I also hated the FXDR. The 114 Fat Bob handles better and is waaay comfier. Perfomance wise, its not going to compete with the Rocket 3 but it still has plenty.

Problem is it's ugly, has too much tech, sounds like a scooter, and rides retarded. That harley is beautiful.

Nothing is more retarded than the Harley comparison to any super cruiser. The Harley has forward foot controls and most super cruisers have mid. Why do you think that is?? Suspension? Do some reading on this Harley and you will see how much it really sux. Even in this video they talk about how bad it is. The R3 will also outperform the Harley in every test. Back to the looks thing... The Harley is beautiful?? You see the bike in person? I have and the intake is comically stupid. Its a big old box of plastic that says 114 on it - THATS ugly AND cheap! The power output is also comical on the Harley... You can keep it :)

Problem is...you can't turn off ugly. That harley is gorgeous. That rocket is not a good looking bike at all. I can't even explain what makes it look like shit, but most people wouldn't look at it twice.

Whipstitch webwork I would. The Harley just looks like a slightly strangely modernised 50’s Harley. And half the appeal of a Harley is they look like Harleys. That one just looks strange. The Triumph looks like a brute.

Right...better to have useless digital gadgets than a comfortable, powerful motorcycle with a V twin. The rocket is plain ugly and looks like a hipster, poser machine. I'll keep my HDs any day...they're simply a much better, more reliable motorcycle.

@@visordown Unfortunatley (i've heard) Arrow won't be making those pipes as they were intended exclusively for the TFC. I'm sure Zard and/or others will make tasty sounding mufflers before long. Oh, and the one and only reason i'd pick the/any H-D over the Triumph is the ridiculous resale value due to the over hype that just won't die it seems :)

@@Larry_Mott Either one will be half price in 4 years. And the market is saturated right now as old baby boomers are starting to sell off their baggers. Now is a great time to buy 'pre-owned' HD, but I still want the Rocket 3, because it just does everything better. HD's are intentionally designed to require way too many expensive 'upgrades' to obtain their potential. It's all included when you buy the Rocket. And I may be wrong, but I bet the Arrow exhaust as well as some of the carbon bits will be available later on (after all the TFC's are sold and gone).

Blair Taylor Good point about half price in 4 years... 2016 RIII is actually approx. half price and defo not half the bike (sounds louder/better and longer range helps compensate for concrete block handling, maybe?)

James Taylor but here’s the thing... I can go to any H-D dealer or small shop and install a bigger engine kit. The M8 engines are seeing up to 200hp in the right hands.

Shaun DuVall but for how much money? The stated mods are all deemed “stage 1” show me where a stage 1 HD can meet these stats.

@@2004sadmanco I used to ride with a guy who had put something like $6,000 into the engine of his 1200 Sportster, and my almost stock VTX1800 whooped that thing's a*s every time, and in every way, even when I was loaded two-up and he was riding solo. All I did to my X was put a Cobra full system on it, install a K&N air filter, install a Power Commander with a custom tune, and beef up the clutch springs. All of which I did for less than $1,500, if I remember correctly...

The Thunderbird Storm is a very cool moto.

The Thunderbird was a good competitor to HD. The only HD model faster than a Third was a Vrod in those years.

The K16B would have made a more interesting comparison.

Harley and Handling are two things that don't go together. Harley handling is still rubbish and behind the times.

Anybody in their right mind would choose the Triumph. As for the engine looking like a tractor? Well, at least is doesn’t perform like one.

The Night Rod and the FXDR are what drew me to Harley Davidson as a brand. If it hadn't been for them, I never would've given Harley Davidson a second look.

The FXDR 0-60 is false advertisement. The Rocket does it in 2.7 and smokes the HD from the hole all the way to the end of the drag strip. Try and race one. Or try to clock that 0-60 and find out for yourself. There's 2 power cruisers , the 1700 Vmax and the Ducati Diavel who actually beat that Rocket on the drag strip. There's many video's and articles where these are compared and tested since they are the top dogs of the current muscle bike generation.

I have a 2019 FXDR as well. Just bought it last week with 55 miles. Bruuuuuh the FXDR is siiiiick!. It's the sexiest bike I've ever seen in my life. I also have a 2011 Vrod Muscle with a power commander,pipes and tune. Bro I will race the FUUUUCCCK out of a Rocket 3. But then again Harley is a premium brand. You don't see Rolls Royces in drag races. Harley is too sophisticated for that ghetto foolery. Triumph makes performance bikes because Noone will buy a Triumph for any other reason. Harley makes sales no matter what they put out. Old,new,fast or slow. BECAUSE THEY'RE HARLEY! 🤘🏽🤘🏽

Key word: technically. In numbers, there are superior bikes than H-D, but numbers aren't all. There's more in life than performance. Performance is a racing mentality, but truth be said, not everyone is avid to race from semaphore A to B. Having racing specs is just a little place to enjoy in the vast world of motorcycling.

....1997 Honda Valkyrie. If anything started the "power cruiser" thing it's that bike. 23 years later, the only bikes that will out run it are the m109 (barely) and the rocket. Oh and of course the vmax/diavel are kinda in their own league.

Because that was a drag race between an FXDR and a Sportster. It was taken from a Harley Davidson ad, so there was no Rocket 3 involved.

The Harley isn't forgettable. It's a great bike. From light to light it will hold with the Rocket. After that, the rocket takes over. But from light to light the Rocket will outrun almost every sport bike. After 100 the sport bikes take over. It's all about perspective. I love my Rocket 3. It has all the power you need and still cruises long distances with the best of them. I don't own and FXDR but I did own a Fat Bob and I loved that bike just as much. Honestly I preferred it for around town riding. Being brutally honest, the old Rocket 3 is probably a better cruiser than the new one. With a little tuning and a good set of lungs it makes just as much power as the new one and although it's heavier, it's more comfortable. For me the biggest knock on the Harley's are the drive belts. As a long hauler, shaft drive is so much easier and more convenient. They last forever with almost no maintenance. They aren't as efficient but when you have the kind of power a Rocket has then they don't need to be. You may technically lose 4-5% efficiency but you aren't losing performance.

As it was two Harleys in the race then the Harley was always going to win.

Ringo, correct on the KZ900 and 1000's. Late '70s my brother gave me his 900, he got the 1000. Back then, if you were on a 900/1000 you were the baddest mofo on the road. Hell, I own a Rocket 3, but I'm looking at hopefully Kawasaki bringing out the 900's again. I'd buy one, just for the nostalgia. Engine with Kerker header, tank, seat, That's it! Lol

While being 6'4" or taller might have other advantages, like some sports, it is not the average rider's height. Most riders, casual and professional are well under 6 feet tall and thats who bikes are designed for. I am exactly 6 feet tall and still feel crammed on some sport bikes.

That's pure crap about resale. Harley's hold value for about 5 years, then drop like a rock and are very hard to sell because the market is flooded with used harleys.

Yeah I tend to agree. I wanted a Fatboy for years but kept putting it off. It was $19,000 configured the way I wanted it. I finally found a new Fatboy in 1999 in Little Rock. When I was driving it home I thought...where's the power. A few months later I trailered it to Sturgis with a friend and his Road King. I was always at the tail end of the pack. Later that fall I sold it. Lost about $6000 after the after-market items I installed on it. I said never again would I purchase a Harley. It leaked oit from the tappet cover gasket of which was made from paper. The shop installed a rubber gasket and wanted to charge me $600 and the bike was still under warranty. They argued about it but I wasn't charged (Garland, Texas store). I wasn't proud of it after the oil leak and eventually bought a Boss Hoss 350 for the next trip to Sturgis. That trip was fun. It had the power. I never again wanted to look at a Harley and I lived a block from a dealership in Allen, Texas. I did get to ride the V-Rod. But I thought it was slow as well. The Harleys look good but lack the modern characteristics of a great bike in any class. Trimuph and Indian have been around longer. Recently, I purchased a new Triumph Rocket GT 3. I love it. It is so masterful built. Everything on that bike looks well built like a Rolex watch. Fast....good lord....No Harley could come close to the speed the Rocket has. The aceleration is off the scale. It is right up there with the Hayabusa or V-Max. The V-Max was ended in 2020. I'm glad I have the Rocket. Harley is loosing customers. The old die hards are dying off and the younger crowd want no part of an ancient technology. Harley better get their act together or they will eventually go out of business.
