Fair enough, have never listened to horns before so can't comment. Similar to Open Baffles once heard, hard to go back to boxes ( my next project :-) )
I am interested in building these speakers but need the crossover values for all capacitors, inductors and resistors. Are you willing to share this data with me?
Hi! Sorry it doesn't feel right to do so. I get where you are coming from but suggest if you go active you will not need a passive crossover, just the rest which Troels Gravesen provides. Cheers.
Hi! Difficult question to answer. To start with the Discovery 861 was my first build, a test, a trial to get my feet wet. I enjoyed the build and was surprised how good they sounded. I then went mad and bought the Revelator 851, a more challenging build but a few levels up from the 861, in sound. The 3wc-10 was a project and not intended to replace the Revelators. I challenged myself by re-designing the cabinet ( a lot of work to get right ) All 3 have a smooth top end but not sure that they are as I am in my 70's and have lost high frequencies in my hearing. Midrange on the Revelators are really good. The 3wc-10 have better bass extension than the Rev's, dare I say the 3wc-12 and -15's would be very nice, giving you a more fuller sound. ( add the Fusion in that lot as well ) My favourite is the Revelators and they should be , at the cost... I just think they could use a bit more sparkle in the top end, for me anyway. Cheers.
Soft dome, that's how the kit came as I did not buy direct. I spoke with Troels Gravesen about buying the BE and replacement components for the crossover. Did not recommend it, the cost would out way the performance. When I did the calculations I also thought to be excessive. Bought direct with the BE might of been different. To note I would be happy to find a pair with the BE to listen to and compare 🙂
Cruisen300: Nice speakers. Ok, which to you prefer, the Faital 3WC or the Revelator 851? I can't judge over the RU-vid sound channel but you're right there.
Actually I recorded another sound demo with the 3wc's last night and hooked up the 851's to do AB test . Well that sure tells the difference between the two. Okay the 3wc's have more rounded bass ( not boomy ) the 851's are less but tighter/faster. The high frequencies stand out on the 851's, more detailed , clearer ( but then it has the Illuminator tweeter, so it should ) 851's smoother in presentation where the 3wc is more dynamic . You need to take into consideration the different price point, the 851's should sound better and they do...Hope that helps. ( The 851's are a keeper )
