TRIP REPORT - United Airlines (737-900, ERJ-145), Ixtapa to St Louis

Time for another trip report! I've found these to be extremely enjoyable to make. This time, you get to experience my trip home from our annual family vacation in Ixtapa, Mexico to St. Louis, MO. It includes all the steps involved with the trip, including cab rides, airport tours, flight footage, and more. I also got to experience my first-ever Boeing 737-900. It's a beautiful aircraft, and it was *MUCH* more comfortable than the 737-800 I had coming down to Ixtapa. The Sky interior was really neat, and the seats United had on it were much better. Then, I got the obligatory ERJ-145 ride from Houston up to St. Louis on Expressjet. United uses a ton of them in and out of St. Louis (and everywhere else), so being a frequent United flier means that I've gotten my fair share of rides on this little aircraft. I like it more than most people do. The single seat on the "A" side and the large windows really make for a pleasant experience in my opinion, though it does start getting a little claustrophobic around the 2-hour mark.
This is the second time I've filmed this route (hence the "2" in the video title). It's the 3rd time if you count my trip report in the other direction. Since my family has a tradition of doing a trip down to Ixtapa every winter, I've done this route many times on many different airlines. However, as with most of my travel, I do it most frequently on United (via Houston). Check the bottom of the description for links to the previous trip reports.

Great report as always. The juxtaposition of the A380 and ERJ was something I have never seen before. Really awesome and probably very rare.

Air travel is a lot safer than it was in the late 90's and early 2000's. Believe it or not, it is a lot safer than road travel, and yes, rail travel.

They really did a beautiful job--especially with the historic domed part. They actually just finished replacing the copper roof, so the outside looks pretty amazing, too.

Despite the rain, great shooting!! I hate those ERJ's though. The -135 & -145's specifically! I liked them when I was younger, but that's because I was shorter and didn't feel so cramped in that cabin. Haha! Great video man & keep them coming!! =D

They didn't build Terminal B without jetways. Houston Airports just had to add them later because the construction caused enough inconvenience already so they wanted to hurry up and get it operating.

Greetings! I hope you enjoyed Ixtapa! It is a nice place. I always have fun every time I go there. I was born there and I still love going to Ixtapa and visit friends and relatives. You should travel to Cancun! You gonna love it! :)

Yeah United has close to 300 fifty seaters. And what's surprising is that MSN-ORD (only about 100 miles) on United is starting to get mainline service!

STL only has mainline service to SFO (and occasionally EWR) on United. STL-ORD is a particularly crazy route. During the summer, United has about 15 Express flights per day (mostly ERJs and CRJ-700s). Between their schedule and American's, there's an RJ flight to O'Hare pretty much every half hour or so :)

Jacob, while I agree with that the video is United propaganda, my last few flights with united were very good in terms of cabin service . I feel that they are consciously trying to improve their overall company image.

Geez, I thought they were going to play the ads during takeoff, and I though US Airways was bad with the credit card peddling! Boarding at IAH looks interesting, I know United has the different lanes you line up and board with, will be interesting to see if I ever book a flight with them.

The ads/promos are really annoying. Seems like a cheesy move that an ultra-low-cost carrier like Spirit would do. United's boarding process is reasonably efficient, though it seems like 90% of the plane is either in group 1 or 3 most of the time.

27:11 about your comment, well maybe they don't have jetways as we know them, since planes like the ERJ are pretty small and not too tall...if it was a 777 I would be complaining trust me! but hey! t at least you had a covered boarding ramp ona rainy day! :)

I'm pretty sure they modeled that new area of the terminal off of the regional jet gates at Dulles. The two designs are very similar (though Houston's is MILES ahead of the situation at Dulles). Works well enough for small planes, and it's certainly better than the old setup they had.
