I was very happy with the food as I live abroad and really miss home sometimes. So to travel via Amsterdam and get homey food was a nice trip throughout memory lane. I think it’s great they have those intentions. Thanks for watching!
Very good video. Thanks for sharing especially the food and snacks. KLM 747 was my first overseas flight from Houston. Loved every minute of it. Now that I'm retired, I need to take the KLM again for old time sakes.
Hey Daniel, thanks for your comment and for watching! If you like to see the food have a view of my Air France B787-9 flight in Business from Dubai-Muscat-Paris, insanely lot of food! Good ole’ B747 days.. I guess it was the B747-200 that you flew from Houston? Please do take KLM again, they’re lovely. Not the on B747 anymore but the B787 is quite nice though😁.
I was just yesterday in a restaurant and when I saw meatballs on the menu I remembered I want to fly KLM again😂. As your name is A340 fan, that should actually be my priority: the A340. Maybe with Swiss. Thanks for watching!
I share your enthusiasm for KLM. A few yrs back KLM had 747 nonstop flights from Baltimore to Amsterdam. I used to love watching the plane taxi out to the main runway and zoom off.
From Baltimore on the B747?! What a surprise, I didn’t know.. Back then profits didn’t really matter as many airlines just had random routes on oversized aircraft. The enthusiasm comes as I have great memories with them since a kid, so it always feels special😁
I am amazed at all the info you provide in your videos keep up the great work. Also the meal you got on this flight in the long haul economy looked amazing! Puts domestic U.S. airlines FC meals to shame! I've always liked KLM and this video just reinforces that fact even more! Subbed! Thanks and keep the videos coming. ;)
Thanks a lot! The meal was indeed very nice, specially the elaborated salad. Regarding the US FC meals, I don’t really blame them actually. I kind of understand the logistics behind. Just imagine the thousands of daily flights from Atlanta: how on earth can one manage the logistics of keeping up top quality and presentation on such a huge scale? My 2 cents..! Thanks for popping by!
@@TheLayoverAviation Windy to be honest, which is just typically dutch haha so nothing new xD. Yup, will be headed to Dubai towards the end of Feb probably. On Turkish Airlines. Hope I get the A350.
Is it really you Jeremiah?! So cool! You didn’t take long at all, better safe then sorry, right? Customs took long, but ok, Covid.. Thanks so much for your hard work and hope to encounter you again in YYZ!
This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I'm really amazed; the quality is great and as aeronautical engineer I really appreciated all technical informations you provided. I'll subscribe now. Greatings from Italy.
Grazie Matteo! I’m very happy you enjoy it. I’m sure that as aeronautical engineer you know tons of interesting things to share😜 I like to share the basics with those that are interested in the details. Thanks for subscribing and greetings from Dubai!
Well informed about the Asia rights!! You have done a lot of home work my friend! yeah taxiing to 36L easily takes 30min depending on departing gate! Again great professional coverage!!
Ah thanks! Just came off a Turkish Airlines A321 2 days ago, was seated next to door 3 and didn’t notice. Didn’t know that one! I wish you happy flights!
I landed in Amsterdam three weeks ago for the first time. By the runway there was a guy off his bike looking at planes. It felt very dutch (the bike thing).
Great trip report as always! I haven't flown KLM since I was a kid, but to this day it's still my favorite airline/in-flight service. Can't wait to be back on board!
I love your reviews. It’s so clear and informative. I can’t afford premium flights.I have flown only budgetary as of now. I feel as If I’m flying while watching this review. Thank you so much for cheering my life.✌️
I’m glad you feel that way. I’m happy it cheered you a bit. I flew budget for a big part of my life, we all have to start somewhere😅. Thanks for the awesome comment, have a nice one!
Excellent trip report. You are so knowledgeable. For a person like me with limited knowledge in aviation, there is so much to learn from your trip report. Thank you for a great report.
I never missed a flight in the last 15 years and suddenly I missed 3 in 5 days. Think it was likely due to goverments panicking for Omicron. Extra Covid tests and checks everywhere🥺
My first 3 hours were quite hell, but ok, just Covid procedures to follow. Can’t wait to visit again under normal circumstances. Canadians are by far the friendliest people I’ve encountered!
@@TheLayoverAviation I’m sorry to hear about the ordeal you must’ve been through. Circumstances are such all over the world at present. I am looking forward to see your next video ex YYZ. Hope your future travels to Canada are less eventful.
Very comfortable, right?! Just the view might have been slightly worse. Very interesting these new destinations KLM has since covid. Was the flight full?
@@TheLayoverAviation yes it was really comfortable. The view was just good not perfect. Yes the flight was very full when we booked we where in economy and when we got our seats we were placed in the middle of the plane and everything else was full so when we checked in we asked for an window seat and they were so kind to give us a seat in economy comfort next to a window. So it was a really good and exiting flight.
I loved your video, I usually am pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the meals even in economy on international carriers, KLM is on my bucket list. They discontinued their DFW service, but someday....🥰💙
KLM is great, I always have a good time with them. While it can’t be compared to Singapore, etc in the super high standards, it plays in a league of their own with some other “chill” airlines. I hope they reinstate DFW. A much better choice then American! Thanks a lot for your comment!
I think the wing noise from the B757 is much louder and like the B787, it's a great aircraft! I'm an MD 11 pilot and my very first passenger flight on the Mighty MD 11 was a deadhead AMS to IAH with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines back in the mid 1990s. Great flight, crew and company! I enjoyed the video, thanks for sharing.
MD-11 Captain, what a legend! It was my favourite aircraft, went nuts for it as a kid. Too bad I won’t fly it again. Haven’t flown on a B757 in +15 years, think Iberia was my last one. But the sound is stuck in my head! Will have to fly it again to remember😁 Thanks a lot for the comment!
@@TheLayoverAviation unfortunately, like the MD 11 has, the B757 is disappearing from the skies in passenger configuration. I've been on the MD 11 for the last 11 years. Was on the B 757/767 before that and the MD 80 before those. All great machines. #FlySafe
Avianca A319 to San Salvador - that's a long way in an A319, horribly uncomfortable, too. I just landed on your channel and I like your delivery. A tongue-in-cheek bit of humour (humor) along with relevant information about what's going on around you. Yea!, no loo review. Who cares, they all suck, and are never done at the end of the second meal service when the lav is swimming in piss and people trundle toward it without shoes. Well done. You obviously love KLM but we have had several horrendous experiences with them to Asia. The last straw came when we were abandoned by KLM in Taipei (the aircraft was "Tech" in Manila but KLM said it was delayed by 30 minutes, then another 30 minutes, then another... we could see it online!). They didn't feed us, they didn't provide accommodation or onward travel until fifteen hours later. We felt like we were in a Tom Hanks movie - an empty airport and shops closed. KLM eventually flew us to Bangkok on a China Airlines Boeing 747-400 (very nice and great service), then on to Amsterdam where I had a glass of wine dumped in my lap by the a-hole in the seat in front who threw her seat into recline without checking if it was safe to do so. We''ll never fly them again.
Thank you for the comment! Indeed a very long flight on the A319! Central American Airlines, like Copa, have insanely long flights on narrowbodies. About the lavatories, I really think it depends on the passenger profile. Some people just don’t have manners. On a flight to Japan however it’s spotless. And yes, disgusting to walk barefoot, I also noticed these things. I’m sorry to read your experiences. Hope they don’t repeat. 15 hours at an airport is never ending. Can’t even imagine; my record stands at 9 hours in Rome courtesy of an Alitalia delay😅. Thanks for watching, I wish you many happy flights!
Thanks Aswin! Many plans to fly each Indian carrier, can’t wait. I’m just however waiting a little for the Covid madness to ease as there are many restrictions into and out of India for me. Let’s hope it’s soon! Thanks for watching😉
Schipol is a really different Airport NGL. I was stuck for 2 hours in security at BLR in 2014 cause' I had a Pepsi can on my baggage. The Netherlands being WET (No Inuendos Intended) is a true stereotype. You could see the Reflection of the beacon light in 3:+3 Also Garuda Indonesia has a really bland livery ( 2:33 ) My mouth was watering at the balls (AGAIN,NO INUENDOS INTENDED) in 13:07 till I realised t'was...Beef 13:57 That Salad seems well made to me too. Anyways you give us such content that feels so personal [Sorry if my wording is weird,English wasn't one of my first languages :( ] that we feel we are sitting right where you are sitting at,as if we're experiencing what we're experiencing and that's what makes your content unique. And fun fact I've never flew international before.
Thank you for taking us on a virtual journey. Many of us are now officially on a no-fly list in Canada for refusing the jabberjab and are limited to virtual trips. I think the runway name would translate to rumble way (Polterbahn in German).
My pleasure Mike. Many more virtual tours are available! The runway is still called Polder, as in the Dutch Polders (land reclaimed from water). Thanks for watching, hope you get to travel soon!
Fantastic review of this KLM 787 flight. I really love how detailed your review are and you share a lot of knowledge about the aviation world, plane, etc. btw do you happen to know the names of these two friendly pilots? The engine sound was so loud. I can't heard their names even though they said it in the video. Keep up the work! Btw since you are a aviation enthusiast, do you collect plane models?
Ah yes, this video was indeed in the middle of all the paranoia. Since then I’ve taken plenty of flights with the magazines on board. My favorite airline magazine! Hope to fly with KLM soon (and I will, it seems they coming to DWC mid November so I want to try that!)
@@TheLayoverAviation Hi there, that’s true! Due to FIFA World Cup they will have a temporary service to DOH via DWC or DWC via DOH, I’m not totally sure but what I know is that they will serve a temporary DWC route. Kind regards a KLM flight attendant :)
Curious, are these business trips? I used to do international flights every week before the pandemic but now there is no company office or customers to visit... It's very interesting to see you on quite a few international flights!
It’s a wide mix of travel purposes. The only time I rest is when I get to sleep. Have a very international family on my side, same on my wife’s side, have my own job that requires weekly travel, have my side job that requires travel, have my hobby which requires travel. So I’m actually lucky cause to fly was all I wanted since a child😛
Thanks for your report. Very good vidéo and very good Feedback. Good flight for the future 👍👍 There is a website that explains for spooter in Amsterdam ? Different squares, view ... Thanks Plane Travel
Thank you very much for watching and the comment. The official Schiphol Airport website actually has some info: www.schiphol.nl/en/you-and-schiphol/page/planespotting/ I guess that a more thorough Google search may reveal additional recommendations. Definately worth going!
I flew KLM last week on economy it was a nice trip! But can u tell me what is economy comfort? I haven't gotten a chance to ride 787 dreamliner but hopefully one day...anyway nice tripreport! Haven't got time to watch the full video but I will watch it soon when I get time it's so relaxing to watch this videos!
Hey Joel! So it’s basically the same product as Economy class however with the much more extra legroom. The fact that it cost some more $ means that less people may buy it, that’s how I ended up with some extra seats for myself while the rest of economy was full. Thanks a lot for your comment; it means a lot to me 😄
With regards to @5:19 the slides on door 3 of a 777-300 cannot be used as rafts as it falls on the trailing edge of the wing. In case of land evacuation, door 3 is opened in armed mode and pax have to step on the wing, follow the arrows and slide. In case of ditching the mode is shifted to disarmed and can only be used as a secondary exit if one or more of the primary exits fail. Similarly for B747 the upper deck slides cannot be detached from the fuselage and can only be used during land evacuation.
Yes, you are completely right. Doors 3 on the B777-300 have fuselage integrated slides. probably the same on the B747. There likely are some more odd ones out there. Quite a lot of info from you, thanks! Dit not know the upperdeck 747 slides could not be detached.
@@TheLayoverAviation no worries! All this info comes from my experience as a flight attendant. I had a privilege to work on all the B747s, B777s, B787-8 and the long retired A310. Cheers!!
I am moving from Malaysia to Netherlands and also booked upgraded from economy to economy comfort by paying 120 euros extra. I hope worth the money and 13 hours can be easier thab as compared to a regular economy flight
I will be flying by KLM hopefully next week heading to Seoul,. So excited to experience their service. I had fly to different airlines too going Dubai, Frankfurt, and some in Asia, so I'm adding this to my list. The difference now is kinda upsetting because we have to be very precautious inside the plane, we don't want to be infected with the virus before we reach our destinations and do more quarantine. Just a question pls, how was the seating arrangements they giving? Are there a lot of space as compared to before?.
I can’t wait to go to Seoul! Amsterdam is a nice choice to travel between. The most important thing though is not to worry and please travel stress free. I’ve taken far too many flights during covid and I’ve been safe and fine. If you worry you won’t be able to enjoy. So, all airlines in the world now sell all seats; it’s perfectly possible for you to have neighboors. It depends how full the flight is. Ask at check in if it’s possible to be alone. All the best and have fun!
@@TheLayoverAviation sir I will be flying with KLM next month...I am.first time flyer...give me tips...i m afraid nervous..anxious ...is their possibility of motion sickness dizziness ear pain due to noise etc in international flights as they are in domestic ones.. Since I have seen that u know alot about planes...kindly clear my doubts...I will really appreciate
One thing I realised during Covid, at almost every airline, is how crew don’t take their jobs for granted anymore. People seem to be making the most of it. I’ve spoken to many that told me how sad they were when they lost their wings for over a year. Met some people who were on their first flights back and man were they happy. So yes, something has changed in most places.
5:45 it will not be around anymore for a longer time. 747s have been retired so only 777s remained with that livery. They will also be retired and flying to China is possible again if you also fly to Taipeh.
When I fly I made it tradition to wear my Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 in blue. I smack and knock my hand in so many places and aisles on planes and this watch can take any beating! The screen never scratches.
@@TheLayoverAviation awesome thank you - also please do some trip reports to India we are close to DXB with many many flights options to many many cities
I will Ajay, it’s all being planned! India just opened up and now there is a travel crazy with everyone going. I’ll wait for it to calm down and prices to lower. Likely in May!
My home town I am looking at flights to Toronto this from Birmingham for the summer I don't want to head to London since I live in the Midlands, the flight from KLM is from Birmingham to Amsterdam then Amsterdam direct to Toronto, looks like a decent flight,
Hey Alton! So this video is surprisingly enough shot with an Iphone Xs max. It shoots great. Now I’m currently using the Iphone 13 max pro for the newest video’s. It’s just easier and more compact to use a phone for me as it’s mobile. I tried with a professional camera but it just takes too long! For editor I use VN editor (free) for Ipad Pro. I’m transitioning soon to Adobe (payware) as I keep wanting to improve quality. Thanks for watching!
On this particular trip? How to you mean, before going or which countries I overflew? I would not be able to say which ones I visited before, I travel far too much. If you mean going there, only the UK and Ireland, then straight to Canada. Thanks for watching!
I’m flying to Sarajevo soon, just don’t know if with flydubai as the experience will be the same as Zagreb. I might fly a different Middle Eastern airline.
To me it looks pretty much like the old days.. Don’t notice any cuts besides no liquors or spirits being served. I don’t know if that was the case before..
I’ll keep that in mind Sandy! I did fly with them from Amsterdam to Washington but that was all the way back in 2008 I think.. Can’t remember the meal.
