Trivium - The Phalanx | EnterTheCronic's FIRST TIME REACTION  

Their last 3 records (2017-2021) have all been pretty awesome, They're best "older" works for most people would likely be anything from their "Ascendancy" or "Shogun" records (2005 & 2008, respectively). Although their 2011 record "In Waves" also has some bangers for sure.

The addition of Alex Bent to Trivium took the band to another level. The video for “In The Shadow of the Abattoir” is amazing. Really great. “The Sin and the Sentence,” is also amazing. Matt Heafy is the main singer, and also a huge gamer. Does lots of music for games, and has his own Twitch channel.

A live song from Trivium worth checking out is "Like a Sword Over Damocles" or "Down From The Sky" because they highlight alot of the band, also the main vocalist Matt Heafy isn't the "main" soloist but he also does solos. The drummer Alex Bent joined the band in 2017 and on every song on the past 3 albums he has been going absolutely insane. And in live performances both guitarist and bassist all do vocals with Matt Heafy doing both cleans and growls, lead guitarist Corey Beaulieu doing growl/harsh vocals and bassist Paolo Gregoletto doing clean vocals.

I remember seeing live, they were amazing. They also played with 2 great metal bands too though so that helps. Mudvayne and as I lay dying.

I absolutely adore this band. I've been following them for about 18 years now. I love all ten of their albums and I've seen them 10 times live. If you want to listen to more of them, i could happily recommend a lot of songs. I mean, I don't think there is a bad song so take your pick. But to pin point a few highlights, their 2nd album 'Ascendancy' was the album which catapulted them to the top of the metal scene and I'd recommend 'Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr' which is a clear fan favourite as they played it at all 10 shows i've seen. Then fast forward to album 4, 'Shogun', that album is often cited as one of their best and whilst I personally have a great love for the song 'Shogun', a more easily accessible track from that album is 'Down From the Sky." On to album 5 'In Waves', the title song 'In Waves' is a classic and easily the best track to watch live as I have never failed to see a crowd loose their minds to it. There is a fairly decent quality video of 'In Waves' Live at Resurrection Fest 2019. Their 7th album 'Silence in the Snow' is unique in that Matt Heafy, the vocalist lost his voice and had to retrain himself to sing. He is a much better singer for it, but he couldn't scream on that album, so it's all clean. But by album 8, he still had his excellent clean vocals and the triumphant return of his growls. So album 8 'Sin and the Sentence' is worth a look, especially it's title track. This was also the first album with new drummer Alex Bent who is an absolute powerhouse. My heart then says go to album 10 ''In the Court of the Dragon' and listen to my favourite track from my second favourite album which is 'The Phalanx', but you just did that. So instead, after 'Sin and the Sentence' go to album 9 'What the Dead Men Say' and check out a track called 'Catastrophist', that is an epic song too and then you will have heard a song from all 3 of their recent albums which are all amazing albums and a huge step in the right direction for the band. Also whilst i'm here, I just want to say that guitarist and vocalist, Matt Heafy has a very successful twitch career too, and there is a video of him talking his twitch chat through an old demo of this song. The final product released in 2021, but the majority of it was written for, but not used on 'Shogun' from 2008. The video is interesting because the middle part originally was an epic section which got cut from the demo and was inserted into a great song called 'Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis' which did make it onto the 'Shogun' album. Thankfully, they held on to the start and end of that demo and it became the Phalanx. But it's a great video to watch because you can see how they have evolved as a band and how this 15 year old demo came back to be used in what is in my opinion one of their best songs ever.

This era of Trivium with Alex Bent is their best IMO (joined the band for Sin and Sentence album) but you should definitely checkout the Shogun album

Trivium is an interesting band for me. They hit all the genres and sounds I like but, for the most part, I just can't get in to them. Whether it's the flow, the song writing or something else entirely I just don't have an ear for them. Meanwhile, throw me a Polish black metal band who I have no idea what they are talking about and I'm totally in to it. Except The Phalanx. Everything about it is just so amazingly good. The sound, the pace and the lyrics come together to form an epic experience. Music is complicated!
