I’m the schmuck who payed $416 at the same dealership as Matt ($28 of that tax, $281 in labor!!). I now am feeling totally ripped off. I’m no mechanic at all but do my own oil change and valve adjustments etc on my TW200. But I thought for this my first brand new hi tech bike, I’ll let the dealership do all the inspections… (they may do?) software etc… I do not accredit this to Triumph, I totally think its the dealer. Im trying to also get a warranty piece of work done they want me to pay for but that is another story. I’m with Matt, I have absolutely loved the bike, it’s got pick up! But.. just be aware, I feel it’s the new model blues, some will be fine and some will have issues, add that with parts not available from India and cheaper quality parts on it. I love that it was cheap for what it is.. but my credit card is starting to rack up at the dealer making it not cheap. Jury still out :)
Well ... Triumph is not a cheap brand for sure. And I would not feel ripped off if you really felt helped and serviced at the dealership. The people there have also to live from something ... But if you don't feel good afterwards and you maybe have another dealer to go to ... give it a try. Good work can cost a dollar more, but it has to be good work in the first place.
Dude, my new RE Shotgun 300 mile break-in service was $800!!!!!! That's what Young Power Sports, where i bought it, charges for it. That's mostly labor costs for doing valve work. Friggin' ridiculous. They do the same thing every 3k miles. Doing it myself next time.
Love RE bikes. But valve clearance check every 5.000 km. Are they kidding? Check service intervals of that bike outside the US because you might be suprised. Some works are simply a tax that you pay to maintain the warranty.
Holy moly! You guys pay 400-800 for a service, I literally pay 45-50 usd for servicing my motorcycle, and not to forget the first 3-4 services are FOC + consumables(oil and filter) in India
I'm close to 600 miles on my 400x and also think the $416 service cost is a rip-off. I love the bike, but I'm used to inexpensive self-service maintenance costs for Hondas and Yamahas.
@@logicalindian_777 Cost of living in India is different than in Europe or the US so it is the average income. Having said this, 800€ for a break in service is outrageous even for USA standards.
$425? WHAT? I have mine at right over 600 miles ......Isn't it just an oil change? (I love the bike, but I also love many Hondas and Kawasakis and some Yamahas too). 31.25 to turn off light O ring 0.68 Oil filter 9.00 Motor oil at - $18.00 x 3 = 54.00 - Castrol POWER 1 SAE 10W-50 $101.xx with tax I assume
Triumph scrambler 400 were produced in India with India quality control..same like Harley Davidson x400/500 I still prefer my Kawasaki super cruiser SOHC KZ200 year 1983 produced in Japan
I have a better idea since it will cost you $32 bucks to turn the service light off from now on. Just disassemble the speedo and take the bulb out, or put a piece of black electrical tape over the service light. Problem solved.
I agree, great bike. I just changed the front sprocket from the 14 tooth to a 15 tooth as most RU-vidrs recommend. I did the work myself, found the correct sprocket on Amazon (get the one with the rubber strip around the circumference front and back of the sprocket). It shipped from the Netherlands but got here in a surprisingly short time. Ridge Roamer and Bankrupt Pensioner YT channels have good videos on this. Haven't had time to test performance on the highway but it extends 1st and 2nd gears on my dirt road. Reported to drop the RPMs about 300 to 500.
Labor is expensive. Oil changes are expensive. Oil changes are easy. Fix the light with jb weld. $10. Paste it up and rig it into position, let it sit 24 hours
Wow! Just watched Tdubkid and he says his 400 had a minor dump and due to a plastic piece being broke off it stranded him. Then he comments going to be expensive and he doesn’t know how long the bike will be down. Yikes!
Hoping the aftermarket picks up soon for these bikes and maybe with the 2025s they'll fix some of the issues I keep hearing about (randomly shutting off, etc). Still have my eyes on picking one of these up just to have a small bike to ride fast for fun and do some light offroading but some of the posts/videos of issues have had me hesitant and hearing rumors of an updated DRZ400 from Suzuki and stuff so I might just wait till EICMA and all these announcements are done to solidify my choice.
I never let anyone work on my bikes, including my new 400X. Did the oil change myself. Bought two filters and oil -about $45. One thing I haven’t much comment on is the amazing engine breaking it has.
I was torn between this and the Suzuki V Strom 250sx, I eventually got the V Strom, first service at 1000kms was free (oil and filter change) I bought a service kit for it for the next service at Suzuki, I paid $50 😂 for a 250 this thing kicks real good, it almost drags my 08' Klr650, after seeing your video I'm glad I skipped the Triumph
Holy moly! 400 us dollars for the 1st service? Insane lol! Here in India its just 2000 INR or 24 dollars for the 1st service which includes oil change, washing the bike along with chain cleaning and lubing.
Hi from London. I don’t own one of these (yet), but it’s top of my short list, maybe look for a nice bargain used one in the winter. For some nice accessories, have a look at the K-Speed site, they are in Thailand. I don’t know how much the postage to USA is, or how long the wait… but they do a tail tidy for about $50 and a couple of different cool looking straight through exhausts for less than $400 ! Happy Trails!
I hate that certain manufactures have that service light that only a dealer can shut off. My Street Triple is the same way, but since I bought the bike at my local dealer, they shut the light off for me free of charge. The day they start charging me is the day I stop buying from them.
$400.00 for a 600 mile service is ridiculous. Parts for the Triumph are too expensive. Back in 1978 I bought a Triumph TR-7 and it was fun to drive but the workmanship of the build was questionable. Saying that, I wished I still had that car.
Hey Matt , I’m 5-7” have you found the seat height to be an issue? Went and sat on one the street 400 fits me like my TW but the scrambler seemed a bit tall , what are your thoughts. I’ve seen a few lowering kits….?
BMW LED turn signals make yours sound like a bargain! 💰💰💰💰💰 I’m loving this bike, I’ve been riding the street one around the last week, the Scrambler is where it’s at!😎👍👍
Keep your eyes on eBay and Aliexpress. As these bikes are built in India and generally more affordable there, there should be a strong aftermarket coming out. My motorcycle, a KTM 390 Adventure, has been out for a while and the parts are plentiful and inexpensive.
I bought this bike this spring, my Triumph dealer was supposed to see that I got $250 worth of gear which never happened. I am doing all my service work myself. Ì don't care how many service lights are on from now on.
The bike is sick, but kind of a buzz kill that you need proprietary software or a dealer to turn off indicators on the dash. That makes me appreciate the TW's simplicity that much more.
I love all your videos and basically I did buy my 2023 TW 200 because of your recommendations. I love the TW but wish it had a little more power to keep up with traffic. So I am stoked about what you have to say about the Scrambler 400 X. Now my legs are kind on the shorter side. How do you handle the higher bike in comparison to the TW? I am looking forward on additional videos. Keep up the good work.
My 1st service was covered under the warranty. Only paid for the oil change which I’ll do myself next time. Great videos and I look forward to more 400X content.
