A shiver goes up my spine everytime I hear this song - and I challenge anyone to say there isn't a song out there somewhere that doesn't throw you back to a certain time or someone.
No artist or song nails the sentiment of a song taking you back to relive those treasured moments in time. Music is how we mark our lives. Thank you Trisha for summing it up so beautifully.
Actually, it was Hugh Prestwood who should be thanked "for summing it up" when he wrote the song. I can't think of anyone else who could have sung it any more beautifully than Trisha Yearwood did, but without songwriters, singers wouldn't even have the tune to hum, let alone the words to sing. (I am so glad H.P. got T.Y. to sing this one.)
I fell in love with this song the very 1st time I heard it- it hit me right in my feelings that I hadn't thought of in a very long time. I've now been happily married for 30yrs, but there's always, for most of us, we have a someone that was the one who got away. This song brings him back to my memory & my heart, regardless of how much I adore my hubby. I think its one of the ALL-TIME BEST written country songs- and it had to be written for Trisha to sing, bc her voice just blows these memories up even bigger. Cannot imagine ANYONE EVER singing it as well as Trisha, let alone even as well as she sang it. I don't think 90s radio ever gave it the justice it deserved. Its just one of those one in a million songs, and she's def one of those one in a million singers with the powerful emotions & vocals she adds to this song. If anyone else sang it- I don't think any of us who love it, woukd feel the same about it if it hadn't been Trisha who recorded it. Not to forget- whoever wrote it- deserves the same mad respect Trisha does. Its just one of my top five faves of the 90s. We do have great music today, with great voices singing- but in my humble opinion- NO SONG will EVER compare to this one. Even all these yrs later- it still has the same affect on us as it did the 1st time we heard, by reading the comments, I see I'm not alone in cherishing this absolute gem of a song. You're one of THE BEST of the 90s Trisha- and wish radio still played your music. especially this one....... goosebumps all over, like its the 1st time all over again. You're simply UH-MAZING!!!! #TrueYearwoodFans ❤
It's been around 20 years since I last heard this song. I couldn't tell you what the lyrics were. I couldn't tell you now what the lyrics are. Yet, as the song opened, I sang aloud with every word. So even if I'd forgotten all about it; The song remembered when.
NO ONE.... and i mean NO ONE can tell a story through a song like Trisha Yearwood... Flawless is an understatement.... No SONG.... and I mean NO SONG has ever been better written to the story of what music does to the soul.... like this one.
Tracy Lynn Walker, "... and I mean NO SONG has ever been better written to the story of what music does to the soul ..." Wow. You must be REALLY old to have been able to listen to every other song ever written. ;-) Try this one, just in case you missed it, and see what you think: That's Why I Write Songs by Jamey Johnson.wmv ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aic4rRBXaFA.html And, by the way, the real story teller for this song is the person who wrote it, Hugh Prestwood (though I believe that Tricia Yearwood sings it better than anyone else ever could): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kv8RTimk-aI.html
Hi there Thanks for your love and support that has brought me this far, it has been a hard time for me going through this but your love and support keeps me going and standing strong in this difficult times. I was married to my husband 15 years when this song came out. It made me realize that every day we had a song. If we heard one driving we would pull over and dance on the side of the road, if there was music we were dancing. we were married for forty two years, and we still danced. We went to a George Strait concert and we got up, went up stairs and we were dancing to my husbands very favorite song. I lost him to cancer but I had the music on in the house all day and night so he could still hear it. and every once in a while I could see his fingers move to the music. I didn't want hospice. We weren't perfect, but we had a lot of make-up songs to fit the bill..
Now I remember why I love listening to this song in a daily basis. The relation that you and your partner had was one of the most rarest in the world nowadays. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for sharing your story.
In my opinion this is one of the greatest songs ever written and sung by one of the greatest voices ever. It has haunted me from the very first time I heard it and is one that evokes raw emotion in me.
Trisha Yearwood brought a level of class to country music that was uncommon at the time, very grown up, elegant, artistic and literate music for adults...one of the finest artists with such a body of work. Great stuff

Hello👋 Shelley. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
The song does remember when, but so does the heart. It's these memories that keep me going, even though he's left this life on earth. I know he waits for me. I fell in love with him at first sight, when I was 16. He asked me to marry him before we even went on our second date, and I told him yes. He died just a bit less than two months before our 37th wedding anniversary. He still made my heart give a little jump whenever I saw him. Yes, my heart remembers when.
Ahhh Ms. Sandra Daughtridge, now, I'm tearing up with you too.... He sounds like he was such a cool & brave Good Dude... I sincerely hope this finds you well & healthy, in April of 2020. Your guy wouldn't accept you to give up, much less quit. There's NO QUIT in your DNA. Ms, you're NOT hard wired for that. Respectfully, Santiago Murillo.
What a beautiful love story! I believe in love at first sight because I experienced it myself. So special to marry your first love. You were blessed indeed!
Sandra, God is good, and because of JESUS sacrifice ... We all have real hope. You can count on your heart to know that your Love Will. Be Waiting on you to join him someday . God Bless. 😌
I'm 68 now and have saved up lots of memories about her (not Trisha BTW - - my significant other) on my playlist. Trisha hit this nail on the head. So many of those songs can take me right back to a moment, a place, the perfume or cigarette smoke, a room on the Vegas strip, . . . . . . at 68 they'll still make me laugh or even put a tear in my eye. Three chords and the truth will get you every time when it's from the heart.
Don't comment on songs very often but this is PERFECT. The voice the musicians, I have no idea who wrote this, but I think most of us have lived this. Its so good that it gives you CHILLS.
I love how this song can thrust me back to 1990 something 😊 someone below commented this is a masterpiece. I agree. 30 years later I’m still moved by Trisha’s sound.
I was in a hardware store waiting to pay for my goods and this song came over the loud speakers. From the first note I recognized it though I hadn't heard it in years. I teared up. Came home and looked for this video, and I don''t remember ever seeing it before. Trisha's eyes are the kind that you can drown in. Garth Brooks is a lucky man, to have such a soulful voice to wake up to every day.
This song is so beautiful and so very true! I have survived brain aneurysm rupture and stroke and have some memory loss but every time I hear a song, the song remembers when. This song is special to me because it reminds me of one of the best times of my life!
Hugh Prestwood wrote this one, and the first time I played it on KTMO in 1993, I just leaned back in the chair and started the next song and all but lost it. Thanks to Hugh and Trisha for making it happen. Some things we bury indeed, do rise again.
You are SO wrong - I was just about to write a comment to thank RJ for mentioning Hugh Prestwood!! The song and the songwriter are especially important and respected in country music -- that's why the TV show Nashville started and kept coming back to The Bluebird Cafe, the most famous of the many venues in Nashville where songwriters >must< play only their original songs. There is something magical about hearing the song you love sung by the songwriter who wrote it! (At the BB they often tell stories about the writing of the song -- it's magical.)
This song speaks directly to the intense heart gripping power of a single....song. It can cause a dam full of backed up emotions to gush out with sudden intensity. It’s true- some things we bury, are bound to rise again.💕💕
"I was standing at the counter, I was waiting for the change, when I heard that old familiar music start. It was like a lighted match had been tossed into my soul, it like a dam had broken in my heart" From the moment I heard those words, I knew that the perfect song had been written about what music does to the soul!
nathan weimer I should thank Jim? I think he's moved on..Ha! BTW, do you remember when this song came out? Back in 1993?! Time flies, eh? Back then I thought I'd stay 'Forever Young'..but that's whole `nother song. LOL
Just love this song. The lyrics are so true. Every day I hear a song and it takes me back to a place in my life, somtimes good and sometimes not so good. I'm okay with that though. That was life at that time and most of the memories are good.
I absolutely love Trisha Yearwood's voice and song choices. She obviously takes time to pick songs with deep lyrical meaning. Hugh Prestwood hit this one out of the park with his writing, and Trisha's voice made this a country classic. Wow.
🥀One of the most Beautiful song's I've ever heard from Trisha it's a timeless classic story teller and she done a powerful but soothing way of expressing her feelings. I can feel her lyrics! That's a true artist🥀☝️🥀
This came through in my Spotify rotation.....this is an incredibly well written and performed song that I've not heard in years. The beauty of music is being able to live with it forever.

Lyrics: I was standing at the counter I was waitin' for the change When I heard that old familiar music start It was like a lighted match Had been tossed into my soul It was like a dam had broken in my heart After taking every detour Gettin' lost and losin' track So that even if I wanted I could not find my way back After drivin' out the memory of the way things might have been After I'd forgotten all about us The song remembers when We were rollin' through the Rockies We were up above the clouds When a station out of Jackson played that song And it seemed to fit the moment And the moment seemed to freeze When we turned the music up and sang along And there was a God in Heaven And the world made perfect sense We were young and were in love and we were easy to convince We were headed straight for Eden It was just around the bend And though I had forgotten all about it The song remembers when I guess something must've happened And we must've said goodbye And my heart must have been broken Though I can't recall just why The song remembers when Well for all the miles between us And for all the time that's passed You would think I haven't gotten very far And I hope my hasty heart Will forgive me just this once If I stop to wonder how on earth you are But that's just a lot of water Underneath the bridge, I've burned And there's no use in backtracking around corners I have turned Still, I guess some things we bury Are just bound to rise again And even if the whole world had forgotten The song remembers when Yeah, even if the whole world has forgotten The song remembers when

For all of us have been there, that is a very powerful song. I must admit that knocked me on my ass for all. It's worth. I love you my baby and always will
It's a beautiful "love" song and wonderfully performed. But much more than that, it's the best illustration I have encountered, over decades of listening and learning, of the great power of music to transcend barriers: even those of time itself. Kudos to all those responsible for this great performance.
Just had somebody else come up to me and tell me "You look so much like Trisha Yearwood". I have heard that about a dozen times through the last 20 years. As we both get older I still hear it. Such a beautiful voice.

I wonder where you are, but listen to the Words of this Song because they are dedicated to you and the WONDERFUL LIFE WE SHARED. YOU WERE TAKEN MANY YEARS AGO. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER ALL THE LOVE ❤ WE SHARED .I WILL NEVER STOP WANTING TO BE WITH YOU REMEMBER ME KEITH ALWAYS. KNOW I STILL LOVE YO❤❤❤❤U
From the very first chord, Trisha transports you back to the very moment in time when your heart was broken. The time when you last remember happienss and love. In the lyrics you find yourself walking through each experience over in your mind and if for only a second in time you catch yourself asking, "why?" For some, it could be as short a few weeks but in some cases like mine you could be 25 years hindsight and still wondering the same question. Yes, pull your boots on but "Remember when"
I know this may sound corny, but it is true. I am not a country music fan but my girlfriend at the time was. I am not a fan of dancing either. I had just parked the car and we were going into the store as a big pickup truck parked near us and this song was playing. I grabbed my girlfriend and started to dance with her in the parking lot. The couple noticed us and cranked it up for us. She loved it and this song will always mean a lot to me. Thanks Trisha
The song remembers yes how long do we remember?some remember the good times and some remember the bad . But as we live life , I think it’s best if we recalled a life of happiness and love with disappointment ,to rise us back to happiness peacefully with kindness and love
Hello👋 Sandy. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Anyone who feels music as their foundation to recall memories understands why I have a special love for Trisha. As I listened to her sing about life it always takes me to the times of my life. The song remembers when. I've always been a little bit jealous of Garth.
Songs so define an era or a feeling...this one has taken me to so many memories of so many songs ---where I was and who I was with---decades and decades ago. This one gets to me every time. It is so beautifully written and this version with the balanced strings enhances her perfect delivery. Hearing her sing it in person is on my lifetime bucket list!
Hello👋 Charlotte. How are you doing? Hope you’re fine. I’m Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
This will always take me back to a lost relationship. The emotional lyrical content is already great, but add Trisha's vocals and it's just a heartbreaking killer of a song.
I'm 20 years old and just heard this song for the first time - it gave me the chills. Wow. Somebody said "the song remembers when" was a good song from under the comments section of a RU-vid video of of L.A Freeway by Guy Clarke, and boy am I glad I listened to it in the end. I feel like I could lie in a hammock under the summer sun and hum this tune for hours...
Tonight is the first time I've heard this song as far as I recall. I kind of lost it for a bit. The song remembers when and it reminded me who. An off-and-on relationship they could just never seem to work its way out. I guess our song hasn't finished writing itself.
this song always spoke to me, since i heard it for the first time at 8 years old. Now that i listen to it again i realize the depth and truth of the lyrics. there are so many songs that bring back memories both good and painful.
Dislikes are stupid. Trisha is one of the best female country singers out there. She's got a little bit of a twang, and she definitely knows how to turn a note.

"...We were rollin' through the Rockies We were up above the clouds When a station out of Jackson played that song And it seemed to fit the moment And the moment seemed to freeze When we turned the music up and sang along And there was a God in Heaven And the world made perfect sense We were young and were in love and we were easy to convince We were headed straight for Eden It was just around the bend And though I had forgotten all about it The song remembers when..." Those lyrics go right to my soul.
Always loved this one. Music is a trigger. And this tune reminds me of my 1st love.. 54 now ..I was 20 then ..he is married and lives in a different country. I am married too and have been for over 20 years..but we shared a lot of music...and a tune can bring me right back there...Thank you, Trisha...Kelly
What a beautiful song, the words break your heart and Tricia's voice singing is so poignant. She has one of the loveliest voices I have ever heard, in my opinion, she is the best.
Can't believe it was this far back. Songs like this define my first love in high school. It carried into the early 2000's until it died, but songs like this put me right back in it. Heartbreaking but at the same time, I've never felt so much since. Music just doesn't have this kind of power anymore, mostly because artists just aren't as good. It's not really their fault; the best have already happened.
I was standing at the counter I was waitin' for the change When I heard that old familiar music start It was like a lighted match Had been tossed into my soul It was like a dam had broken in my heart After taking every detour Gettin' lost and losin' track So that even if I wanted I could not find my way back After drivin' out the memory of the way things might have been After I'd forgotten all about us The song remembers when We were rollin' through the Rockies We were up above the clouds When a station out of Jackson played that song And it seemed to fit the moment And the moment seemed to freeze When we turned the music up and sang along And there was a God in Heaven And the world made perfect sense We were young and were in love and we were easy to convince We were headed straight for Eden It was just around the bend And though I had forgotten all about it The song remembers when I guess something must've happened And we must've said goodbye And my heart must have been broken Though I can't recall just why The song remembers when Well for all the miles between us And for all the time that's passed You would think I haven't gotten very far And I hope my hasty heart Will forgive me just this once If I stop to wonder how on earth you are But that's just a lot of water Underneath the bridge I've burned And there's no use in back tracking around corners I have turned Still I guess some things we bury Are just bound to rise again And even if the whole world had forgotten The song remembers when Yeah, even if the whole world has forgotten The song remembers when Love from Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪
I think she's is absolutely the MOST BEAUTIFUL artist and her and Garth are adorable together they really go together. I'm from Tulsa, well Muskogee what's 20 minutes. Y'all sat beside my niece at a restaurant y'all frequent on Lyn's birthday a few years back. I can't think of the restaurant. Jamilles yeah that's it. Lol. I'm 54 single never married and if I could find her identical twin voice and all I'd be in love. Sorry Garth that's a compliment don't beat me up. LoL. Love you Both!!!! Tell Ms Reba howdy.
I'm not usually a country music fan but i heard this song on The Voice tonight, liked it immediately and wanted to hear the original. This was worth looking for! Musically it's very ry good but those lyrics! As others have mentioned music has amazing time-traveling power. Some songs really do open up a fresh/new old memory. One for the playlist!
The first time I heard this song, I had to pull off the road and listen. I think my heart broke all over again for a love lost years before. To this day, I can't hear this song without mourning that lost love. Thank you for a song that always stirs my heart. 😢
