Triumph / Royal Enfield 'Trifield' 500 trials now has working brake light - getting there at last!

As well as now having a full set of lights to meet minimum road going requirements when lights are fitted, I was able to deduce that a damaged plug hole in the bottom of the primary cover was not really required, as this engine is an early example from before a primary chain tensioner was added. i also noticed - and demonstrated that the rear light actually dims when the tail lamp and headlamp are on and the brake is applied - perhaps a battery might help, as there may not quite be enough current on hand otherwise.

I think I would prefer to re-bush a distributor and use Lucas 12 volt components.

I believe a C15/B40 type of chain tensioner can be adapted for use on these T21s

I wonder if it would be possible to adapt a BSA B25 primary chain tensioner to that. It mounts to the stator bolts, so with a few spacers made to adapt it to the Triumph crankcase, it just might work.

Would like a closer look at the crank triggered ignition and charging set up for the lights. Is it a BTH magneto? Where are the coils to charge the lights?

Ever considered LED lamps? Very low wattage, probably get everything working for a total of 15watts.

Pretty sure LEDs like a battery

@@kevinphipps3644 maybe a simple capacitor setup would overcome that problem.

How about a capacitor in place of battery ? Will that work ?
@paulhenshaw4514

I don't think it would cover the demand when the brake is applied.

What I've found with mainly brit singles, and my sr500 they run fine with a capacitor or battery, they won't generally run very well without one or other, I'm surprised you have a system without either
