We’re graced with a pair of attractive 16-gauge O/U shotguns. Made in Turkey, albeit in different factories, the Tristar and Stevens show more similarities than differences. We go head-to-head to see which guns comes out on top.
I have an Ithaca 37 Featherweight 16 ga that was my grandfather’s which I adore. Killed my first grouse with it as a kid. 16 is not as common these days, love seeing this. May have to get an O/U now.
I have been hunting in western washington state with my tri-star setter lt 12ga for the last couple of years. It is my first O/U and I love it. I have been taking grouse and rabbit with it, no problem. $500.00 for a fantastic field gun is a great deal.
I thought Turkey it is not a bad manufacture and bough for a fun and hunt Tristar trinity 20Ga in stainless steel receiver it was my mistake. Trigger worked improperly I sent it to a warranty, After top receiver got rusted I wished to remove stock but they stripped the tread of bolt which connected the stock and I have to send the second time to warranty. It shoots skeet well but quality of gun and service like poor Chinese. I will never look back to any Turkey made gun even for free. And this video was my trigger to buy this shit. I am pissed off people know that they advertise the trash and they are still doing it.
Just traded my 555 in on a trinity. Got the non-alloy receiver, wanted the added weight. Absolutely love the tristar and really prefer the extractors vs ejectors the 555e had. Both are high quality budget shotguns.
Great review, very comprehensive. How's the wear on the aluminum reciever with the steel hinge pins? Will it become an issue to where the steel chews through the aluminum? I like extractors.
Was at the gun store to buy 12 gauge shells for my shotgun. They were out. I saw they had plenty of 16 gauge shells though. So I asked the salesman if they had a 16 gauge shotgun for sale. He said no...hadn’t had one in stock in about 3 years.
I like my 12 but i have always had a soft spot and a love for a 16 gauge. I really wish they where as popular as they once where. Maybe then ammo would cost the same as 12 and 20. I know plenty of people that like them and i think the want would be there and only get better as a younger generation re discovered a great gauge of shotgun. The manufactures and industry need to support the come back!
That recoil really seems to hit hard eventhough its 16ga , i can only imagine a 12ga …. I personally not a big fan of recoil…so im stil using semi auto.. but i'd really like to find a budget over under in 12ga that has low recoil and doesn't throw empty shells out.. i also prefer to hand pick the empty shells.
I like a 12. But I'm glad you like the 16. I don't own a over and under been thinking about getting one but there so expensive. What do they cost. I have and old side by sise stevens. In 20 gauge. I have several shotguns. Pumps and autos. I like rifles bit have sspecial place in my heart for shotguns,,
I have the tristar hunter 16 gauge. Nice grun for the price and it does well shooting clays. I'd like the auto ejectors, but the extractors are fine, especially when shooting clays.
