Matt Heafy just posted on his page about the passing of Brent Young (bassist on Ember to Inferno and this version of Like light to the flies, he’s the one that appears on this video). Rest In Peace, let this amazing song rock on in his memory.
I remember when this was new and exciting. Good times. I've moved on to more extreme music, but every now and then I come crawling back because I can't help myself, I can't resist. This music formed an era in my life and I get goose bumps just listening to it. Even if my life falls apart I still have this. I wish you an amazing journey through that which will change your life forever.
I didn't know the bass player died, how'd he die does anyone know? A friend of mine just recently turned me on to this band, never heard of them till recently and they're really good. My favorite metal band is iron maiden, I'm open to all kinds of music though, love iced earth also, these guys rock!
@@notaparrot3426 Down picking is the only way I can play it lol. Never even tried alternate. I can't do the needed string transitions in this song when alternating.
Lyrics Behold our beloved revels In tragedy (In tragedy) Self-denying abhorence for bloodshed Behold hypocrite Those who run will be burned (4x) Devoutly wished for blinded eyes This tragedy's like light to flies This seems to suit you better Bleeding out the eyes (Bleeding out the eyes) Hope's left in chain suspension Holding onto lies to make the truth Behold our beloved revels In tragedy (In tragedy) Self-denying abhorence for bloodshed Behold hypocrite Those who run will be burned (4x) Devoutly wished for blinded eyes This tragedy's like light to flies This seems to suit you better Bleeding out the eyes (Bleeding out the eyes) Hope's left in chain suspension Holding onto lies to make the truth Devoutly wished for blinded eyes This tragedy's like light to flies This seems to suit you better Bleeding out the eyes (Bleeding out the eyes) Hope's left in chain suspension Holding onto lies to make the truth (2x)
Not dissing travis but this is not his best performance, the double kicks are very unclean and didn’t really feel like he got control over them. The ascendancy cut is much better
I’ve been listening to Trivium since Ember. I literally love every song they have produced. This is still my favorite song of all time, probably because of nostalgia, but regardless I always find myself coming back to watch this video. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
One of the greatest metal songs ever. I remember hearing/seeing it on a Metal Hammer DVD. The solos are perfect, the structure is amazing. Just blew me away.
I'm new to this band, and I keep seeing that people are mad about the change in their sound on their new record, but I personally enjoy it more. Don't get me wrong, I like this too! And I love metalcore, but I appreciate that the singer has pushed his vocals to the next level and I think the new vocals and better writing of their songs has made them heavier, and way more technical. Those are things I greatly appreciate. RANT OVER :P
Yea man it's much more progressive but people are pissed off with the production just because it isn't as technical as shogun which is regarded amongst most fans as their best work all their music is subjective and fans are always in conflict about their best work I mean if anything shit like the drums have stepped up much more much tighter
Matts vocals have definitely improved since then his cleans are one of the best in the metal community elitists would disagree but fuck it I'm gonna say that
The reason for doing so is because it makes it easier to complete more technical parts with little to no errors. Wearing your strap super low is pretty pointless
@@AnthonyTLKR exactly what i was about to say man. Wearing the strap too low just makes it harder to position your hands correctly.. unless you're like alexi laiho
@@AnthonyTLKR 100% correct. I've played for 2 years with low positioned guitar, it just makes you look cool. Played for 5 more years and I was able to do impossible things on high strap that you cannot do on the other.
The convergence and divergence of musical details @1:35~3:02 is so underrated, from the flow. It is quite unbelievable how an inspiration can be stretched marginally speaking. I am glad we had tools today that can visualize this chord progression.
@@spudfella4937 He still kills it, he just approaches his vocals from a well-trained and professional manner now, especially to preserve his voice. I got to see them for the first time live back when they touring Shogun. His screams were beastly, but as the man himself said, he had no idea what the fuck he was doing and ended up destroying his voice. He took time to heal his voice and get proper vocal training while they did the Vengeance Falls and Silence in the Snow album where Corey did most the screams. Nowadays, Matt is back to doing both with Corey doing backing screams and Paolo doing backing cleans 🤘
@@DimiusG I'm happy that he's learnt to shield his vocal chords, but there's definitely something special to those raw, throat-tearing screams. You can tell someone's messing up their throat cause' you still hear a bit of their underlying talking-voice character in the scream. I hope no vocalist actually thinks it's worth it to damage their voice permanently, but I can definitely appreciate the pain that Matt put himself through to produce these vocals.
People, the version of the song used in the video is the demo, that's why it sounds different. Woulda been better if it was the Ascendancy version for sure, though.
Los ví el domingo en el knosfet chile Espectaculares,la cagaron sin palabras Suenan muy bien en vivo ,son todo unos profesionales ,y tocan igual Matt tiene la misma voz en vivo Sin duda una joya de banda
I remember when I was 12 I saw this music vidoe/song and I laughed so hard at the screaming because I had never heard that kind of singing before but within half a year trivium were my favourite band, and I couldn't wait for their new album to come out (the crusade) but I was a bit disappointed in it, but I was constantly going to get disappointed after ascendancy because ascendancy was too good - nothing they make will ever be as good as it
Literally the song that got me into this band... I remember picking up a quick demo clip on xbox 360, basically 8 years ago, and contemplating the couple bucks for the full vid... Glad I did, haven't looked back and keep love the music since.
The guitar playing is really solid here especially for their age at the time, but it's crazy to see how far their playing has evolved. The solos on Shogun make this look like the solo for Smells Like Teen Spirit. They've gone from prodigies to full-on virtuosos.
+myztklk3v I actually prefer this version, the Demo version. I think that might be because I love Ember to Inferno too much so I love the Vocals in this version lol.
It was a demo. This was when Roadrunner asked them for some new material to see if they would be suitable for their label and they came up with this and a couple other songs AND filmed this music video to really impress Roadrunner. They were almost instantly asked to join the label when Roadrunner saw all this
