I really got a lot out of this. Thank you! Would love a deep dive on how you get your domed polished pins done without ruining the wood like I do!
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 месяца назад
These aren’t actually domed over. They are just spun in a drill and the tops are rounded over and polished and then epoxied in place. If you really want dome a pin, take a piece of thin brass or copper and drill a hole in it the size of your desired pin after doming and place it over the pin and start striking your pin. The thin brass/copper protects your wood. Hope that makes sense. Thanks for watching.

I’m still a beginner, but a lot of your steps here can be applied to my projects. I have always considered Bowie knives to be over the top blingy. Not so with this one. With the subtle matte finish, it looks more like a blade I’d carry. Beautiful as always!
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 месяца назад
They can be blingy, but also simple yet elegant. I like both. 😜. Thanks for watching

Frustrating to get the handle close and find voids, but obviously you saved it. Clearly buying stabilized wood from the right source is important.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 месяца назад
Yeah, it happens on occasion. Particularly with buckeye burls. IRS not that uncommon to have to fill some with CA glue so great to have it on hand. Thanks for watching, Bryson.

Great job. Thanks for sharing. Question: the size of the pin used for the handle looks smaller than the hole in the tang. Am I missing something ?
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 месяца назад
It’s an illusion. The hole is 1/16”, which is what the pin is. 😉. Thanks for watching.
@pr0faker

Its more about not the best wood, stabilising resin doesn't really fill up such big holes, its always a bit of a risk with that kind of woodburl. It does give a handle some character imho when you do fix it with glue. in this case its a very dark handle so the black glue works fine with that.
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 месяца назад
Well, a good stabilization can certainly reduce voids like this. When I get wood from Oleg at knife-wood.com, I never get voids like this. Thanks for watching.

Very nice knife! Is that a large divot out of the wood below the pin on the left side of the handle?
@TyrellKnifeworks
@TyrellKnifeworks 2 месяца назад
Well it was, but it was filled with CA glue in the video. It’s totally smooth now. Thanks for watching
