Trivium - Kirisute Gomen It's heavy, it's about samurai right to kill and leave when offended, it has one of the heaviest riff in metal and vocals are great.
See this is easier to listen to. I don't always want to listen to heavy math metal shred guttural complicated death devil kill beatdown music. Sometimes you just want easier unchallenging Metal.
James McClellan unchallenging Is one thing. This feels empty. I personally find great daily with this entire genre. But I’m very biased being a musician and having a more complex ear. I can appreciate and enjoy “simple” but this and other bands like this feel void of anything for me.
Well, truth be told, I don't really dig Trivium. Most of their songs are void of that something. I feel the same way about Alter Bridge or many many Core bands. But that's quality of songwriting. Not the genre. Sevendust for instance is a band, in the same basic genre as Trivium, but have a much greater command of music theory. They can be quiet and contemplating, or vicious and brutal or any thing in between. They can get all complicated with weird time signatures changing here and they can write a standard 4/4 opening/verse/chorus/close song, complete with melody, counter melody and harmony. All the while being as heavy as any djent band. I like that. I also like Meshuggah or Gojira or Code Orange or any number of bands in any number of genres. I like clean vocals and good audible guttural vocals as well. But just listening to Black Metal or Death metal and thinking anything else is shit because they don't sweep three times every freaking bar is just narrow minded childishness.
James McClellan I think someone could argue that Trivium is the more complex band. I've always thought of Sevendust as more "radio-rock" than Trivium. Trivium's older songs were not radio friendly songs like this one(the most radio friendly song they've possibly ever made), and they've always been complex. They do have a formula, but they change it enough every time for me and they do something different on every album as far as themes. A lot of Sevendust just sounds samey to me though a lot of their music is hard to listen to for me so I haven't explored quite all of it.
Dirk Diggler Can't tell if you haven't heard other songs by Trivium or not but this one isn't a good example of them. Still a good song though for what it is. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it's not good. Also, just because something is simple doesn't mean it's not good. A simple song can still be unique. Your comment comes across as extremely arrogant.
The song was inspired by an article Trivium bass guitarist Paolo Gregoletto read about Japanese-American troops in World War II. The soldiers were fighting for the US in brutal battles, when their family was locked up back home in Japanese internment camps. He explained to TeamRock: "The federal government rounded them up because they looked like the enemy that they were fighting. And I'm like, 'This is insane to think about - these guys are literally dying and fighting for a country that's locked up their families at home.' The whole thing is, what does it take to prove you're one of us. And that is powerful to us. If my family was locked up, I wouldn't fight for the country, and that was really inspiring to read about those stories. But I didn't think it would be easy to translate that, so we boiled it down further: what would it take for you not to hate someone? Would it take them dying for you, or their family dying, or being locked up? But I think the core of it is how hard it is to change people's minds when they hate something, or when they hate someone."
They didn’t round up Japanese Americans because they looked like the enemy. Japan had spies in America and the government refused to take chances on another Pearl Harbor incident. It wasn’t sinister like you make it out. That being said, there were injustices that happened. Show me a war that has ever happened that bad shit didn’t occur
Obvioisly anything off Shogun is a better reaction. So if you return, maybe Shogun or Into The Mouth of Hell We March or Kirisute Gomen. Literally any song haha
I have to agree...the way the vocals changed from melodic to rage to gutteral to reflect the appropriate level of emotion in a given song to match the musical intensity in any given song is what keeps me coming back to Shogun over and over again. By far the best showcase of their range so far in my opinion. Definitely need a reaction from this one!
You guys MIGHT be able to get Matt on here.. Hes an awesome dude and very interactive with his fans with his youtube/twitch thing and stuff like that... Might be in the realm of possibility
Great band. Musically and lyrically. Matt’s YT and Twitch are pretty fun. Glad you saw my IG tag. I hope Matt reaches out. The guy is such a talented and nice dude. Their live shows are always full of energy. Glad you came back to them again.
VinAnd Sori you're very welcome! Keep up the good work! Always good to wake up to a new reaction vid from you two. I can always expect an in depth, from the heart assessment from you guys and as you both know I absolutely love and respect it. Don't ever change!
Literally anything off this album or Shogun would be great to give a listen. Beyond Oblivion, The Wretchedness Inside or The Revanchist from this album or Down From the Sky, Throes of Perdition, or Of Prometheus and the Crucifix from Shogun. Those songs in my opinion have the best lyrics.
Oh I'm not even talking favorites, because Betrayer and Sever the Hand along with Beyond Oblivion are definitely my favorites. I just think those three have the better lyrics
Trivium’s sound evolves with every album. My favorite song from them is Kirisute Gomen. If I had to listen to just one song for the rest of my life, I would have to pick Kirisute Gomen.
I forget where i read/heard it (maybe on Octane radio when they were "spoiling" the album before its official release) but I think it's called the heart from your hate because he wants to kill the hate in people. Like, if you were to rip out a person's heart, they would die. Similarly, "ripping" the heart out of someone's hate would kill the hatred they have for whatever/whoever it is that they hate.
I don't get why more ppl aren't suggesting this instead of shogun, can't really see vin and sori getting into shogun that much however gunshot and pull harder were the songs that introduced me to trivium
shannon kinnaird those 2 and like light to flies are like the trinity of must listen trivium songs, all from ascendancy. Do those first and then move on imo.
Literally the first three Trivium songs I learnt to play, makes me sad that they've analysed loads of Triviums weaker stuff but nothing off this album which I still consider their best
This was the radio song of the album. It's the most catchy and also the most repetitive but still really good. Love the play on words and his voice is powerful as always. Revanchist is the song you really need to hear on this album. It's a really diverse record.
Vin. You said they got the title wrong but I believe you are mistaken. I think they are saying they want to literally rip the person's heart out as that is the only way for their hate to cessate
To add to what David said, it's not an easy task to make someone stop hating. If someone's really caught up in their anger it's almost impossible to stop them from doing what they're doing. Hence the "what will it take?" He knows that it's an impossible task so he desperately and plainly asks the person how he can possibly change something that's part of their core.
Vin and sori. Please check out the official video for "you only live once" by suicide silence. Also, the official video for "badlands" by In Hearts Wake. Both videos are incredible
Vin and Sori, one of the many things I like about your channel is discovering new bands. This is the first time I have heard of Trivium. I really enjoyed this song and reaction. Reading other people’s comments I will be checking out some of their older stuff. I’m closer to your score Sori. A 9 for me.
I agreed with sori. Me as a drummer , I'm a huge fan of very drum driven or great breakdown songs are always my jams. Those are songs that I'm geared to listen to and enjoy the most. Great reaction.
Congrats on 30,000 subs it's well deserved. On side note I wanted to complement you guys on last nights fireside about Maynard. It's rare this day and age to have conversation on important social issues without it devolving into people hurling insults at each other. it was incredibly intelligent and mature with some very good points made on both sides of the topic. Great job keep up the good work and I look forward to the next one. If you do Iced Earth Dante's Inferno is awesome but if you don't want to listen to a 16 min song, Phantom of The opera or Melancholy of the Holy Martyr is really good.(it's about how Jesus felt on the cross.
Congrats for the 30k! The Internet is sure in need for a voice of wisdom and You give that...If you have interests in Greek mythology check out He Who Spawned The Furies by Trivium from the Shogun album...that whole album is a masterpiece mixed between Japanese culture and Greek mythology, You can literally choose any song and won't be dissappointed both musically and lyrically
Vin and sori 🤘🏻I was waiting for a reaction on this song. Its one of my fav on the album also Trivium is one of fav bands of all time. Do check the rest of the songs on this album - Beyond Oblivion (is anthemic), The wretchedness inside, sever the hand, beauty in the sorrow.
Telos by Between The Buried and Me :D Love you guys! Vin, love the deep thought provoking discussions you’re willing to dive into. That’s the same way I go about music. Sori, love the excitement, expressions, energy, and sometimes shock/sadness you’re willing to show on camera. Your channel is unique and I always find myself coming back to your videos! Keep up the awesome content :) oh, and do a Telos video ;)
This song is in the bottom half in terms of greatness on their newest album "The Sin and The Sentence". I recommend checking out any other song on this album, or maybe something off of Shogun.
The song was inspired by an article Trivium bass guitarist Paolo Gregoletto read about Japanese-American troops in World War II. The soldiers were fighting for the US in brutal battles, when their family was locked up back home in Japanese internment camps.
You said there's a lot of diversity in metal, tbh there's a lot of diversity in that Trivium album, it is amazing, if I were to suggest a few Trivium songs I'd say Thrown Into The Fire, Beyond Oblivion, Becoming The Dragon, Inception Of The End and Through Blood And Dirt And Bone, but honestly just about any Trivium song is a great one to check out. Keep it up!
Hello! Another great reaction and review. You guys are awesome and I love the dynamic between you two. Honestly, a little bit envious of your guys's relationship lol. But I enjoy it to the fullest and that's why I keep watching. I really want to recommend the song by A Perfect Circle called Talk talk. I know you've been doing a lot of Maynard lately and I really love this song and would like to hear your guyses take on it. Thank you so much for what you do for all of us out here listening and watching. Keep it up and have a great day!
You guys should totally react to the whole record, several youtubers have already and the album is very varied and covers many of the sounds of metal, but every song is high quality!
The singer did cover a piano version of this song on his RU-vid channel, there's no scream at all in that one, it's worth to check it out on your free time. :] (His RU-vid is "Kiichi chaos")
Best of soft Trivium: Of All These Yesterdays Best of heavy Trivium: Thrown into the Fire or Throes of Perdition You should also check out something from Mark Tremonti's (of Alter Bridge) newest album A Dying Machine. I personally love Throw Them to the Lions.
Good song but Trivium has a lot of great songs from their older stuff I think you guys would love Shogun the song off the same album, 11 min pure lyrical masterpiece. Trivium is my favorite band and they have great songs with amazing meanings and then some that are just heavy and their new album is great but Ascendancy and Shogun are just amazing albums EDIT: Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr is probably their most well known song, and I really think you guys would love that song as well EDIT: Down From The Sky, Rain, Kiristue Gomen (All Trivium songs)
If you want to here Maria do a good duet, you should listen too In This Moment, The Promise. Trivium is awesome! Always evolving while maintaining integrity!
You guys should try doing a video for the band Arsenic Addiction. They’re a local band in the SLC area. The reason I say this is because their music is heavy and catchy, and the singer is amazing. Also, they’re gothic metal, so it would be something fairly different. Keep up the good videos
In the deleted Gospel of Judas, Jesus tells him he HAS to go and betray him for his plan to work, it was an act of loyalty that he begged not to DO! Whoa... kinda changes to narrative and exposes the hidden agenda of those who censored the bible and started deleting gospels.
Love you Sori! Bringing the emotional insight again! I'm the same. I struggle to seperate who I am from what I've done, and struggle with letting myself be a child of God. Here's a thing for ya. You were predestined before time began to he an adopted daughter of Christ, Co Heir to throne of heaven. You are litterally a princess! That is your identity!
I think you guys should give a listen to Unleash The Archers (The Coward's Way or The Matriarch) or Heaven Shall Burn (Godiva, Corium, or Hunters Will Be Hunted). I love both of those bands and I think any of those songs I suggested would lend themsves to some decent discussion
I dunno if these guys are on your list yet, but a reaction to Allegaeon-Grey Matter Mechanics (Full Band Playthrough) would be awesome. No one else sounds like they do with mixing spanish guitar and progressive death metal. Sort of in the same way Ne Obliviscaris mixed classical violin and progressive death metal. People will say 1.618 from them, which is a hilarious video, but thats more of a video for another channel IMO. You guys like the lyrics. Another good one for you from them would be Proponent for Sentience: The Extermination (also a playthrough video).
Please check out Hypocrisy-dead sky dawning or adjusting the sun! Carcass is also good, either blood spattered banner or captive bolt pistol, those are some good songs from them.
Iced Earth - A Question of Heaven!! My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours Katatonia - Brother Hypocrisy - The Final Chapter Immolation - A Glorious Epoch
Wow im early. Man it be fucken great if you did some Dimmu Borgir cuz im seeing them August 23 in Toronto. The Sacrilegious Scorn(2007), Gateways(2010), or Interdimensional Summit(2018) are all great songs.
This is their "radio song" from Sin and the Sentence. If you want to stick with this album (and this drummer) go with - Beyond Oblivion Betrayer Sever the Hand Wretchedness Inside The Revanchist
Since the Orion video I feel like you guys would enjoy Polyphia - G.O.A.T. for underground. I think you'd appreciate the feel, aesthetics and musical articulation. Loving the reviews and analysis you two!
Polyphia is awesome. BUT I feel if you are gonna start in that space, you start with the guys who really drove that sort of music forward..Scale the Summit. I'd recommend Atlas Novus, or The Kestrel. Both very evocative songs despite being instrumental.
Khellendross I must admit I haven't listened to them and know little on the history of this style(?dont think genre is the right word) of music composition. I enjoy polyphia because it seems that every album represents a specific genre and with the latest single it really gets me excited for the upcoming album. The minors and the heavily classical styling at least of the single is very refreshing especially in the instrumental compositions classification.
Chris Black I'll definitely be checking them out. Angel Vivaldi was what initially got me into this type of musical composition. But I have listened to Plini, and Chon a good amount.
The quote: "What if the person constantly doubts themselves or hates themselves" pretty much describes me. Anyways I found your breakdown very interesting
😮 fuck yes!! trivium🙌🏻 guys trivium is the greatest band no jk, i wish they would do more trivium u all will really fkn like it!! they should do thrown in the fire now🙏 it will shade u to ur core its heavy as all hell!!
Everyone screams Shogun, there are many, many good Trivium songs besides that one. One of the good things about Trivium is they are constantly changing vocally and instrumentally. No one CD of theirs is the same. They all deserve exploration.
For contrast I would check out anything from their Shogun record or if youl want a more recent yet completely different sounding track then it would have to be "Thrown Into The Fire" which is probably their most "Trivium" sounding track off their new record. This is a catchy track but definitely a single & one of only 3 songs on that record that don't quite do it for me.
I believe this song was inspired by watching documentaries on Japanese american internment camps and the japanese american soldiers that were fighting for the states while their families were internment camps and just asking the question what does it take as a country to let the hate go.
There's a name for it: Airplay oriented Rock. And in this case it's totally fine to me if it plays on the radio. It's enough to be catchy, but not distracting too much. Actually, ANGEL WITCH "Angel Witch" is a little like that, but then the guitars electrify you and you're so hooked you can't do different than to shout along and bang. As many kudos I give you for doing VEKTOR as I could discover something new I want to actually hear more from and I'm appreciating your opening up to explore new metal territory, even if you think "nobody knows them" which in my opinion is perfect, as that is how you learn about the 90% of metal's diversity you haven't touched yet, I totally agree with you that it can't be artistic and progressive all the time, especially in Rock'n'Roll.
I have a list five finger Death punch song's I think you guys would really enjoy. I apologise Remember everything Devil's own Under and over it Coming down Walk away Cold The tragic truth Succubus. These are all very good songs I suggest you react to one.
Theocracy - Nailed. Just do it... BTW I tried logging into the website, keeps saying I must check the box saying I'm a human...and it IS checked. Still working the bugs out?
