I'm looking for a bluetooth speaker 300$ or under that is still considered "portable" that does well down to at least 40hz, is the Tribit stormbox blast a good option? Which is best in that range? You are the only person on yt I've come across that actually put a lot of effort into these reviews including frequency response graphs Please let me know, thank you.
stormbox blast goes quite deep but not as deep as the boombox 3 or PartyBox encore, its more like 50hz while the jbls will do 45hz but dont get wrapped in in a finite number, its the amount of bass and how rolled off it is that counts. ultimately the encore and boombox sound deeper.
👍 This was insightful. Going all analytical on Tronsmart. I learned a few things. The tuning is similar to the T7 - wavy, mid bass heavy, little bass adjustment across volume. It's looking like they went for the same tuning across all their current speakers. I could be wrong though 🤣
Hi Alan, in the past videos you've categorised the sound of rave neo and mifa wildbox as faster/agile sound. could you mention the speakers below 1.5kg that have faster/agile sound?
@@TheAscendedTechNinja yeah, usually it is garbage Polaroid Bluetooth speakers and such. If I ever walk into Ross and see soundcore, I am snatching that up.
I too am a low bass aficionado. I will say thought that overall I really liked the Tronsmart far better than the Rave Neo at 60%. I think it's the more open sound up in the highs. Sounds like it has a little bit of a sound stage too at least at whatever distance you recorded at. Are those mid tweeters stereo? The highs on the Rave Neo just don't sound very good to me... Actually, I don't know what is wrong with me but at least with your recordings, the Tronsmart sounds far warmer and pleasant than I expected from the Freq response measurements.
@@alanrossreviews hah, that is odd for sure. I use a pair of popular but inexpensive Sony closed headphones that have a profile in soundID reference or whatever the software is called. I don't remember the model number of the cans. They are reasonable flat when using the correction software. Soundstage is... Average.
Good video as always! Personally I don't like any of Tronsmart's speakers as they all sound a bit too wavy and upper bass oriented. I have one of their older products (the Tronsmart element force) and it sounds horrible especially in bass mode as it distorts. Anyway I won't be buying any of their products again unless they make some big changes!
I’m late but let’s go Alan. Idk anyone who doesn’t love when when they get a notification that “Alan Ross has uploaded a video 🎉🎉🎉 Watched the whole thing as always 🤪. Conclusions for me are….. Can someone please teach Tronsmart how to make/tune a speaker??? it’s getting embarrassing now. The bass on the Halo kinda reminds me of the video you did with Audio Pro c3 a year or 2 ago. Got some deep bass, but missing some oomph because of that roll off. Motion Boom still holding it’s own in 2023 💪🏾. Still P4P small boombox champ Does the Extreme 3 still got that 12-13 KHz peak??? As always another amazing video, and another to add to my playlist ☺️☺️☺️
@@alanrossreviews Yeah the Halo and c3 shouldn’t even be in the same convo tbh. The sound quality between the two ain’t even comparable 😭 These companies always finding a way to just fu** something so basic like the volume sync or not playing too loud. If ain’t one small thing it’s another, next thing you know you got 50+ speakers 🤪🤪
You need to grab the onn gen 2 speakers. Mid and large. They are phenomenal for the money they cost. 89 for the mid, 119 for the large. 119 for the lpsgen2 is just stupid good value.
i dont do this because everyones tastes, requirements and usage is different. i add a list of speakers that are ok to each video in the description. My speakers of choice for me personally are tribit stormbox blast, soundcore motion bioom, soundcore motion plus, marshall stockwell 2, soundcore boost, b&o a1 first gen.....and others depending on needs.
@alanrossreviews Thank you so much, Alan, for your help! I really appreciate it. The speakers you recommended seem a bit larger than what I'm looking for. I'm currently exploring options like the JBL Charge 5 and Motion+ which are smaller in size. My primary usage will be indoors for my PS5 and PC for gaming, music, podcasts, etc., typically at lower volumes around 40-50%. Could you please share your thoughts on whether the Motion+ still lacks a significant amount of bass?
@@alanrossreviews yes they are connwcted via Bluetooth. Currently using the jbl go 3 and i am good with latency. Is this bigger on the motion+, boom or charge 5?
@@alanrossreviews Hi again. I finally got the charge 5 and Guess what. I still feel that its lacking bass on low volumes. 🤣 It seems I have to go to bigger speakers. Have you tried the trosmart halo 100?
@@alanrossreviews i mean for 57 usd is it worth it? Or there are better speakers than this under 60 dollars? Thanks for replying, Love your reviews btw❤️
This thing sound off asf, ngl, surprise by how well still the woofer holded up against the giant PR to produce any bass at all kek. BTW, Mr.Alan in what way will factor a driver to be, like, a tweeter, woofer, full-range? Like i get confuse, because too me those main "tweeters" look like full-range drivers to me even if the response is measure high couldn't those still be considered ones, looking at the form-factor?
@@ThibautMahringer well i consider fullrange but yeah basically that, same opinion about the frequency range. Woofers are more bass focus than fullrange (full spectrum uproach? )
@@asunavk69 Fullranges and Woofers use the same drivers, but the difference is in what frequency they play. Fullranges are playing the whole spectrum (20hz - 20 000hz) Woofers do not play the treble (20hz to 2 000/3 000hz), because there's a tweeter for that. And sometimes, woofers can be used as tweeters, for some reason.
i really dont understand what they have done here. the larger tweeters seem to play above the mid tweeter yet are larger so youd expect it the other way round. they dotn seem to be playing lower as in woofers or fr drivers.
@@alanrossreviews Well I expected nothing but I am still quite disappointed by this speaker... While it's better than other Tronsmart speakers, it's still underwhelming to me. Especially the passive radiator not being tuned right. And the massive peaks pretty much everywhere. I guess I was right lol, no deep bass and messed up mids and treble. Not worth the money at all 🙅♂️ Nice try though, they are (very) slowly going in the right direction
if they dropped the price by say £20 they would be doing ok at that price point, it comes into its own at over 80% as it doesnt limit there like the others
@@alanrossreviews For my use, maximum volume is useless, I mostly (always) use my speakers under the point where their bass limits. 👍 But for people who actually use max volume, it may be alright, but the tuning is still quite off 🤪
Not big enough unfortunately! I know it's a bit of a niche request, but do you have something more suitable for blasting early morning air-raid sirens outside of sleepy Russian embassies? Asking for a friend ... lol
With that whole audiophile thing... I have a setup that is tuned to flat at my listening position at work (well only gets down to 30 hz on the low end that is). Most people would really be underwhelmed by a true flat response at the listening position. I run a Dolby target curve on it when editing and when just listening for fun I even boost the lows a little more.
I think it really comes down to what you are trying to achieve and the type and quality of your tracks. The mix and master if aimed at mainstream are never meant to be heard flat. Niche audiophile recordings however can be a better match simply because they assume thats how you will listen. So imho this whole flat frequency fad is either self defeating or self reinforcing depending on your music choice.
Alan this is Lil off topic but remember those insmy m226 speakers I said ya gotta get... mam mine all of sudden started cutting out when I play music on em... emailed the company who sold em to me Keke usa I bought them on June 5 then the 2nd on on the 8th of june.. paid like 20 fn bucks for em so sent an email telling them what's Goin on she sent back asking me to take video of it I sent bacj I can't cuz only thing I got to play music on em is my phone so can't record and play music at same time amd offered to send then back to them as I know they're defective.. alan.. they're sending me two brand new ones... that's pretty badass man and still love those Lil speakers.. just had to share that with ya and on sidenote bought a jbl emcore essential took it back two days later battery life killed it for me and today should have the soundcore rave party 2 showing up
@Alan Ross Reviews I did but thought I'd be alright with it but then I got to thinkin if I'm at lake this summer and around a fire or on pontoon etc I don't wanna have to plug it in... Alan tho ima double down here on something... the soundcore rave party 2 is fn special man I ain't kidding I hated the rave + if you'd eq in their app sound went to shit only real product from soundcore I hated this rave party 2 tho is a Lil beast I hope eventually they send ya this cuz I truly think it's a special speaker
@Alan Ross Reviews rave neo 2 I took back same day was thinkin about grabbing 2 of those cuz they were on sale for 119 I was not impressed but then ordered this rave party 2 and this is the one I've been looking for... till the next one ahahahaha
Its sad that new companies have 0 inovation and originality.. they always have to take a used build and try to make it better, instead of making something special and making it more attracting to buy
Tribit released XSound Mega in China. And it is ratwd as THE BEST SPEAKER EVER according to a Chinese bluetooth speaker reviewer. They say it's much better than Soundcore Motion+. Would you test the so called king of cheap bluetooth speaker Tribit?
@@alanrossreviews Thanks Alan, I see it and really appreciate you have made video about it. It is a shock to me that MEGA released in overseas over a year ago.
@@zhidanyang1045 Maybe they truly think it's the best ever, but they have not listened to a lot of speakers lol Seriously, to me Xsound Mega and Charge 5 are the best speakers for their size, but ultimately, they are still limited by their small size. There's bigger and better speakers out there
That the PR is tuned to 45 Hz isn't that surprising. For the Mifa Wildbox, the PR is tuned to just below 50 Hz and the woofers have an Fs of just under 100 Hz. That arrangement confused me at first, then I figured it out. The PR's in-box resonance frequency (45 Hz in this case) basically defines the lowest bass frequency that the system will be capable of producing. Any EQ below there is just going to result in lots of PR and woofer motion, but no significant increase in output, because below 45 Hz the output from the PR and the woofer will be out of phase. However, from 45 Hz upwards, the output from the PR and the woofer will be more in phase, and level-dependent EQ via DSP can be used above 45 Hz quite effectively to enhance the low bass output, just like what's done very well with the Mifa Wildbox. However, it looks like in this case Tronsmart did not provide this EQ, LOL. Maybe that will be fixed in a future firmware update. So, why not use woofers with Fs near or below Fb, i.e. the "normal" configuration for a PR-based speaker design? Well, efficiency drops with resonance frequency, and a portable BT speaker running off batteries is probably not the best fit for inefficient speaker drivers :-).
Not only but also dynamics will suffer if bass is too deep, like the case with the bbx3 which even with such compensations such as mutiband compression, oh well it artifacts dynamics to least say. Btw mifa wildbox if still found at 100€ perhaps the winner against all in the video in terms of absolute power response.
@@asunavk69 The Wildbox never ceases to amaze me with its bass performance. 2.75" drivers are not supposed to deliver all the way down to below 50 Hz, LOL. But after I blew my first Wildbox (I'm on my second), I decided to take a closer look at how it was designed, and the way they approached the issue makes a lot of sense - design the bass drivers to be efficient, tune the PR to the frequency you want to the system to extend to, then fix the passband with EQ. Maybe Tronsmart is trying to do the same thing with their 45 Hz-tuned PR in the Halo 100, but on second thoughts, I'm not certain. That three "twiddler" arrangement they put in the Halo 100 to cover the rest of the spectrum is pretty awful and a sign that perhaps little or no audio engineering was actually involved in the design. It's one of those speakers that I knew was going to sound bad just by looking at it, LOL.
@@Grommet2007 yeah i think in terms of engeneearing the wildbox had some thought put on to it unlike this one i suppose lel. But not exacly a critique, my cousin has a wildbox and a earlier version one, when i tried it in the beggining from when i got i heard some uncontrolness from the attack in some tracks like(eugh sound) is that from the drivers or PR response, i remenber trying eq adjustments to reduce bass and still having it. Now not saying its bad but yeah i could def hear it and wanted to hear an opinion bout it in case you know it.
@@asunavk69 What you heard might be due to the processing that they're using to get such little drivers and PRs to produce frequencies they have no right to be producing otherwise, LOL. Was your cousin's Wildbox updated to the latest firmware version BTW? Response is improved at lower playback levels. I popped the grille off of mine, took out the bass drivers and added a bit of polyester fiberfill behind them to damp the enclosure and the bass response a bit. While I occasionally come across a track that audibly stresses out the drivers if I turn up, most tracks sound fine. I just wish Mifa would provide an app for the Wildbox, as the midbass can be increased just a tad and the highs dropped by a little as well. Right now I use the EQ app built into my Android phone to do those tweaks.
@@Grommet2007 yeah i believe so.. I mean he is ok w it, just to me a bother at the time. But yeah i heard they fixed that though bass got reduced, not thaaat much but yeah, and treble increased ohh yeah it got increased, an eq is missed there too :/ using eqs on phone ain't as efficient as we are not accessing the dsp.
