Just came across this video today. Crazy cause I happen to have 2 PS3s I bought of eBay. One is A01 model with YLOD and the other is E01 MG model with GLOD. I might be hitting you up sometime in the near future to get these bad boys running again.

Crazy how unreliable the 90nm RSX was. 150 days is barely anything. Let alone 7! I recently bought a used 3001B slim with 1400 days that had never been opened. I’ve accidentally left it on for 3+ days at a time and temps stay in the mid 60s with SYSCON running the fan at 25%!

Dang I have a pretty mint 60GB A01 that I rarely use for fear of getting YLOD. It’s like a rare artifact. Seeing that it can be repaired with lower temp GPUs makes me less concerned!

Am i reading this right? Youre using gpu or cpu from 40 nm consoles?And accmodating the change by modding the sycon?then its possible to have KOK console with emotion engine with better GPU? this way having the best PS3,you sir are a genius.

good job dude! i always wanted to know how to desolder/solder surface-mount components (and also micro-soldering), but right now i only know how to do normal soldering (i used that knowlage to upgrade my soldered keyboard switches on a 103 key mechanical keyboard)

Most of the time NECS are fine, but I always contact the customer to say that they’re bad if that ends up being the case.

@@ConsoleKingRepair Best idea really, kinda understand some customers like their console to remain OEM as from factory state if they're a collector etc,I have a Fat PS3 i get for very cheap, Luckily it works fine, I just plan to swap out the HDD for an SSD at some point and re-paste. ;)

My ps3 fat is still going strong. But I never really played games on it much only red dead redemption and the lions share of its use was for streaming or dvd/bluray playback.

It’s very difficult to delid a 40 on board, I would recommend not delliding.

I’m somehow lucky enough that my 90nm CECHE01 PS3 from 2007 still works perfectly. Sure it’s rather hot running and loud but it hasn’t given up the ghost yet. It’s thrown 1601/1701 (a 3034 precursor) in the past and I’ve been somewhat worried for this thing

Yeah, my CECHC04 from 2007 was working fine until early this year as well. Starting YLODding when starting PS2 games at first. Now it just won't boot. Time to save up for a frankenstein mod I guess.

No, the GPU and CPU arent being powered on when its on standby power.

Can I just ask, are all 40nm's the same when doing Frankies? 21xx - 40xx PS3s all have 40nm RSX's but they're different revisions, do they require slightly different training data, resistance values or anything, or are they the same? Also, do you have to prebake all of these motherboards to prevent moisture from popcorning and delaminating the board?

@@razmann4k I usually bake board to ensure they don’t popcorn. All 40nm data is the same, some require a different address write, but that’s about it.

When I got that console and noticed the syscon said 7 days I was shocked. Knew I absolutely had to get it fixed. Glad it all worked out. Sucks that UPS found a way to damage it. ConsoleKing did some great work. Glad I sent it out.

Excellent ps3 restorations! What would you do in the case of a botched de-lid of the cell (the chip has a ding or scratch, causing GLOD) replace the cell?

In most cases, it would become a parts board. to replace the CELL, you need to take off Syscon, and both NAND chips from another working board. The CELL is married to Syscon and NAND, and it currently cannot be remarried.

@@motivvt Yes, in rare cases you can take a CELL from a donor board. For instance, if i have a No ps2 board, i can transfer the CELL, and use it on my board with a broken CELL.

i have a 4 usb ps3 which dosnt have the EE/GS chip and it did the YLOD imediatly so i tried a youtube trick and put hot air in the back for a while, let it cool then it would get to the XMB but after about 30-45 seconds the XMB would start to lag baddly then shut down, any ideas what that could be?

I personally sand them down, then buff. I use a very fine sand paper to make them look great. Works good for getting out deep scratching.

quick question. what type of rework station do you have? i'm also in the professional console repair businness but still i didn't find the right one for this kind of job. all the station we have overheat the RSX before the board reach the temperature and the solder under the ram chips start to explode, with or without the IHS. is frustrating not been able to save those consoles

Thanks for sharing! I have a fat PS3 not booting. When I plug in, it shows red light, and when I touch the power, it will beep then immediately shut down with a click sound, and no more red light. Do you think this is PSU issue?

Question, if you heat the chip making all the solder under it make contact again, fix it, or it doesn’t work? Because as far I been told it happen because the solder cracks resulting in YLOD

You're talking about doing a reflow, which in most cases will not work, trust me. The main fault is the bumps underneath the die of the chip. And the bumps need a LOT of heat to even reach melting temperature to even be worthwhile. In some cases, heat can align broken bumps, but this solution is never permanent, and does not last. The GPU will always have that underlying fault, and the bumps will continue to fail.

Yeah, gonna have to say screw amazon, probably buying an e01 from you guys... when I've got the scratch. I have a K01 right now, but I want ps2 compatibility, and guaranteed life on the console. I bet this K01 will last a while though.

It’s expensive because of the time and needing all the necessary tools. Other option is to just get one working off eBay or something but I know at least for my company, we offer a limited lifetime warranty

It’s easier to get the RSX off with it dellided, and I delid the CELL to achieve better temps.

@@TeraByte38 it’s not directly touching the die, it just has new thermal paste on it. The old paste dries out, and needs to be replaced.

For a split second, both the red and green light turn on, and it creates a yellow color.
