Thanks! Most "rackless" bags come with an exhaust shield. On the Scrambler, it basically wraps around the top pipe with the shield sitting on top and the bag just lays across it. There is definitely warmth there, but no damage to the bag after several trips, a few multi-day. I've been meaning to do a review video on the Giant Loop Great Basin bag. I love it. Hopefully soon. Nice! I heard that the Street Scrambler guard can be fitted with just a little effort. I need to get that done too. That...and a tail tidy!! Ernie is a monster (on any bike) but he makes stunt riding the XE look effortless.

Would love to know how you get on with the sump guard. I'm gonna be careful with weight on the rear rack too when it comes, getting the unit garage one, the rear mounting brackets look like a weak point which is why I think Triumph rate the load at 2kg. I've eaten heavier burritos. Your luggage set up sounds pretty cool, have you got a walkaround vid up?

@@d.Cog420 I have a multi-day adventure ride in West Virginia coming up in early October, I plan to shoot the Giant Loop Great Basin setup then. I will be packing for a few days and will be real world scenario. The Giant Loop "horse shoe" type bags seemed to be aimed more at the dual sport / dirt bike crowd, but so far, I've really enjoyed it. I have a touring bike for the highway that has tons of storage, but I've spent a lot of time backpacking through the years so know how to get the most out of available space, lol. Going with the Street Scrambler sump guard / skid plate is on my list (along with tail tidy and a few other small items). Could be my first install video, lol. Thanks for checking in.

Here's a few pics on my google drive. The previous owner drilled the aluminum mounting plate for the muskomoto scout pannier to use the same bolts as OEM bags mounting bobbins. The exhaust work was done before I bought the bike so I can't truly answer your question, but I will mention that I understand that the bike will tune itself after exhaust changes if you let it run a bit (I seem to remember 20-30 minutes).

Thanks! That's the Giant Loop Great Basin (just a bit bigger than the Coyote). No luggage rack, but the bag does come with a heat shield that I ended up mounting on the top of the pipe where the right side of the bag crosses over the pipes. Has worked like a charm. I do not put anything in that side of the bag that might suffer from high heat. So far, I've carried that bag on 5 multi-day trips and no ill effect from the heat at all. Regarding the tank bag, for the price, it's very well designed. Soft underside and the straps have protection where they connect with the bag. No scratches really, but I do have problem with dust getting under the bag and the little motion it has has give me a couple of discolored spots where the combination acts like sand paper to affect the finish on the tank. I will likely repaint the tank at some point anyway. As much as I ride off road, it's difficult to keep in showroom condition :)

I think it's just a tad over 4 gallons (almost 16 liters), and if I remember correctly, I'm getting around 40miles to the gallon so it's decent (160ish miles per tank) relative to my cruiser, which holds about a gallon more with the same mpg. I usually carry a bottle with 1/3 gallon on longer rides in remote areas...just in case. The Giant Loop bags all come with a heat guard that attaches to exhaust. I placed my guard pretty much on top of the exhaust so the bag kind of drapes across it. I've had it out on 3 multi-day trips so far. After the last ride, I did notice some discoloration on the underside of the bag where it sits on the heat guard. I ordered and received some heat tape that I plan to put in that area just as an extra precaution. I am planning a video of a review of the Giant Loop Great Basin I'm using....just need the make the time and do it!

Because it's "naked" it's not really friendly to long stretches of highway. I did part of the MA-BDR earlier this year and rode back home to Tennessee from Northern Virginia (about 400 miles of interstate) and it was a beating. I did a group ride (video coming out soon) in WV a few weeks ago, I trailered it up there, lol. I've got some great adventure riding within an hour's ride of home, but if I'm going further, I'm probably going to trailer it. It's definitely a disadvantage over the big adv bikes. Form over function in this case. There are a few aftermarket items that help a little, like Unit Garage has a taller windscreen with a bar for accessories like GPS (at more eye level). My other bike is an Indian Roadmaster so if I want to eat up highway miles (and stay on slab) I ride it. The Scrambler is my fun bike; though, I'm beginning to understand if I want to get into some rough stuff, I may need to add a true dual sport to my stable. I get more compliments on the Scrambler than any bike I've ever owned. It's crazy fun to ride (compared to the Indian,lol).

No remap. Per other recommendations, I let the bike run for 15-20 minutes after install and it auto adjusted to the new exhaust setup. Power increase was noticeable but subtle. I didn't feel the weight loss at all...but I weight 250lbs, lol. Noticeable improvements were sound...I get a lot of complements from other adventure bike riders...and less heat. Cheers to you!

Thank you! Have not carried a passenger. My wife will ride on my full dresser (couch rocket), but not on the Scrambler. I would imagine it would be similar to most cafe bikes with straight, flat seats (which would mean tolerable for shorter distances, lol). The high pipes do put out a lot of heat, but I've only noticed it maybe twice, and both were on very hot days when I was moving slower, doing more technical stuff. Like, on the day I shot this video, climbing to one of the highest points on the route, I even got a high temp coolant warning. I think the heat, not getting a lot of wind, and having dirt on my radiator all contributed. The decat was done before I bought the bike. I don't rally have a before and after comparison to share, but I've put on close to 4000 miles in 10 months and have only noticed the heat maybe twice.

Hey, Daniel. I bought my XE used and it already had the zhard pipes and decat, so I never had the stock slip-on, sorry. What color did you end up with? I'll be riding mine in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride this Sunday. Need to clean it first, lol.

The bag came with an exhaust heat shield which I mounted on top of the top pipe where the bag crosses it. No burns at all. It does get warm. I don't put anything super flammable or explosive in that side of the bag just to be safe, lol. I intend to do a long-term review of that bag...one of these days.

Thank you! Most fixed luggage situations for this bike involve a left-side only carrier and something for the tail, which most say is just fine, not unbalanced, it just looks weird to me. I've only seen one setup that gives you hardpoints on both sides of the bike, and it's from a company in South American who seems to be just getting off the ground, and even it looks a bit janky because the exhaust on that side protrudes so much. Maybe I'm just picky. The Giant Loop Great Basin has worked pretty good so far. It comes with a heat shield that for this setup sits on top of the pipe. The bag still gets warm on that side, but no damage to the bag or contents on 2 multi-day trips. I keep my tool kit on that side and other emergency supplies. There are some things I don't like about the setup, like the multitude of long straps. Strapping it to your bike just takes a couple of minutes, but adjusting the multitude of straps after loaded and bundling them up nicely at the start and then undoing at the end of a trip takes some time. It comes with 3 waterproof liner/bags, with which you can unload and load the bag pretty quick. Capacity is around 60L, and I find that to be true. I can carry about what I can in my biggest hiking backpack. I got it for multi-day trips to play in the woods, and so far, it's fit the bill. The added bonus for my setup is that since I have it going over the rear of my seat, I can lean back against it while standing, particularly on descents. I'll have to do a video on it!!!

@@RoadRash1 thank you! The listing you sent looks like Hepco & Becker, but I learned that their bars aren’t compatible with the OEM dresser bars. I’m looking into SW Motech for my bike.

@@jackvsc Hmmmm. I didn't have any problems with the lower dresser bars, mounted both the crashbars and lower dresser bars myself. I also didn't have to take off the header pipes to mount the uppers....I bought a cheep wrench, heated and bent it so that I could the nut on the back side of the frame off.

I don't know for sure, but I think that they will, but I heard they connect a little differently than on the 2019

Forgot to mention that in the notes! I got the cover from Alaskan Leather (alaskanleather.com). I have the Medium Long Sheepskin Buttpad in charcoal/sheared. If fits around the "nose" of your seat and secures with a nylon/velco strap underneath.

Excellent- do you really like it? My ass gets pretty sore on my stock seat after about 100 miles.

@@flyingmulerider7166 I wish I could say it's a wonder cure for saddle ass, but it only helps marginally. My butt still hurts after a long day, maybe a little less than without it. I did about 250 miles per day (a little more than half off and half on road) last weekend, and my butt still hurt at the end of the day. It does help with heat a little too. Overall, I would say it's worth the money.

I've been on 3 multi-day trips with the Giant Loop Great Basin. I installed the heat guard that comes with the bag on top of the top pipe, where the bag lays on top of the exhaust. So far, it's been fine. No damage to the bag or the contents on that side (it's where I keep the tougher stuff like my tool kit just in case). I did notice some discoloration in that area of the bag the last time I took it off. I may put some heat tape over that area for future trips. I need to do a video just on the bag. I really like it. I'm an ol' backpacker, and the way you load this thing is very backpack-like. My only big gripe is the strap management, but I found a solution for dealing with excess strapping that has worked okay, but doesn't look great.

In one day? I would say not very. Most such trips involve at least some highway riding, and with little wind protection that could be a beating. My other bike is an Indian Roadmaster...which is like riding a lazy boy...so maybe I'm over critical. Having said that, I've done 500 miles in a day (which included some off roading and some US interstate) and I survived. It really depends on how you set it up too. If you get the larger windscreen, run street tires, and maybe throw one of the air cushions under you, it could make 500 miles go by easily.

But if you are asking how comfortable it was on my trip on the SM500, which I did over 3 days, I would say it was very comfortable. The bike did extremely well even on the roughest parts of the off-highway riding.
