Matthew Kiichi Heafy introduces his new signature FretWraps from Gruv Gear, used in all recent shows and studio recording! Now available exclusively at gruvgear.com/m...
They are. Matt’s signature les Paul is so heavy. My friend has one and he has to use a bass strap. I thought my esp e2 m2 is Heavy at 11 Kilos. Sheeeesh. The Matt heafy weights like at least 18 kilos hahahahaha it broke my shoulder
MAB introduced the guitar damper in the 80s when he plays his legendary left-right handed guitar and even four necked ones. Now, we enjoy the benefits of it specially for shredders. Great explanation on the damper though.
Right now I'm using jimmy clips on my axe, and they work pretty well but I still notice some hiss here and there. I'm gonna give these fretwraps a shot and see if it cleans it up even more.
These things are way too expensive for what they are. AUD$25 is nuts. They seriously aren't worth more than AUD$12 . Drop the price and you'll sell thousands more.
Or for free if you have laptop or PC cables and parts boxes.. you can find the velcro from one of the cables and foam from the boxes (cpu, gpu or power supply).
I've never used a fret wrap, does it actually even do anything ? I can't say I've ever thought "oh I need to cover the nut with cloth because it's causing such and such problems" ?
@@mattsolegod haha. Bullshit. It helps getting rid of overtones that happen behind the nut. Regardless of how perfect your technique is. There will be vibrations behind the nut that you cant stop with technique. Thats why those things are important. Especially for high gain players.
@@metalpuppet5798 Does it work like a capo also on the frets? Or its just for the overtones and to stop extra strings ringing out while doing sweeps, legato and tapping etc?
@@BezuMusician no it doesnt. You can pull it further forward if you only play in the higher frets for a solo for example. But it doesnt push down the strings onto the frets
@@metalpuppet5798 Thanks a lot for the reply. Clears my doubts on that aspect. I only do home recordings so I guess this would be a good thing for me to get cleaner recordings and avoid extra notes/ overtones. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the pick noise, basically the "chak chak" sound that comes while recording into Logic Pro X directly through my Antelope Zen Go audio interface using the Line 6 Helix Native plug in? I find that on the higher frets, there's always some pick noise on high gain patches. Somehow I haven't figured out how to get rid of those pick sounds though sometimes they get covered in the mix. Is it a technique issue?
Okay but can I just put this on and leave it on? Will it damage strings at all if kept on when not playing? Should I just remove it after a session? Also, can it be put on ''too tight''? (Mine just arrived in the mail today)
@@birdsaresinners3373 We want signature strings and picks, and signature guitar care products too! How about the signature "Shredmaster" dexterity trainer? You know, the tennis ball that you squeeze with one finger at a time?
Yes. The fret wrap mainly stops the open strings from ringing when doing solos which will happen no matter what kind of tuners or bridge you have. You still need to dampen the little bits of sting at the top of the headstock and the springs on a Floyd rose but a fret wrap doesn’t do either of those. You could use one for the top of the headstock but it’s mainly for open string ringing, not mechanical noise
I mean this in the nicest way, did we need signature fret wraps? Hey gruv gear, if u want to innovate, figure out a way for the wrap to clear my.locking nut when sliding on the fret mboard for a solo and off for the rest f the song.
Thanks Robbie, it's part of Matt's branding initiative and his fans dig them! The product you're describing is already out -- Check www.gruvgear.com/fretwedge which complements FretWraps so you won't even need to slide it over the locking nut. Also most players using FretWraps on locking nuts just place it right over it, and rock it forward to engage, backward to disengage. Hope this helps!
@@TheMadShredder depends on your amp. Left socks for 6L6 and right sock for EL34s. If you're using vsts/modelers, then only a polka dot necktie will do.
I use duct tape on the head and between the TOM and the tailpiece it does the same job but the sliding down for the solos, just learn better to mute the strings its not rocket science.. PRACTICE
exactly and left hand muting. for rythm i get this trick and perhaps for tapping but for solos….hell no, dynamic killer. wat if the solo contains a open note right ;). or more then one open note. everything in the way is something your fighting.
@@adamkatona7784 but some used it tough or a sock in the studio for those mechanical side effects, like dampening floyd string neithe can do harm. i had/have a floyd that would make mechanical noise everytime i muted the strings so i put a piece of foam underneath the springs,so can do no harm then and for rythm parts you can do this wrap technique but you cn also edit the mechanical noise away in post production. live, never use such things like a fretwrap. if it's behind the neck, well yeah nothing can sound f...ed in the mix, but putting that thing halfway. those dynamics will die out due to the push of the wrap. learn how to mute is certainly rule nr 1, then you don't even need such thing, learn to play clean.
@@adamkatona7784 skills wont stop the overtones from happening. They happen behind the nut and can only be stopped if something touches the strings behind the nut. If you got lots of distortion etc this can cause a whole lot of trouble that your technique cant fix.
Not even bragging. He's just telling people who he is so that those who dont know him, know that he has a ton of experience and knows what he's talking about.
Alex Low i don’t want to have to switch shit over. I like switching guitars fast. I use esd foam for muting though. It was much cheaper than these things
@@indymudshow That's like buying a fleet of Lamborghini and driving a Volvo. When asked why you never drive one from your fleet you respond, "Those are just for looking at, I don't drive them, are you crazy?"
Fret wraps? Give me a break!! Learn how to mute strings. That's part of learning how to play a guitar. None of my biggest heroes needed fret wraps, and neither have I, for the last 33 years or so. 😆 A signature fret wrap? It's the same thing as tying an old sock around your neck. 😆
Ringing that comes from behind the nut cant be fixed with any type of skill. Its a vibration that can only be stopped if something touches the string behind the nut.
