Have had the great pleasure of visiting Oulu. And Helsinki. And a wonderful farm in the countryside about 1 hour outside Helsinki for a mid-August crawfish feast (and the 2nd worst hangover of my life - the 1st worst was after a ladies' sauna and salmon feast on an island near Oulu. Both hangovers were WELL worth the effort and pain). Loved Finland and the Finns are warm, funny and welcoming. Long may they prosper!
I have been working in different parts of Norway for the last 15 years and answered Norwegians' questions about what Finland is like. there is often a prejudice in the questions that Finland is a poor country. Now I ask reciprocally, did that Finnish feel poor and poorly functioning? by the way, that's the river where you swim in the power plant dam basin.
Finland has been ranked the best country by the World economic Forum conference in Switzerland Davos in 2019 and the happiest country seven times in a row in 2018-2024 by the World happiness index report and UN. One of the reasons is prosperity and the high standard of living. It is weird how little our neighboring countries know about Finland.
