I had a TR-6 for years and a couple of my friends who had 6's took their cars to professional race car mechanics and had their stock power plants (106 hp straight 6) upgraded with hotter cams, headers, free flow exhausts, and triple Webbers. Their cars had power like V-8's.
10.40s holy smokes that sucker is cookin! Only car Ive seen that I could get with the 4 cyl/turbo thing. Badazz ride I bet it surprises a lot of modern ricers straight piped chargers etc
My first car was a 71 TR6 with a 2.5 inline 6 and about 106hp...At the time, because it made cool sounds, I thought it was a Maserati...Turns out later I realized it was a pretty slow car...fun though. And that's what matters.
@@shawnweed265 They can made tuned to be rapid; forged engine, dry sump etc etc youtube ( Tr6 full race engine on Triple Weber ) this is one racing youtube (Triumph TR6 Hockenheim 2022 Race 1 )
@@Insolation1 I would be happy to just to have the Fuel Injection model here (TR5)...they were very capable cars. Fast is all relative, but at least with the FI car you could keep pace with modern traffic without the fear of being run off the highway by an SUV or minivan. I still love the layout. I had a couple S2000s and I got them because they reminded me of the layout of the TR6. Long hood, short deck and well laid out. I like the fact too that the used TR6s haven't become stupid expensive. Cars like the Sunbeam Tiger just became ridiculously priced (although the Alpines are pretty reasonable if you can find one sorted out.) Cheers.
I’ve got a 72 TR6, I’m trying to get back on the road. Previous owner put a 1982 Datsun 280z L28 straight 6 in it with headers. I put some TR6 carbs on it because 240z carbs are hard to come by. Eventually maybe Mikunis or Webers. It hails ass already though, since the TR6 is about 400lbs lighter than the 280z. Hehe
Don’t mind me I was being an idiot. I instantly that 2.3 like focus rs motor. Then I saw your channel and said “oh crap old school 2.3” badass cars both of you. Really cool to see those 2.3’s flying.
@@shonoff4571 used to people being confused over this stuff. A lot of people don’t even know they was a thing, lol. Che k out my channel if you want to kill some time
And what's your point? This car was set up for drags... Obviously not stock.. so who cares it has a 4 instead of a 6! Many people run outside of the stock class, with huge mods. I have a TR. It uses pretty much a tractor engine. Small bore, huge stroke. Did you know the Brits had a taxation based on bore size? and to try and deal with it they tried to keep the pistons as small as possible, but increased the stroke to compensate? Terrible engine design. Check out wiki or and other web site for details if interested. There are so many companies today running 4 and 6 bangers with single and dual turbos that never would have even consider this even 10 years ago. So dont poo poo this guy for using "todays" ideas on 40 and 50 year old cars. Or are you of the concourse mind set that all cars should be stock? I hate that mind set. Its your car, chop it up, change it to any way that suites You, run what you want. And with 76?? ish.. thousand made,, its not a rare museum piece. I have many TR friends who take their cars to shows, and many compete in the modified category, that have a variety of upgrades to their cars, even simple things like an aluminum rad for better cooling. All the old concourse farts turn their nose up at things like this, or bitch and moan its not original. They just tell them to mind their own business, and move on. The TR has some of the nicest lines out there. But its is definitely a dog. Im too old now to consider doing it again,, but if I had seen this years ago... I would have done something similar. Have a look at the Auzzy guys who put a Honda engine in an Austin mini. There is a huge youtuber thread based on this build. Look at the huge grins on their face when they finally take it out for a ride. Or search for the TR6 with the cosworth 4 cylinder in it. And watch how well it performs. You bring that one to a show and even the concourse guys would be awe struck.
