted, decreed a number for it to fill it. Because the disbelievers will enter it because of their disbelief and sin, they will effectively become like ransoms for the Muslims. It should be noted that is not contradicted by the fact that the Christians and Jews take the sins of the Muslims. Rather, the Jews and Christians are sentenced to punishment for their disbelief, and their “ransom” is only likened to “salvation/sacrifice.” I hope this clears the air. Anything I said correct is from Allah, and anything I said incorrect is from me and the Shaytaan.

Salam Brother. I attended your al maghrib class in Charlotte. MashAllah so thankful you represent Muslims so wonderfully. I still have the notes from your class. I would like to suggest that next time, the audience may benefit more if you spoke more steadily via presenting less divinity claims. That way, your points will sink their thoughts. They are very heavy thoughts and worthy ones , but the audience is forced to discard realizations when you move on because it can be overwhelming to ingest the points while also keeping up. JazakAllakhair.

However, upon deeper reflection, it becomes clear that this is a significant opportunity for Muslims to share their message with both the attending audience and online viewers. This presentation is designed to be as long as necessary, allowing you to pause and rewind as needed to focus on what is most important to you.

Dr. Karimian - I've consumed a great deal of information from the Internet from watching RU-vid videos + reading on this subject of the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus. I've watched 100s of videos of individuals providing Dawah (e.g. Muhammad Hijab, Zakir Naik, Ahmed Deedat, Ali Dawah, Uthman Ibn Farooq from One Message Foundation, etc). This I have to say is quintessentially the most concise, clear, organized, and thorough explanation of indicating why the Trinity is incorrect. The most important thing in my view what you did was 1) Use information straight from the bible to make your claims; 2) You provide this in a very clear, organized Presentation that was easy to follow. May Allah bless you. I will continue to always come back to this video. I hope to meet you one day to thank you for all of your work.

The Quran includes the whole collection of recitations, and these whole collection of readings are preserved as one message with several recitations. Is that hard to understand? If so, then, let's say that the UN have a decision and they wrote it in several languages, so are you going to say that these are different decisions?

This was a comment i made to someone who came between me and Jesus, as a revert muslim. As if Jesus did not belong to me to learn from. Originally, i had told the person to be more like Jesus while he couldn't fathom why i had said that. Seperating me from the messenger. Comment: In a hall there are 3 tables. Judaism (1), Christianity (2), Islam (3). Table 1 denies Jesus. The people in that table don't allow him to sit there, as it goes against what they believe. Table 2 allows all of the prophets from table 1 to sit at their table, and of course, Jesus. Table 3 allows all of table 1 and table 2 to sit at table 3, as their seats are reserved in going with the belief. Table 2 does not allow Prophet Muhammad (SWS) to sit there, nor does table 1. Table 1, and 3 believe in the monotheistic concept of God. Table 2 believes in Jesus or the son of man to being God; putting Jesus above all who sit there. All of the prophets in table 3 submit their will to God the Creator. All of them put God above them, and spoke saying that God was greater than all, and all things. Jesus spoke as one who sits in table 3. In that table, no prophet is greater than another, rather they all behave with the notion that God is the greatest, they are nothing without him, and they all pray to him. From what Jesus learned about table 1, do you think he'll choose to sit in table 2, when they behave the same in denying Muhammad? It will befit table 2 to be better than the people in table 1. Surely Jesus sits in table 3. Where we all worship, he who created the hall. So, bear witness that we Muslims do hold Jesus in high regard. We sit in a huge table. A table where all the prophets sit, and all worship 1 God. The one who appointed them all. In this table, all of the prophets would rejoice in knowing that those who seeked their Lords pleasures followed one prophet more than the other (with no competition). There is no difference because in this table, the more that the messengers lead the people to God (collectively), the more they fulfill their cause, and their cause is Gods cause. They are with God. For they seek not their own will, but the will of God. If you would be a better Muslim than Muslims, then Glory be to God for this. I would welcome you so. I have seen this behavior in Muslims, and yet to see this behavior in those who say they are Christians. So tilt your ways. That I may pat your back with good intent. And perhaps one day you will pat mine, in accepting that I accept the examples of Jesus. He would be pleased with us, and more so, God would be. His examples are up for grabs after all, so make haste, that you'd be better than I 🤲🏼. Be wise, brothers and sisters. It shall benefit us all.

1:25:40 basically hes asking "How can Allah be Merciful if there is no one to be Merciful to?" Very simple answer. All of the sifat of Allah, the attributes, are innately within Him from eternity-past. He eternally-possesses the attributes of Mercy, Justice, Knowledge, Will.... Just because one or more of the attributes is not eternally in action, does not mean Allah does not possess the attribute(s). In order for Allah to create the universe...He must first already possess the ability to create. Being a Creator means you have the ability to create. It doesnt mean you are eternally creating things. And to Allah belongs the best of examples. Edit: 1:27:19 Wallahi brotha.... You nailed the coffin shut on this "argument" way better than I ever could. You just flipped the script on him

When Jesus said he is the God are one, so, how would the trinity would justify that a god person is the same as the god head of three persons? And would we now say that the nature of God is a mixed nature of God and Man? Isn't it a circular definition? Trinity by itself is really just a mess.

Green sometimes says the Quran is the written book and sometimes it is the spoken recitation. The Quran is both the written book and all the spoken recitations proved to be coming from the prophet himself. And they match very well. The written book is not meant to read from but it is an additional way to preserve the Quran with all its recitations together, beside that the written book itself have its own miracles other than the miracles in the spoken recitations, as are all revelations from the Almighty Creator SWT.

Reverend Green says that his problem with Islam is that it is just coming from one man, and the Biblical message as understood by Christians like him is coming from many. This is a fallacious argument. Christians generally seem have doctrines that they believe in already (the Trinity, Pauline claims about faith justifying one, faith in Jesus's death being sufficient etc.) and they back-project that onto the Bible. That is to say, they do not follow evidence, they have a conclusion already, and they impose that onto the Bible. It seems to be a very emotion driven faith. This is from the question on "why don't you believe in Islam - is it due to logical contradictions or simply because it doesn't agree with Christianity?" I think if Christians adopt a more open-minded framework where they question their pre-conceived conclusions, they might not be able to win a debate, but they would learn more.

Professor Bart Erhman, one of the world’s best New Testament scholars, teaches a good course on this, and has written a book, on just this subject, “How Jesus Became God.” BY THE END OF THE CENTURY, some Christians were beginning to think of Jesus as a God equal, or nearly equal, to God the Father. Earlier on, Jesus was thought of as the adopted Son of God, and the Gospel of Mark backs up that view. It was only by the end of the century that many Christians were beginning to believe in Jesus as a fully divine, pre-existing being. And it took a few more centuries still for the Doctrine of the Trinity… Jesus as fully God equal to God the Father… for orthodoxy to completely embrace that doctrine. Before the end of the first century, most Christians were “Ebionite” Christians, who essentially were like today’s Messianic Jews. It is my belief that these ideas accumulated more and more after Jesus’ death. There is Biblical evidence to suggest that Jesus never taught he was God, although some passages in John (which is where the “I am” comes from) suggest he did think he was God. But in the Synoptics… Jesus, when he teaches how to pray, never ever says, “Pray to me.” Never. It is “Our Father” who art in Heaven, not merely “my Father.” All the peacemakers, he claims, “will be called the sons of god.” Jesus asks, “Why do you call me good? Only one is good, that is, God.” That is a troubling passage that is in all three Synoptics: Mark, Matthew, Luke. He says the time of the Second Coming “is known to the Father but not the Son.” And so on Theologian Walter Farrell in his book 'Companion To The Summa vol. 1 chapter 7' writes: The Trinity is a mystery; no doubt about it. Unless we had been told of its existence, we would never have suspected such a thing. Moreover, now that we know that there is a Trinity, we cannot understand it. The man who attempts to unravel the mystery is in the position of a near-sighted man straining his eyes from the Eastern Shore of Maryland for a glimpse of Spain. We cannot probe the depths of the ocean of divinity with the foot-rule of the human intellect.

The Muslim speaker is making things too technical. He responded to the Hafs and Warsh Quran argument with technical jargon like ‘dagger alif’ and ‘ahruf’ which would completely escape the Christian audience. I think he needs to do audience analysis much better and simplify things much more. He made this technical approach too many times during the debate and it will not persuade a Christian who hasn’t already done significant research on Islam. One way he could’ve explained the warsh and hafs difference is to say the way the reverend called him Nasser with an Australian accent is different from how it would be uttered in Indonesia

Rev. Green's response to the question referencing Ezekiel 18 missed the mark from the Christian perspective. I do believe from the Christian perspective Adam is the human father of man. Adam committed the Original or first sin which was according to Christian theology passed along to all his descendants. Man is born from sin in sin. A corrupted understanding of the Jewish theology as it clearly states the son can not inherit the sins of the father and vice versa.

1:52 i feel like the inconsistency in the way rev green answered this question sums up why i do not find the trinity, as a doctrine, compatible with monotheism. "i dont see the trinity as difficult because gd is different to us,, he a higher order Personal being, and i dont think we should use our own experience of a personhood to say what gd should be like" as far as i can understand it, the logic of the trinity rests on an axiomatic assumption of the quality of g-d's essence, that gd is a 'personal being', a being with the quality of personality, and because g-d has 'self hood' he must therefore have a 'self concept' that is akin in some way to the relationship of a person and their ego. but unlike the imperfect human ego, where the mind and the body seem not to be unified,,, where its possible for a person not to know the condition of their own being-- to be 'self unaware' ,, the perfect unity of gds being, and gds self concept aka word, means that they are 'distinct persons'. surely, if we aren't projecting the characteristics of human experience onto gd, then least of all would we be obligated to think that, the higher order being of gd MUST exist in the particular form of a self and a self conscious personality that is perfectly dualistic instead of imperfectly so. the problematic, near pantheism of the trinity, besides not being described in the bible, seems contrary to its most important commandment, in some ways. to me, it feels like the only way to find support for the trinity is misinterpretation, most generously due to mistranslation and most cynically due to christological eisegesis. but i think its pretty damning that 1. its basically only in john, the latest gospel historically and 2. the church fathers could not agree, for the first 200 years, on the doctrine of the trinity, and the history of its development and final ecumenical acceptance 325/381,,, raise definite questions about whether it was purely scriptural, or if it was not a philosophical or politically motivated interpretation. i guess my question to christians is--- if "the word" of gd did not exist, would gd exist, or not? this seems to be a necessary implication of trinitarian belief. if the answer is no, gd could not exist without the word in my opinion youve failed the monotheism check. if you answer is yes, gd could exist without the word, then youre doing some kind of subordinationist heresy by denying that jesus is coeternal to the father, and you're no longer practicing orthodox christianity. which i personally think is fine (because at least it is reasonable), but i dont think most self identifying christians would agree. i put forward that a triune self relational understanding of gd is not properly eternal. relationship is a state of becoming--- relation is a second order description from an observer perspective. gd is in a perfect state of being, to be in relation, to be an unfolding 'becoming' essence, is to put gd's nature into terms of contingent temporal existence, to very necessarily human way to describe existence, but not a way necessary for, and seemingly contrary to, the existence of a "higher order" being. what if an aspect of gd being all powerful, is that gds will and gds being are not two like us, but one? of course, we cannot comprehend what it would be like, for being and will to be one. to us,our spirit seems insurmountably separate from the physical, and realizing our will, making our will reality, is not always possible and always requires effort. to be able to understand the existence of this kind of oneness, would require us to imagine transcending the physical, embodied, temporal nature of our existence. to describe gd as a trinity rather than perfect unity ascribes temporal nature to gds existence, it puts his existence in terms of our personhood.

In Islam, God is a rab, which is a much more precise term that includes all the attributes of a father beside the humanly begetting part, which was assumed and misused by pagans led Christians to create their false pagan religion of Christianity, and that why this term is not used in the Quran. This is part of the mutable shariah, not the basic tenants of faith, as both Father and Rab can be used for God, but the term Father was corrupted by Christians, so it is not used anymore.

If God is supernatural then he can manifest in human form the doctrine of the Trinity make more sense than tawhid.
@zaydquarless1046
@zaydquarless1046 Месяц назад
James, God is "supernatural" therefore he cannot manifest in human form. He cannot limit himself and his attributes. For example, God is All-knowing, he cannot become ignorant. God is Eternal, he cannot die. God is Just. He cannot become unjust. He will not enter his creation and become subjective to His Laws which govern the universe. The reason why the Trinity DOES NOT make sense is because you cannot even find it in the Bible. However, you can find tawhid in the Bible and Quran. I challenge you. Show me one verse in the Bible that says God is 3-in-1. Show me a verse that says 3 persons equal 1 God. Show me one verse that says Jesus, The father and the holy Spirit are co-equal? You have zero evidence for Trinity. However, the oneness of God is found all over the Bible. The Bible literally says "God is 1" Tawhid is in the Bible, not a Trinity.

@@zaydquarless1046 In Mathew 28:19 Jesus commanded his disciples to baptize everyone in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit. The bible clearly explains God the Father is the creator and Jesus is the eternal word of God through him he created everything and the holy spirit is the divine power of God...... This clearly proves they are coeternal, coequal and coexistent...for example soul, body and spirit. Luke 1:35 NIV “The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the Holy One to be born will be called the Son of God.” Quran 4:171 O people of the Book, be not excessive in your Faith, and do not say about Allah anything but the truth.The MasīH ‘Īsā, the son of Maryam, is only a Messenger of Allah, and His Word that He had delivered to Maryam, and a spirit from Him. The bible and the Quran both of them agree that Jesus was born of the holy spirit so why is Jesus not eternal?......If Jesus was born of the holy spirit then why is he not eternal?.

@@james-yf9wm Matthew 28:19 has been known by many Christian scholars as an interpolation. Have you noticed, every disciple who continued to baptize in the Bible, only baptized in the name of Jesus. If this was a real command of Jesus, they would have obeyed. They did not, and there are many verses that have been proven as interpolation and not found in the oldest Greek manuscripts. For example, 1 John 5:7 has been removed from the Bible in all new Bibles including the NIV, ESV, and others. This is another example of why they tried to add it in the Bible because it is not there. Check King James 1 John 5: 7. Then check NIV 1 John 5:7. You will see 2 completely different verses, one that says trinity and the other does not. If you read the footnotes in the NIV, it will tell you that the trinity verse is not found in the oldest manuscripts. These are Christian scholars saying this, not Muslims. Look at my original question to you. Even the verse you mentioned, all 3 are mentioned but never called 1 God, never called equal, etc. I will let you answer this before going into your Quran claim. However you are misinterpreting the Quran through a Christian lens. Muslims unanimously understand that Jesus is creation and God is Creator. The Quran teaches that everyone and everything is created, and Allah is uncreated and eternal.

@@james-yf9wm okay, thanks. A better translation is a word "from" Allah. The word is displayed throughout the Quran and it is "be." He was created in the womb of a virgin and Allah simply said "be" and it is. If Allah decrees something, he simply says "be" and it is. That is how easy it is for Allah to create and the "word" from Allah concerning Jesus was "be." You are misunderstanding "word" and "spirit." The spirit is referring to the soul of Jesus being put into the womb of Mary from the word "be." Think about it, Muslims who study and understand the Arabic know that Jesus is created by Allah and he is similar to Adam, Allah says "be" and it becomes.
