Meridiana is one of the last MD-80 operators in Europe. But not for long! As I think they are being replaced by Air Italy/Meridiana's order for 20 Boeing 737-8 MAX's (They are also Italy's launch customer for the type)
I miss those planes so much. I remember when I used to take the Meridiana maddogs from LIN to CTA during my Christmas vacations. They made my childhood and if I'm now an aviation enthusiast It's all thanks to these magical aircrafts.
Thanks for including a DC-9 family member in your flight review. The initial take-off climb rate is quite spectacular, isn't it? Whether a passenger or watching from the ground I'm always amazed. Part of the reason there are 30+ year-old DCs and MDs still flying is that they were built to last.

The MD-80 have just 9 accidents in their hole life, taking into account it is a quite old plane is a really good number. So i reccomend you to look up thinks on the internet before saying anything
Let‘s hope this doesn‘t end like Etihad‘s European adventures with Alitalia and Air Berlin... but I am confident Al Baker from Qatar Airways has a good plan.

Very enjoyable to watch review of a relatively short flight. The decision to rebrand the airline to Air Italy is very ambitious. Qatar Airways is also planning to expand the fleet from 11 to 50 aircraft.

Schön dass es dir das Video gefallen hat. Habe da absolut keine bedenken, die Flugzeuge in Europa müssen gewissen Sicherheitsstandards entsprechen (welche sehr hoch sind) und daher äußerst sicher auch wenn das Flugzeug über 30 Jahre alt ist.
Great video, I'm sad that we won't see any MD-80s in Italy anymore after so many years... The only chance we still have to fly them are basically Volotea's 717s
I took a Volotea 717 a couple of years ago on the ZTH - VCE route as I immediately felt the super 80 vibes.. I know it'll never be the same thing but I guess I'm gonna settle with that

Ein 31-jähriges Flugzeug... Solche alte Damen hatte ich in VCE gesehen, die waren kleiner als A320, stellt mal vor wenn man damit severe turbulence trifft... hihi Und als ob sie noch so alte Flugzeuge betreiben, die Pflegekosten sind doch viel mehr geworden und die sind viel unsicherer
Was für ein cooles Flugzeug... Eine MD 80 war mein erstes Bild in DUS, als ich mit dem Flugzeuge fotografieren anfing. Ich glaube von SAS. Hab gerade mal geschaut, als erster Besitzer wurde für die I-SMET die Airline Alisarda genannt. War das der Vorgänger von Meridiana? Ansonsten ein sehr schöner kurzer Hüpfer.
