Me too! In 2018 we flew this route when we went to australia, so it must've been a brand new plane. In 2 months we're on this same route again to guangzhou, but they're using an a350 on it now.
For economy the food looks very nice indeed. Altogether looks like you had a great flight. Thos leftovers looked nice, cant beat a good bit of mashed potato. Breakfast looked very nice too. Thanks for sharing David. Liked.
Great Report!! China Southern seems an amazing carrier to fly with. I love the take off and landings in Schiphol, to see all that water around, it's impressive! Kind Regards mr. David! And keep doing like that! :)
Wowww, I personally have been with simply aviation since this chanel started (though I cant remember the first video :) ) I have seen this channel Rise and Fall and Rise again to be popular. So far ( Aside from Sam Chui ) This channel will be the best of all. TYSM David!
I need to do a long flight to NZ in the near future. Have never flown with China Southern. It all looks pretty good. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Love your video. I am flying from London to Adelaide through Guangzhou in september. I was a bit apprehensive, I've never been so far in my life, only Europe. But now it looks so easy. Thank you
Been to Guangzhou. The passport control was conducted in a hanger and we were herded into departures by guards. The departures had no TV and only one snack bar open. Never again.
Well everything was fine, the airport was pleasant and all the shops and cafes were opened. I had five hours to wait until my next flight but the time went fast. Cant wait to go there again on my way back but this time i am staying in a hotel as i have 15 hours to wait for my London flight. A great experience! Oh and the passport control was fine, no problem at all.
What a fantastic video and must say they looked an impressive airline . The plane was beautiful even though only a few months old . Cheers subscribed now 👍
The distance as shown on the map is at odds with the same flight on flightradar24 - they show the distance as about 5000nmi (about 5800 miles), yet the map showed over 11,000 miles. Strange 🤔
What a nice video!! China southern airlines is one of my favorite airlines!! You guys have worked really hard, I know! How can you use Instagram in China?
I'm not sure if David could answer this question - I've heard a lot of horror stories about having a stopover in an airport in China. The problems would cause travellers to miss their connections. I'm wondering if those stories are true. At this moment, I've seen a lot of cheaper tickets from China Southern or China Eastern to fly from North America to Southeast Asia. I'm bit hesitant in buying a stopover in China because of these stories.
Dear angechrissy, Yes, if you book with a Chinese airline (Ex. Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, etc.) you could find some amazing low cost deals. However, let the buyer beware. You get what you pay for. You could have a low airfare, but there may be negative things as a result. Some things could be: Cramped seats, delayed flights, long layovers, exiting the airplane onto the tarmac in the winter and waiting for a bus to take you to the gate, mysteriously cancelled connections, poor customer service as a result of a cancelled flight. I have learned my lesson the hard way and I will choose a better quality airline, such as Cathay Pacific or EVA Airways. Do your research and good luck in your decision.
I took my share of connections through China. The airports of the last 15 years or so are very easy to navigate. The biggest 'problem' I encountered was on my way back from BKK to AMS, which was supposed to transer through CAN ánd PEK (it was a very cheap fare). On my way to the airport (BKK) I got an e-mail that CAN-PEK was cancelled, but there was no solution offered, nothing. When checking in at BKK the attendent even asked "why did you cancel CAN-PEK?" . Of couse I told them i didn't, but THEY did. After politely asking for a solution, they eventually asked if i would object to fly to AMS directly :D. And then they put me on a direct KLM flight (also Skyteam, for now) with extra legroom. Moral of this story: If something happens with the scheduling of your connecting flights, be polite but assertive (saving face for everyone) and they will sort it out. In the end I was home in AMS 12 hours earlier then planned.
It is not advertised, but China Southern provides free hotels for overnight connections. I did not know that and booked one of those cheap hotels claiming to be in the airport in advance but in fact was run by some private individual located in some small village quite a distance from it (after booking it and checking the address on google maps). Luckily I spoke to a ground staff before I went, and was told I should have a free hotel room arranged by CZ. Went to the desk and was given a choice of 3 and 4 star hotels, with airport shuttle buses. I choose a 3 star hotel that was the closest to the airport, for an early morning connection, and it was decent. All transport to and from there are arranged by CZ (and apparently they will compensate you if you somehow ended up missing the flight due to say traffic, if you use their service), and breakfast is also included. Needless to say, I lost a small amount of money cancelling the hotel I original booked. If you use their free hotels for the connection, then everything should be taken care of, and it is very comfortable and hassle free. HOWEVER, strangely they DO NOT advertise the service! I would have never found out if not for me asking one of the ground staff for directions. May be they want to cut down the numbers or what, but now that you know you should always ask!
We flew China southern in 2018, from Amsterdam-Guangzhou-Melbourne and back. This year we flew them from Amsterdam-Guangzhou-Kualalumpur I have to say, after 5 years they are still one of the best airlines for the price, I will always fly them if they are an option. I mean, hot towels in economy?
I flew on them when they still had the los angless to shenyang route, it felt like a typical airline but before decent they have a thankyou speech from the crew witch i have never seen from any other airlines ive flown on
When my dad was in China on buisness about 10 years ago he met the General Manager of relations (or something) of China Southern.. and got Free first class ticket on his way home xD
Thank you for reviewing China Southern! I fly from New York to Guangzhou on the B777-300ER regularly to visit family and I love seeing a positive review from a Western person! Many people have negative views of China Southern, but I believe your review was honest and nice! Thank you for your videos, I can’t wait to see more! 😄❤️
Last year I flew from Nairobi to changsha on a pratt powered A330-200, I had low expectations but they were exceeded! There was plenty of food (like two hot meals) and the flight attendants were friendly and attentive, passing through the cabin often, conducting snack and beverage services between meals, the IFE was fairly extensive with lots of movies and music, too many for an 11 hour flight 😁, and the plane itself (A330-200) was comfortable, especially the configuration 2-4-2👌🏽 all in all I enjoyed my experience with China Southern, I was positively surprised.
For years I have been watching trip reports on YT & airline reviews and I've decided, your reviews are the best. You simply highlight the exact moments of interest for me, and I find myself not skipping anything you put out in the videos. Thanks and happy flying!!
Simply Aviation is best aviation/trip report channel on RU-vid. Keep up the good work. Also congrats on passing 210,000 subscribers. Can't wait till that number reaches 1 million!!!
Superb. Absolutely superb. As someone who is at university studying a broadcast journalism course, and as someone who loves flying, this is aspirational. This is how I want to make videos. You guys are possibly the best in the game on RU-vid - a real pleasure to watch. Hopefully I can one day produce something as complete and well-polished as you guys!
Thanks so much for another great trip report! It was a great reminder for me. You enjoyed CZ and they are a rather good airline. Friendly FAs (if you don't command them as Chinese do), nice food, on time,
I was on this flight around 7 years ago and it wasn’t the best. but I’m glad to see that it improved! !My! experience 7 years ago My chair was broken (couldn’t get a new one full flight no biggie) In flight entertainment was also unresponsive (but yet again full flight) The food was ok back then nothing like what I saw in this video(the food was literal mush back then) They did offer a bit extra because the inconvenience that was good. So I’m glad to see that they upgraded and I will definitely be trying them again.
Love the video. I did one on the nyc-guangzhou route but didnt turn out as I liked. I wasnt sure how strict the filming was. But this video brought up good memories. Love the videos!!!!
As a frequent traveler in China and U.S. my ranking for China domestic: Hainan (HNA) > China Southern > ShenZhen > Xiamen > China Eastern > Air China Direct flights between U.S. and China: HNA > Delta > China Southern > American > United > China Eastern > Air China
I would say CZ is the Delta Airlines of China. Not the worst like that of Spring Airlines/Spirit or Frontier, but not the best like that of Hainan/Hawaiian or Jetblue. It’s the best of the big 3 but over all mediocre.
my mother and father will also travel with this flight in coming days. I want to ask how is the wheel chair facility for the old people.. and main thing, will All the paper work and other things go smooth and one by them?? any Suggestions..!! Please let me know because its first time with china airlines Thanks.
I had an unpleasant trip from Amsterdam to Beijing by China southern airlines coz the inflight entertainment system didn’t work. Can u imaging how did we spend 10 hours without any inflight entertainment? That was terrible.
What's ever so exciting about these meals here (?) - they look like any other economy meal everywhere else. Especially the plastic cutlery is terrible.
Thanks for the great trip report. I wonder how you find about the crews attitude? All the while I know China based airlines cabin crew are not friendly towards blogger.
Thanks you so much for simply aviation.. you give me chance to see the aviation world... I cant afford to experience it but i can see through you video... Tq so much...
My experience was bad, I was flying to Delhi in the same aircraft. I hate a330s. Had a freakin engine problem, my flight got 6 hours late. I prefer Cathay Pacfic.
