That was no baby. It WAS a 52 year old Karen. Complaining that her seat didn't recline enough, that the person in front reclined too much, that the meal was too slow, that the weather wasn't good enough and that she wanted to talk to the captain RIGHT NOW.
I agree that the blood curdling, ear piercing, eardrum damaging screams of the baby added a certain vintage charm to that charming vintage aircraft design....it all works together like a piece of a puzzle!
What perfects the retro style is that they decided to paint it on the 737. The cockpit design closely resembles that of a classic Boeing 707 making it look more nostalgic.
always remember the same situation that happened to me. flew from mel to hobart in 2016, with a 2 year old sitting next to me... he cried so loud and puked all over the place (and on my clothes xd). just cute babies afterall:) got nothing to complain about
In Economy, the Shrieking Baby IFE is provided at no extra cost. ;-) Bring your own noise-canceling headphones. I feel for the parent, who must be very embarrassed, and I applaud the understanding passengers who do not complain.
It's aviation law, Qantas would have to pay a big fine if there wasn't a screaming child and children should always be let loose in the aisle to make sure the crew don't have it too easy 😊
it is an extremely efficient software program developed by the Australian CIA in conjunction with the UK's Scotland Yard that somehow is able to, with great tact and sophistication, distribute a screaming baby to each airplane... it's a marvel of modern technology!
Just remember, the noise from screaming kids carries through the whole plane. If you paid extra for business class on this plane, you still have to listen to all that... making the experience one to be endured rather than enjoyed.
For some reason, I never thought it would take that long to fly across Australia! Nevewer realized how big that country actually is! That flight time is approximately equal to a flight here in Canada between YYZ and YVR! With that screaming kid at the beginning, I was thinking you may have had second thoughts about taking that earlier flight! Lol!!
Just shows how massive Oz really is. When I was there in 2009, I had a 3-hour flight from Brisbane to Cairns (within the same state, of Queensland) and a coach tour a few days later from Alice Springs to Uluru (aka Ayer's Rock) in Northern Territory. They might look relatively close on a map but it took more than 6 hours to get there! 😮
A retro flight on a legacy carrier is really something amazing. Legacy carriers are able to have a retro offering quite well compared to newer airlines. Newer airlines have to make-up a retro livery. Have you tried flying with Scottish airline Loganair? I would love to see a tripreport on them!
A great video. I live in Perth and have flown this sector many, many times in both directions, not only with QF but also with VA and, back in the good old days, Ansett Airlines (RIP). The video portrays the experience very well. It's always more comfortable in a wide body, and in the past they've included 767s and 747s. Even now, QF operates a lot of these flights with 332s. But the 738s are also okay. QF has slightly better catering than VA, but VA is consistently less expensive and otherwise very similar. And the daylight flights with minimal cloud cover are very scenic, as your video demonstrates. I can also highly recommend the ground-level trip by car or train, BTW.
40 years ago I had a screaming baby. Not that I ever tried to take it on a plane. But in keeping with the retro theme it reminded me of all those sleepless nights. Now I can remember why we limited our family to just two children. There WAS a reason after all.
Just one suggestion guys. Please add some bg music when a child is crying onboard. It's pretty much annoying to hear those screams while watching the video. Cheers
I flew from Brisbane to Dubai on Emirates, a 14 hour flight, and as soon as we got airborne, there was a kid/baby screaming and crying. The parents seemingly did nothing to quiet it down. Thank God for noise canceling headphones
Thank you Felix for bringing me not that far memories! Sydney is the farest city I've ever been to and I was flying the same flight as you QF649 but in November last year. Maybe my plane does not have uniqe livery as yours and was over 1 hour delayed but I had IFE on my 737 :) While my flight from Singapore to Sydney on Qantas A380 was bad and They wanted freeze me to death, flight to Perth was overall nice experience and I enjoyed free messaging via WiFi! My greetings to all Aussies, you are such a nice people!
What I liked about Qantas during Covid: They handed out new medicinal masks after 2h flight time, as it was recommended to wear a mask only 2h continuously. Very nice service.
I like Qantas but for domestic flights you are paying always 2 or 3 more times than with the other airlines, Rex is the best option if you need to check a bag, Jetstar the best option if you are traveling light
I imagine you know that Qantas will be replacing all their 737's and 717's with Airbus A321's and A220's. Due to start taking delivery later this year. The other major carrier, Virgin Australia, are due to start receiving their new 737 Max's starting June.
I've got two kids and have flown with them several times and been really lucky. They're both very placid and have (with one exception) never cried when flying and we're strict about them behaving themselves. BUT just once we had a nightmare. For the last 25 minutes of a flight as we were descending and landing my daughter who was fourteen months started wailing. She was inconsolable and nothing that usually worked to sooth her worked. When we landed the crew let us off first!!! We were SO embarrassed. However, what meant the absolute world to us was that the people around us were really nice. Some offered to help and when we were getting off we got so many sympathetic smiles. The moral of this story is (although I know you can get some real dickhead parents who don't even try) most of the time when babies cry it's because they're in distress and they're only babies so it's the only way they know how to communicate. The parents are probably having nervous breakdowns. So just be nice. Be the adults.
Got a son myself. Me and my wife were super worried when he flew long haul for the first time as a 6-months old baby. Apart for a short cry when we take-off and landing (most likely due to the pressure difference), thankfully, he behaves very well. The fellow passengers were really nice and we didn't hear any annoyed sigh or any sign of complaints from them. However, on the short-haul flight before it, although my son behaves more or less the same as on the long-haul flight, some people around where we were sitting complained to us. Me and my wife, on both flights, tried our best to pacify our son, and to be honest, quite worried to the point of prepared a bag of snacks with a 'sorry note'. On this topic, I think that most, if not all, parents are trying their best for their child to not become a disturbance. Thus, I was quite surprised that several comments on this video showing a low level of tolerance towards the wailing kid. Please, be nice to them, they are probably are panicking themselves.
@@zulfikaradlannadzir5938 Exactly. When you have a tiny child clearly in some kind of distress and you're a grown adult but you have no sympathy or care because the only thing you care about is yourself - you're actually not fit to stand in judgement of others. I bet if it was a whimpering puppy disturbing the peace they'd all be wanting to take turns to comfort it. I'll actually never forget that video of a guy who, instead of going 'oh, poor me', volunteered to help a mother by taking her crying toddler for a walk up and down the plane. That's a real man.
Personally, I understand when babies cry, and I understand when people get annoyed when a baby cries on a plane. But, one thing I can commend you on is that you at least tried to calm your daughter. And luckily it was the last 25 minutes.
My very first plane ride was with no Tech just the radio on the a rest. It was 2009 with I flew my first plane with the IFE. In fact in the early 2000s flew over seas with parents many times with IFE. It’s nice to know that there are planes with no IFE still out there.
My very first flight was in 1955 in an NAC DC3 between Wellington and Auckland. From what I remember seats were provided! The plane was most probably a converted ww2 transport.
@@Parallex001 Pharmacies usually sell medicines for babies that make them sleep when flying, that are not usually dangerous for the most of them. Its not that i dont like them (sadly i dont). But i dare you to withstand a crying baby for a hole flight and not being annoyed. Not everyone has the ability to deal in a good way with those earraping noises
I don’t think I’d be able to cope with a screaming baby on a flight. I have this thing where Noise that I have no control over, causes me immense amounts of stress and I don’t know why 😅 Like if I’m talking and someone interrupts me, or another example if someone near me is saying the same thing over and over while i’m trying to talk to someone, i get unnecessarily angry inside 😂 A screaming baby on a flying metal pencil would result in my brain exploding
I fly Qantas all the time Im a dual resient of Sydney and Melbourne so I fly each month all year round. But I want to fly to Perth this year so thanks for the video.
GOod footage, but couldn't watch it all because of the kids screaming the whole time non stop. Sorry it is not your fault at all. I will watch your other videos
This aircraft is, due to retro livery, Retro Roo (second word is a common abbreviation of "Kangaroo", a national animal of Australia) II. I think, that LOT Polish Airlines should temporarily repaint one of it's aircrafts for 3rd European Games.
If it wasn’t because Qantas originally mainly served Queensland and the Northern Territories, i think it would be named something like Australia Airways or Air Australia.
I remember a few years ago, i read a news story about passengers on an Iceland Air flight had to endure a toddler’s screaming and temper tantrum for the whole 8-hour flight. I bet they couldn’t wait to get off that plane…
I did a poll two months ago, where out of 3,000 people, 71% said they preferred our videos with subtitles. You can easily avoid them as substitles=blue text in thumbnail and voice-over=red text in thumbnail. The problem with voice-over videos is, that they are considerably more work. It's just impossible for me to do this with every video, so for shorter flights, subtitled videos will remain.
@@simply_aviation oh wow, appreciate the reply :D. Yea i did suspect the voiceovers are massively resource intensive. Still love your videos, and thank you for the tip on figuring out which are with voiceovers and subs.
Nice video. 👍 I have to say I found the screaming child quite triggering … I was on a long distance train last week near an overtired child who had an equally piercing scream … I figured the child must fall asleep sooner or later so didn’t change seats. I was wrong. 😝🤦♂️
Qantas cops a lot of flak by the Australian media for issues like delayed flights, lost bags etc, but it is still one of the best airlines in the world imo.
Ah! The mandatory screamer, who could fly without one! Juast knew it was coming along with us as you walked to the departure gate. LOL! Kudos for the parent/s not committing infanticide! Honestly, I prefer the modern setup, not retro! Good info though.
14:30 I've flown Melbourne to perth twice on the A330 in the last year and both times they handed our chocolates similar to the one shown there, haven't had it arriving anywhere else though.
During the same month on the same year i flew from Melbourne to Adelaide as i was getting back home after a nice holiday in Vietnam, and on the flight from VIC to SA the crew handed out sandwiches and chocolates which is really nice. but when flying to and from Vietnam i was on Vietnamese airline planes
Damn, that is way more then any us airline. I flew DFW-SJU (which is right about 5 hours of flight time) on A321s and 737s and always only got a single pack of cookies and maybe a drink of choice throughout the flight.
The baby screaming before you even board shows we have a quality product in Australia 🇦🇺 a good chance to test the prayer 🙏 room otherwise it might 2 rows from you all the way to Perth 😮 I love the Qantas retro livery At 5:02 it sounds like you didn't pray hard enough 😂
