Trip to Cinque Terre & Grand Hotel Portovenere (Italian Riviera): amazing scenery!

We are delighted to know you enjoyed the views from our historical building, where we have rooms and suites of different sizes and where we tried our best - even with renovations - to preserve the character of the property, which was a convent in the 1600s as you explained. Thanks for also sharing some highlights of the 5-course menu at Palmaria Restaurant and the inspiration behind its cuisine. Surely the hike was a bit challenging, but we know it's totally worth it :) and luckily all villages can be reached by train, and most by boat. When you return, we suggest an alternative hiking trail along the Gulf of Poets, loved by writers like Shelley and Lord Byron. Awww, first time I've almost cried watching this video. My auntie has a beautiful house in Monterosso, she sold the house in Rome and bought the house there, almost 25 yrs ago. I go there often, her grandson has 2 speedboats, otherwise you can't move when you want. It's even more beautiful in spring, or late autumn, when tourists are gone. 😊 Next time try to rent an apartment in any of the villages, or even the house, much nicer than being in a hotel. 👌🤗 I hope to go there in one month time, deoends on Covid, but if not, spring definitely. When I go there I stay there for1, even 2 months if I can. 💕 Thank you for bringing the most loving place on the earth to my eyes 🙏❤️

We have been to the Cinque Terra twice. Both trips have been spectacular. Come hungry as the seafood is some of the best. It’s not real easy to get there but well worth the effort.

Have been to Italia three times in my life and is also the most travelled European Country I have been to. I do not think anyone can say a negative thing about this beautiful country, culture or it’s citizens. A truly wonderful place to travel to. My last visit (1995) was a 30 day adventure (guided tour) through Europe and naturally Italia was the highlight! Two special hotels were the Excelsior on the Lido in Venice and the Excelsior at the Spanish steps in Roma (a little attitude there). None the less a wonderful and fun loving country all onto it’s own! You always give US the finest. Kudos to you ‘THE’ Luxury Travel Expert! ❤️

Italy and it's stairs and heights and rugged terrain is not for the fainthearted haha. I moved here from the US about ten years ago and I live not far from the Cinque Terre. There is a sweet town with a port in the same bay as Portovenere called Lerici. That same boat that takes you to the Cinque Terre starts in the port of Lerici. Also the town of Portovenere is built into the hills and so the stairs from the port up to the streets are steep, but the upper streets are quaint and worth the time to experience them. The very old church with the striped marble that's located on the promentory of the bay (Church of Peter the Apostle 1198) was built where an early 5th century Christian church existed, and before that it is said, a temple to Venus once stood there. Hence the name Porto (port) Venere (of venus), Port of Venus. Luxury Travel Expert - Thank you for this excellent video. Buon viaggio.

Oh my ... this brings back memories. Grabbed a couple ofsleeping bags and slept out on the rocks of Lake Superior. It was under the August full moon and the waters were calm. After lightning a small campfire, we were lulled to sleep to the sound of the gentle waves... Best sleep I've ever had!! Rock can be surprisingly comfortable sometimes! They were still warm from the sun, too. This hike seems quite a challenge! You did very well still keeping a steady hand!! This hotel has a lovely lobby and love the terrace dining. But, they could turn up the luxury notch a bit more... like flowers in the room and a welcome bowl of fruit or a nice bottle of local wine... Again, thank you for taking us with you, dear LTE! Much continued success!

This video brings back very good memories of my hike in the Cinque Terre. We stayed in Genoa because we wanted more dining options and hotel choices, then caught the train down to Monterroso for the hike and next day visit Portofino. You did the South to North hike and we did the reverse, North to South. I bet you remember very well climbing down the steep path at Monterroso, try climbing up it. Thanks for another excellent video and bringing back some beautiful memories of the Cinque Terre.

I'm loving the Italian Hotels of the last few weeks. Very much part of my 'back yard', so to speak. If you ever get the chance, you should have a stay at the Chèvre d'or in Eze, France. It's a charming little high end boutique hotel in the most jaw dropping location I have ever seen.

OMG, Dr. LTE--it looks like the entire population of Italy is enjoying the Cinque Terre--lol. I'd love to visit but during the off-season. After 6 months of avoiding crowds, I'd be freaking out with all those people around. Your hotel room was small but cute. Chocolate amenity was nice, but where was the bottle of red wine? --I mean, you're in Italy! Glad to see the return of eggs bene. Well, I'm exhausted from all the hikes you went on so I will sleep well tonight :)

While technically a 4-star, the Hotel Porto Roca in Monterosso offers a 5-star experience from all sea view rooms, and from the infinity pool - and its garden is actually part of the most scenic trail in Cinque Terre. It also lets you experience Cinque Terre after hours, when all the daytrippers leave around sunset and only residents of the very few hotels and rentals enjoy the 5 villages without the crowds.

If that's what the crowds are like with all the current restrictions, I can't imagine how busy it gets when tourism is in full swing.

Great video! The best things about the hotel are clearly it’s location and the views! Nice overview of Cinque Terre excursion. I’ve decided to definitely take the ferry boat up to the villages instead of the train. Looks much more comfortable and picturesque! Cinque Terre will be one of my first destinations post-pandemic! And it can’t get here soon enough!

This whole travel ban has caused depression for people like me, who was supposed to be in Italy last month but can't travel due to border restrictions. I'm confused because you are there. Please give us insight to the reality of travel to Italy. I would go tomorrow if I could..... Thank you.
