I am afraid you will have to check out every single song from the Shogun album. Every single song is absolutely and utterly monumental. Start with the opener definitely. It is just incredibly epic in every way.
ahh shogun was so good! every song is memorable and unique, which might make up for its flaws. in waves has great moments too, but their new stuff since the sin and the sentence... i shit you not, it is god-tier in my book hahah
My personal favs off shogun: shogun, kirisute gomen, of Prometheus and the crucifix, torn between scylla and charybdys, the whole album is really good. Their newish drummer(alex bent) rekindled the trivium flame for me. Their new album is pretty killer imo.
Matt Heafy is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist, he does both screaming and cleans, Corey is the lead guitarist, he does only screaming. Also the bassist Paolo does some clean singing as well
In the studio I believe Matt does all the screaming, Corey only does them live. At least that was the case for their earlier stuff. Corey might scream a bit on the last couple records.
He has his own channel and I'm sure he'd be happy to talk to Geebz about guitar tone and such. I'd cream if they had a conversation on camera and published it for us. ru-vid.com
@@the_verTigO Corey's scream gets easily mistaken with Matt's in recordings IMO, i'm not into recent trivium stuff, but he was on recordings at least until In Waves Album. btw his screams are mostly background ones.
I'd suggest "Down From The Sky," "Like Light To The Flies," or "The Rising". Also, the lead singer, Matt Heafy, livestreams all the time and does tons of online interviews. Maybe have him on for a cup of coffee?
"Like Light To The Flies" is such an amazingly put together song. If you're a guitar player, it's really one of the most fun songs to learn (IMHO). I would add "Caustic Are The Ties That Bind" to your list as well.
Trivium is one of those bands that put out solid albums everytime, and that's impressive being they've been doing it for almost two decades now. They just released their tenth one last friday called "In the Court of the Dragon" and it's full of bangers. Trust me I'd love to give you a list of tracks you should give a listen, but I'd be here all day, so I'll just stick to a few: - Throes of Perdition - Like Light to the Flies - Sickness Unto You - As I Am Exploding - Feast of Fire Those are just random picks, you can't go wrong with whatever other suggestion you get from them, and yes, they are THAT good and consistent. Keep 'em coming uncle Geebz, awwwwright!
Probably there'll be a lot of other comments pointing it out, but Trivium 's songs are very different between each other and especially between each album. They're very creative with the scales and compositional elements of their music, one song I'd recommend you to check out would be either something from their new album they released last week, In the Court of the Dragon, or Shogun, which is considered their most technical album and a fan favorite overall
Even though I do enjoy In Waves, I gotta be honest, this is one of Trivium's more basic songs. They have WAY better music. ANYTHING from their last 3 albums, from Shogun or from Ascendancy will blow your mind and are ABSOLUTELY worthy of your reviews! It's just GREAT music and in my opinion at least, some of THE BEST heavy metal you will EVER hear! 🤘💀🤘
Everybody here talking about Shogun but basically everything from the last three albums is fantastic as well! Check out "in the court of the dragon" for example :)
Matt Heafy is the guitarist/principle vocalist for recording both growls and clean vocals. However, on the later albums Paulo the bassist has begun singing the clean harmonies, while the other lead guitarist Corey does some of the growls.
I can't recall every album, but in the liner for the one that just came out they are all credited for vocals. But it's just kind of a thing that says "Trivium are:" and lists all of what they do in the band, so hard to say whether they were recorded or not.
The first track on this album is just an intro track that leads into “in waves” gives the beginning of the song more of a punch in my opinion. I definitely recommend checking them out together. Even if you’re not going to you tube it. Also if you do more Trivium you should do another from this album “Caustic are the Tides that bind” Highly recommend. Most will probably suggest “Shogun” but I always thought “in waves” was their best album.
Trivium is a high octane band for sure. Been with them since the beginning and they always deliver. Check out 'Like Light to the Flies'. A pretty early track from them back when Matt's vocals were mostly screams and then clean on the chorus. In later albums he would switch that format around, and these days every album is a mix of both. Simply fantastic and very underrated band.
@@rajeevmasilamony8395 Matt records all cleans and screaming vocals on the albums, live they switch parts, Corey does some backup screaming in the studio too. But here and in all of their albums it's Matt who provides both styles
Shogun or Shadow of the Abattoir. Those two are absolutely incredible. Also one of the best things about Trivium are their changes in songs, especially heard in Shogun (song and album) and their last 3 albums, The Sin and the Sentence, What the Dead Men Say, and In the Court of the Dragon. From a production standpoint, I really believe ITCOTD is the best they've ever done.
Geebz!!! I just seen them live in St. Louis MO! My favorite song so far of them! Capsizing the sea is the intro song leading into this one off the album and introduces one of the melodic themes to this song. It’s worthy a listen. Great to see trivium!
Geebs!! You gotta listen to this as a follow-on from the intro track "capsizing the sea"!! Absolutely sets it up amazingly! Keep on doing amazing reviews for us music plebs 🎶😍
One thing I really dig about Trivium is their albums always sound fantastic, from the engineering/mastering side of things, so crisp and clear. Solid band for sure.
I love to see Trivium on the channel! Lots of great stuff from these guys. I'd recommend anything off the Shogun album with my personal favorite being Into the Mouth of Hell. 🤙
Hey!!! Thanks so much for checking out Trivium!! They are one of my favorites bands of all time!!! I'm sure so many have said it, but rightfully so, please check out their albums Shogun & Ascendancy! Also, they just released their 10th album In the Court of the Dragon, and would love to hear your take on those songs. Thanks again!
Two vocalist, Matt lead, Corey backing screams, Paulo backing vocals. All good singers 🙌 you absolutely have to listen to Shogun if you want to get into trivium!
So happy to see you doing Trivium! They're my favourite band, top 2 on my Spotify listened to every year. They merge so many sub genres of metal, taking all the best elements of each, and not many bands do that, let alone to the level they do imo. Honestly anything from their catalogue is worth you covering, but the stuff since Alex joined them on the drums is just getting soooo good nowadays, he was the last part of the band they needed, he's amazing. Give amongst the shadows and the stones, the defiant, the shadow of the abbatoir a try... But I could really suggest many more. I'd have suggest shogun, but everyone will do lol. Very underrated band!
I love watching anyone's reaction to Trivium, the in depth reviews are my favorites. Very much enjoyed your reaction sir. I recommend as much Trivium as your ears can handle lol, they are extremely talented.
Trivium just released a song called The Phalanx. I would highly recommend it features their style perfectly. I love In Waves cause it is so in your face! Trivium wear many hats and you will need to listen to more songs to get a feel as they seem to change their sound a decent amount, at least to my untrained ears. Definitely an amazing band.
Glad you've finally got round to Trivium, and a great one to start with. All of their albums are worth a go simply because each is different from the last, which is what makes Trivium so great is that they're not afraid to try new things, here's a shortlist - Pull Harder from Ascendancy, Pillars of serpents from Ember to inferno, Entrance of the conflagration from Crusade, Into the mouth of Hell on Shogun
Finally some Trivium! They're super diverse for a band that's not completely prog. They always know how to balance heaviness/catchiness and technicality/simplicity. Everyone's gonna ask you to react to their 10 minute epic Shogun along with a bunch of songs from that album, and deservedly so. They also released one of their best albums ever this month, and I know you'll enjoy The Phalanx or The Shadow of the Abattoir off of it, both 7 minute musical journeys.
"Belting"... the term we use for vocals somewhere between screaming and tonal singing... yelling, but with spice :) Just trying to help jeebs! Keep killing it on here!!
Thanks for this Geebz. Trivium was one of those bands that I listened to occasionally a long time ago, but that I haven't listened to in years. Love it. Do some more Between the Buried and Me. I know you have gotten many suggestions for them. They just released a new album (Colors II) and it is my favorite. The last song, Human is Hell, is my new favorite song. It does a great job of calling back to the first Colors album and also summarizing the entire new album.
Trivium was my favorite band in high school. They have so many great songs worth checking out: Shogun, Throes of Perdition, Into the Mouth of Hell We March, Kirisute Gomen, Like Light to the Flies, The Deceived, any song off of their newest album.
My first time viewing your channel and i absolutely love it. Great commentary for a great tune, i used to be a mental trivium fan when younger and hearing you break down the compositon was wicked! Have subbed
Trivium is probably my favortie band. Thank you so much for bringing them in and doing your thing. ...also "hook sandwich" my me laugh so hard. I think you would not be disappointed if you did more from Trivium! and also to suggest again a dissection of "Skyline Divided " by Seven.
I'm a Trivium fan but I'd definitely have picked a different song for you to do! This is one of their 'anthem' songs, I'd love to see you do the song Shogun where they go a lot more progressive Edit: their new album has a few really cool songs too, like Shadow Of The Abattoir and Phalanx
Remember coming across these back in my high school days going into college, back like mid-2000s. So much catalogue to enjoy. Excellent choice, Geebz! Loving the content!
Geebz. Thanks so much for giving trivium some love. Definitely the band that got me into writing music myself. Please do yourself a favor and check out "what the dead men say", "catastrophist", or anything off their new record "in the court of the dragon. Or, go backward and do something off the shogun record or the ascendancy record. Cheers
It's one vocalist that does the screaming and clean vocals, the lead guitarist does a gang vocal in some screamy parts. The vocalist is the rhythm guitarist as well, so he's doing both vocal styles and playing the rhythm guitar. He's, a very skilled individual. He does his practice sessions on live stream sessions on Twitch.
That melody you were talking about is a piano melody that is actually being reprised from the intro track that goes right into this song. It's basically just that melody by itself without anything layered on top of it and goes right into Matt shouting "In Waves". In many of their live shows, they start with that intro, but close the show with this song. So that melody basically bookcases the whole set. (Don't sue me if that is no longer the case, I haven't seen them in a few years.)
Wow, seeing how fast you went into hook mode was a delight, especially because of you popped into it! I think that most people would agree that In Waves isn't Trivium's best album, (even if it's my personal favorite), but most people would absolutely agree that Shogun is their best album. I'd definitely also like to see your reaction to Machinhead some day, and if you do, you should start with something from The Blackening, and then hit up Locust afterwards because of how much the band learned and relearned between those two albums
Almost anything off of Shogun and the latest album is fantastic. The Shadow of the Abattoir is such a fantastic ride to go on. Just found your channel and I am fully enjoying the ride you're going on.
I'll recommend literally the entire Ascendancy album from Trivium, as that's my favorite album of all time, haha! Wish you were recommended to listen to Capsizing the Sea along with In Waves, as it's such a hype intro for the song :) You rock Geebz.
Singers in trivium. Main singer and guitarr player, does Clean and harsh vocals. Second guitarrist does "backup growl" Basist "backup clean" There are some really nice live recording when they just is in a room playing lots of song. Other great trivium songs that I have already seen people suggest, Shogun and Down from the sky.
Love me some hook sandwich 😂 also if no one has requested it yet eventually you should check out "the crusade" by them title track to the album. It's just an instrumental but gets me pumped up everytime 🤟
I really dig what you're doing with these songs. I appreciate the reaction WITH the in depth analysis. I've been in bands writing similar stuff like this and doing God knows how many covers of everything from Jimi Hendrix to Black label society to as I lay dying lol. Almost every time I listen to a song (even songs I've heard a ton) I find something new that keeps me interested and listening. If they're worth a damn, these types of songs don't die, man. Trivium has stood the test of time so far, so they're doing something right. New album just came out. I'd suggest "Like a sword over Damocles" or "A crisis of revelation". I'd love to hear your take on those. Keep up the great work brother! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
For your last 30 days I definitely recommend more trivium! I'd say either Kirisute Gomen, Shogun, Catastrophist, Shadow of the Abbatoir, or The Phalanx!
You need to check out the shogun and in the court of the dragon albums Geebz. Perhaps their best work. Idk how Matt and the gang did it this time around, especially since it had only been a year since WTDMS, but god damnit they did!
Trivium is pretty consistently putting out great music always. Just last week a new album dropped. In Waves was one of my favorite albums for a long time. This is a fun one to play, great rhythms. Check out one off the new album, they added some subtle orchestration and it's pretty cool. "In The Court of the Dragon" or "The Phalanx" are probably interesting to check out as compositions.
Trivium is a phenomenal band. ‘Down From the Sky’ or ‘Throes of Perdition’ are a couple of “hook bombs” of of their greatest album, ‘Shogun.’ They’re a band that’s constantly evolving/switching things up. Their body of work weaves between metalcore, thrash to even some pretty proggy stuff. Really talented band.
I know most people are probably pointing you to shogun, but you need to experience the addition with Alex bent. So I'd say, any of the singles from What the Deadman Say, with Amongst the Shadows and the Stones probably being my favorite. Sin and the Sentence was first album with him, and Court of the Dragon just recently released as well.
Other than the vocal sections that would be obviously difficult to perform by himself, Matt does indeed perform both clean and harsh vocals live. Also, I echo “Shogun” and “Sin and The Sentence” as absolutely stunning albums to dive into for more Trivium reactions.
Ember to Inferno (Ab Initio version), Ascendancy, The Crusade, Shogun are my favorite albums from Trivium from which Shogun is the best. Others are not bad either but I do not personally have anything to say about them.
