I love that Triumph does things their own way and not afraid to diverge with unique design. The dash for instance, totally unique yet very nice and stylish. A refreshing difference!
Previous R3 owner here with over 130000klm on one 2005 R3 and near 40000k on another 2010 R3R . I've ridden the new R3R and was very impressed how much more nimble it was compared to my old R3. The brakes are amazing! My only criticism is that rear guard look, the panniers are too small and wind protection options aren't very good. I'm going to upgrade to either this or an Indian Challenger, though I would miss the power and torque of my old R3
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Do you get the kind sense of occasion from the triumph that you get from a Harley I’m looking for a replacement for my customised stage 2 19 plate Street Bob that was written of last year
@@andrewjohnson4475 To be honest you don't in standard state, but the Rocket 3 with aftermarket pipes, however, may. It needs to rumble and roar more for that
I think panniers are themselves aesthetically pleasing... conveyed through a sense of convenience and usefulness; these things make them nice to see and look at.
I had my first 600-mile service on my GT 221 in May 2022 and it was $265.00 USD including parts, labor, and taxes. The next service is at 10k-miles or one year. My 10k service on my HD Fat Boy was $485.00 USD in December 2021. Triumph has 10k service intervals and HD is 5k. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder! The exhaust spoils the lines of what otherwise might be a smart looking bike. I say might as I can't make my mind up, from some angles she is definitely not a looker. The FXDR had the same issue.
i prefer the 2008 model in red and with forward footpads, thank you. it was perfect from the beginning. the new one is nice, but somewhat of a modern confused wannabe. nice, but looks too much like all the other modern bikes. the old model was cleaner, with analogue speedo etc. more raw rocket look, in my opinion. thanks for a great personal review.
I bought this bike in september 2020.I have on it about 2500km .Excellent bike in all aspects.I am now 49 years old and I have only 18 months bike license and zero experience for driving a bike and this is my first bike. Bike is easy for driving ,excellent breaks .Rocket 3 GT with bags and Triumph conection sistem cost in Croatia about 26000€ and I enjoy in every second when I'm on it.Greting from Croatia.🤗💪💣🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷🇭🇷
From the factory, the throttle mapping has his bike neutered. It's still insane, but with a throttle mapping fix it becomes even more insane. Gains 40+ HP at the top end from a simple throttle mapping change.
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I had it done to mine and going past 4000 RPM is even more brutal. On the factory mapping, even with a full twist you're only getting ~61% throttle to the engine. The tune makes 100% be 100%.
@@giantslug6969 Where can you get this re-mapping done? I have no mechanical ability, unfortunately, will have to pay someone to do it. Doubt if the dealer would......does it void the warranty?
I've always ridden HD's and I'm very loyal to that brand, but in the last year this Rocket 3 GT and the new R18 are certainly testing my loyalty , two really brilliantly engineered motorcycles.
Had my Fat Bob dyna 7 years , I love this bike as well and money burning hole in my back pocket. Trouble is misses likes coming out and doesn’t look good for long 2 up journeys .Divorce coming up 😂
Also moving on from HD. Keeping what I've got but looking for a change. The r 18 is awesome looking too but the horizontally opposed engine cylinders would prevent stretching out the legs. Leaning towards this Rocket 3 gt
Once you ride a shaft drive-line bike, you'll never go back to a chain and sprockets or belt-drive bike. Ex 2003 Honda VTX 1800 V-Twin owner here. She gave me 40k+ smooth miles of fun. I just can't imagine what it feels like a 0-60 in 2.7 sec on this Rocket-III . This puts you at New C-8 Corvettes or Tesla territory. Definitely not a bike for beginners...🥂
Thank you for the really useful review. Besides, I m too jealous about where you live: I'm in Paris and when last sunday afternoon I tried to hit the road for a ride it was awful, despite the 6pm lockdown there where cars everywhere, neverending queues, traffic jam ... in 20 minutes I gave up. Ride safe and be thankful for how nice a place to live you have!
Many thanks for a great and in depth review which I really enjoyed. The Rocket 3 GT is a bit too big heavy for my taste but I have the greatest admiration for it as a great looking British built world class bike with so much performance. Keep up these great reviews I just can't wait for the next one!
I own the Rocket 3 GT I've had it for just over 12 months done nearly 9000 KMS, I've owned 5 Harleys including a 2006 VRod plus a Yamaha Roadstar 1600 out of all these bikes the Triumph Rocket 3 GT is superior to all of the other bikes I have ever owned over the years this is the best bike I have ever owned!
I have lived in the States my whole life and was raised on Triumph Motorcycles. My first Bike was a Triumph 250 Trail Blazer. This Rocket 3 is the Hizzle! The torque is Bananas! You can get on this Bike and get lost in it. You will find yourself far from home as this Triumph sucks up the asphalt under you! Get this Bike! Be free and know you have reached the Summit.
Love my TFC, but when I first got it, I hated it. I made a deal with the dealer to exchange it for a 2020 H2SXSE+. When I rode it back a week or so later to do the exchange, I realized what an amazing powerhouse this thing is. So I kept it, but also got the H2SXSE+ :))).. I am one of the happiest MOFOs around
Incredible Triumph. Triumph have a really great competitive range of motorbikes now. Great review as usual and always watch your reviews even though have no intentions of considering buying them. Saying that, I am looking at buying a second hand Honda CB1100 after your review and would not have even considered it before.
It’s a great, easy riding bike. Had mine 4 months or so now. One complaint.... just one. Panniers are a crock of shit. Stupid priced money, not even water proof. Each pannier comes with basically “a plastic bag” to cover each pannier with. What bike of this price? Plastic bag to cover your panniers with. Great bike..... panniers are my only whinge. Crock of shit. Stupid money, truly pitiful.
I've read this before on the genuine panniers. Personally, I would buy some after market panniers and fabricate an adaptor to mount them. LeatherLyke bags have served me well on my old R3

Absolutely fantastic reviews. These have been my go-to reference as I’ve been shopping for a new bike this year and invariably you point out something that I might otherwise have missed / hadn’t considered (thank you!) Tell the lads at Triumph that the Rocket wasn’t even on my list; now I’m headed to my local dealer to put a deposit on a new 2022!
Phenomenal machine, but it's 'too much' for me in just about every way: too expensive for my wallet, too heavy for a smaller guy, too big for anywhere I've got to store it. The Rocket will live in my dreams, I'll live with my Bobber. Thanks, as ever.
A great review guys. I'm waiting for delivery of my GT but without the forward foot controls ( I prefer having my feet under me, not forward). Having now sold my XJR1300 , I'm like a kid a Christmas getting all excited and twitchy. I probably be taking it back for its first service within a week!
Maybe it's an American thing, but here, that exhaust would be considered as sounding bad. It honestly sounds like a powerful sewing machine. Exhaust would be the first thing I change.
I ride a 2008 Triumph Rocket Touring. Changes gear like an old tractor but has limitless character. This new GT needs to be brought to market in a touring form. Solid side bins, screen etc. It's an amazing bike as is and would choose the GT over the R. Great review guys 👏
I picked up a GT back in October and I love it, the forward controls made all the difference for me when trying to decide between the R and GT. Also I'm glad your tester had the side bags and you guys demonstrated the operation of them. I was looking into getting them but just didn't know how they worked taking them on and off, so thank you
Hey guys! Great work on this review. I have been intrigued by this machine ever since they released it. I have seen the GT in the flesh but I have not sat on one yet nor have I ridden one. I haven't really wanted to because I knew that if I did I may well end up wanting one. Ol' Man, Mate, you looked right at home on this machine! I really do like how they have engineered the rider triangle so that larger riders can be comfortable too. The cockpit, well... It's not bad. I think it's clever how they designed and laid everything out, but personally I think the display should be a bit larger. Or go with a full TFT. But I think I could get used to it. One thing that really got my attention was that Corbin, the legendary seat maker here in California, has created a touring solution for this bike that includes hard bags and a nice batwing fairing. It looks awesome! But oh, the cost. Aye, there's the rub! The cost will keep me away from this one I 'm afraid. Great bike though. I like this new Rocket 3 way better than the previous gen. Thanks again for the review. Cheers!
Very good and profesional review ! I really enjoy watching you guys and admire your commitment to test such a torque motorbike in low temperatures 👍 you must be very brave or extremely experienced riders 😀
A reverse gear would do wonders, planning how I had to park my old R3 on a steep driveway was an issue, she was a beast to manhandle. (and a handle bar mounted USB/charging point is a must).
I just traded my 2019 Fat Boy on 4/12/22 for a 2022 Triumph Rocket 3 GT 221. Now all I need is some globull warming in Chicago so I can ride it. The seat on the R3 is about 3” higher than the Fat Boy so that’s something I need to get used to. I’ve had it a week and I’ve only been able to ride 140-miles due to the crap weather. Triumph recommends 1k-miles to completely break in so it will be a while before I can tear it up in sport mode. 😎🇬🇧
Beautiful bike with one visual flaw. That rear fender is really weird looking. They should have just went with the full fender. Otherwise, Triumph does it again with another in a long line of great bikes.
A question beside: with what camera did you film this video ? I am impressed by the composition: new bike in front of an old castle like elegant house. Beautiful landscapes that sourround the subject presented. Additionally of course perfect information - Thank You !
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thanks for the info. You see it. The shallow depth of field is looking great. Unsharb background, in front this iron made masterpiece. Stay healthy and allways a safe ride !
My Xdiavel delivers 52-55mpg, sounds incredible (too loud with the termigoni and baffle out) but, sport is a bit snatchy some of the finishing looks better on the Triumph. For me the shaft drive is ideal but a belt drive on the X is the next best thing. The pannier setup is better thought out as I had to go after market. I do think both bikes are very similar and are best for comparison as power cruisers.
Agreed.. need more long wheelbase bikes. Not sure if K1600 is to your liking, but would enjoy seeing that review. 66 inch wheelbase and will still wheelie 😁
I bought an identical Rocket GT, to the one you reviewed and I couldn’t agree more, with the “get to know it” statement I bought mine used, it’s a 2021 and had 2035 miles when I bought it in early November. It’s January 8 now and it’s got 3500 miles on her. I’m still getting to know her, but I love it more with every ride The 1st owner put a werx exhaust on it. (I was going to ride a speed master next) I fell in lust with this Rocket, as soon as I cranked it up, that werx exhaust is intoxicating As I was leaving the dealer parking lot, waiting for a break in traffic to take my test ride, my leg holding the bike up was shaking uncontrollably, I was so intimidated at 1st But you’re right, it has incredible low speed manners BUT….that TORQUE….is incredible I love your channel and would love to see you guys cross the pond and do some ride reviews here in Texas (or anywhere else in America) I think you’d enjoy doing some unrestricted riding Keep up the excellent job
As usually, great review, guys! I really like the way you do your reviews. Full of information and very very reasonable approach. I was waiting for GT review and I am glad you dropped few words on comparison with R 18 because I remember you liked it a lot. I am tall as well (190 cm) so I always look forward to anything you share with us from that perspective. Again, great review! Thank you!
I really like it. It looks heavier than it is, it's about the same weight as a Yamaha 1300 with more than double the power. Not usually in that big of a hurry, but it's nice to know it will go 0-60 in 2.73 sec. For myself the windshield would just be for looks because I don't plan on going 200 miles an hour. : )
I have watched a LOT of videos on the Rocket, and it seems like in half or more of the ones from England the streets are wet and gets the biked all mucked up. I guess it IS that rainy over there!!
