Trooper has been one of my favorite SUV's. I have had several to include a diseal and two door jeep type model. I currently have a 2000. The power trains are known for major issues. Find a good transmission mechanic that knows these transmissions. I eent through 3 rebuilds and a blown engine because of the transmission shops lack of knowledge. Omce I found a mechanic that actually understood the engine , problem was fixed. Your Trooper is one f the best I have seen.
Spiral_Heart thanks for watching the channel and welcome to the videos. I hope you will enjoy them. I have some cool projects coming up so I hope you will stick around. Thanks again
Your Trooper Looks Awesome... i have a 96' trooper . this inspired me to start the projects on it and turn it into off road vehicle.. Thanks for sharing video
Your Trooper looks awesome. I love the Monstaliner finish and your choice of OD green with black accent looks great. I can't wait to Monstaliner my little Daihatsu Hijet 4WD pickup and give it a 2" coil over lift and some larger all terrain tires. The looks of your Trooper is encouraging me to use black Monstaliner on my black 2005 4Runner, also with 2" or lift and slightly larger tires.
Hello Kevin. You are off to a good start. I've had my 1993 Trooper about 4 years now. I'd like to share some of the things I have done / built for it. Suspension , engine , sliders , 5 speed conversion , lockers.... etc. Eric
Nice video Kevin! greetings from sunny Puerto Rico! big 4x4 community here in the island, plenty of Trooper fans also, im about to get a 99 Trooper from a friend that has been garaged for years and plan to restore , keep u posted!
I am also in PR. I do understand that there is a 4x4 Trooper club here. If so, Can you please reach out? Looking for someone in Bayamon that is supposed to be the Isuzu wizard. He only works on Isuzus. Say hi when you get a chance.
Great vid, looks like everyone loves your Isuzu! Idea for future videos, you driving around in your Isuzu talking about stuff whatever it may be. I think it would go down really well with us.
Very nice build job . Thanks for the info on the hubs and rotors . I have 2 1999 troopers but one is parked,,,,, I hate to say junk. It is rusto underneath. I found the other and had to buy it because it was so clean.
Don't know how youtube recommended this video, but what a pleasure. I love my 1993 Trooper and would love to do exactly what you did to make it really off-road worthy. I also believe that Isuzu made one of the best SUVs and was so sorry that Consumer Reports trashed it and essentially drove Isuzu out of the U.S. market (my Trooper has never raised two wheels off the ground when turning). Now I have this old SUV that keeps running and passing inspection. I would like to have an new engine and all parts under the hood if I were to make the vehicle off road ready, like you did. Problem is finding a reliable place to transform the Trooper. I have zero mechanical skills, nor do I want to do this work. Let the experts do it. I would like to drop it off and and say "fix it" and then pick it up when ready. What was type of paint that you used? My paint is sun weathered with the white scale showing. Great video, thumbs up and subscribed.
r g thanks man Yes I knew nothing a year ago Never changed oil Now I have done timing belt Exhaust lift entire steering system Tons of stuff The paint is monstaliner By far best choice Thanks for your kind words Means a lot to be recognized for all my hard work Don’t miss my future videos A lot of awesome changes are coming soon You can start slow on yours man Just do a little at a time Any engine swap are tough on these due to tranny connection issues Best bet is to buy rebuilt 3.5 for around three grand and swap it over Mine was rebuilt when I bought it Stay in touch!!
I was on the same boat but I just got to the point that I was tired of paying shop prices so I just started youtubing repair videos on the stuff I needed to do just takes time and patience lol
Kevin’s Trooper Channel thanks man I appreciate it I have a 1999 trooper s that I’ve been putting off by of lifting it was next to impossible to find part
fabio acevedo Eric is definitely your guy He has helped me so much. He answered all my questions and his lifts are the best they can be. Hey I’m doing my front wheel bearings right now today!! I have the whole thing apart down to the knuckle. Never have been this deep in a wheel hub. I’m videoing it right now. Hahah I’m replacing the bearings. Rotors and putting manual hubs I got from Eric’s advice and which ones. Video coming soon. It’s really rewarding changing this stuff out myself. First time. Video is gonna be awesome. New lights and mic. Close ups. Haha I’m pumped if you can’t tell. Talk soon. Let me know if you ever need anything or have any questions on anything!!!
I have a 89 Trooper, runs like a champ but otherwise a real POS due to some rough years but I love it. I would also love one like yours, it’s awesome buddy !!
Appalachian Underground thanks a lot man. It has been so much fun building it. A little over a year ago I had never changed oil before now I’ve done all this Thanks so much for watching and being part of the channel. I have some cool projects coming up soon. We are a great group of Isuzu guys and all help each other out Catch us on insta and let me know if you ever need anything!!!
Alex Almony thanks a lot and welcome to the channel. I have some great projects coming up soon. Front wheel bearings Rotors Stainless brake lines And manual 4x4 hub switches should be a fun project. Welcome again and thanks for joining us
I'd love a video just on your paint job! It turned out so great, and I'm excited to do the same someday. I think you convinced me to go with ClassicCityOverland's lift kit over everyone else's. I need to replace pretty much all those parts anyway, (springs most of all).
How’d you trooper doing? I gotta 2002 troop V6. 4x4. I’ve been through 2 rebuilds transmissions, finally gotta reman engine, only lasted 2.5 yrs now 1st gear slipping, have another reman trans. Coming. Had the upper engine rebuild, the heads extremely expensive to resurfacing!! I’m at 260,000. Miles now. Is yours still good. Do you actually use it a lot off road and vacationing? How many miles you put on it in 4 years. I really like mind. Wanna keep it but need things to last a little longer. I’m stuck on it cause I like the rear doors opening design! It just works!!! Hatch back are a pain. This is one of the reasons I don’t wanna change.
Bought a clean california 1999 Trooper for $300 with a thrown rod. Got a Free 3.2 engine from an 01 Rodeo that didnt have a transmission. Should have it running soon.
Just picked up a 1999 Trooper today. My 4th in the last 25 years. Green paint is peeling all the clear and I think the Monstaliner is the way to go. How long did it take you to do the whole truck?
Nick Kelsoe thanks man. I went two inches. Nothing crazy. It needed new springs and links anyway. Thanks so much for watching and welcome to the channel
The Trooper looks awesome, Patagonia Milestars are great tires. They don’t make a 32 inch tire unfortunately. It’s the only reason I don’t have them. I’m going with the Achilles Desert Hawks for my next set.
Paul Nunya thanks man. I’m proud of it. I thought they did make 32s. I was going to get them next. I may try those tires you suggested. Thanks for the tip I really appreciate you watching and being part of the channel. Lately I hVe been doing more fabrication, reviews, and other cool projects Hope you will stick around for more videos!
yo tengo una 1993 es una fiera en todo terreno actualmente tengo un jeep pero mi isuzu trooper no la cambio por nada quien las a probado sabe que son unos verdaderos 4*4 muy buenos. saludos
Hey man I’m interested in a 1998 trooper 3.5L V6 AWD I test drove it and there was nothing wrong I saw no lights pop up brand new battery , tires were in good shape ,the interior was in good condition they outside was in good shape no rust, couple little scratches that aren’t noticeable, well because it has 138,000 on the odometer but it’s really clean man but the only problem I saw was the front window being taped around shut , is it easy to fix the window? And also how is the car on gas now that gas is 3 dollars now? The guy wants $3,000 bucks is this a good price? He also is a Vietnamese guy selling it for his mom and these cars were popular back in the day for them.
Great video! Do you know anyone in Houston who works on Isuzu Troopers? Mine is a 2001 Limited and has been sitting for a few years. I refuse to let it go because it is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Needs a good overhaul tuneup and paint job like yours. (smile)
I have a 2002 Isuzu trooper, V6 3.5 4 x 4. I’m desperately looking for a transmission wire harness front to back. The plug at the front by the radiator has to have a blue black and green wire to the plug-in. Any suggestions nobody seems to have one.
I have a couple questions about 2000 rodeo v6...question 1, can you change the inner tie rod end without touching the outer tie rod end??? question 2...why would you replace the wheel bearing SEALS and not the bearings??? and would you even do that if the rotor was really really bad? question 3... does the gear shift cable have ANYTHING to do with the alignment??? All these questions are regarding my 2000 rodeo V6
How hard is it to replace all the parts that came with the lift kit? I have 0 mechanic experience but I just got my hands on an 04 trooper and would love to make it look have as nice as yours!
Hey, your Trooper is a model for what I'm trying to do. What size of tires did you order? I noticed that you're using stock wheels, and Google is telling me that the sizing is P245 70R16, but I can't find any Patagonias that fit that sizing. Smallest I've seen is P265. TIA!
hey im fixing up my 1993 Isuzu Trooper and im not 100% sure which line is my fuel line. any help or tips you can give me so i can get this bad boy back up and running, its starting with Starter Spray but wont stay running so im thinking its cause its not getting fuel, it just Bogs out after about 2-5 seconds any help would be so appreciated!!
I need some answer's on my 94 isuzu rodeo. I turn the key on and the check engine light comes on. Then I start it and it idles bad and when I drive it , it has no power and at 2000rpms.it loads up real bad and starts to spit and sputter . Now then if I turn the key off and back on real fast while it is running, it will run perfectly. Question is? What is going on with this
Love your Trooper man. They were never sold here in Sweden so i am pretty much alone with my 1995 3.2. And regarding 15" wheels: Don´t! They fit rear but not in the front. The calipers clinch (is that the right word?) with the 15" wheels. Also, what types of wheel arch extensions are you using?
Michael Heimbrand so cool to have you watching from Sweden! They are stock arches that came from factory. Thanks for advise on wheel size. Very glad you are with the chAnnel and thanks for watching
Cody Shell yea man. The lift kit took all that out I did the lift, and torsion bars all at the same time and took my sway bar off. It rides great. Little lean in the corners but it’s not a track car. Meant to go strait over stuff. Haha Thanks for subscribing. I have some cool projects coming up. About to start skid plate system for the bottom using my new plasma cutter ITS COMING IN TODAY. !! So pumped 😂
Hey man. Love your contents. I’m at a stand still. I’ve been thinking about restoring my Dads Trooper. 4JX1 engine. And a Ni e Recaro Seats. It has 254,000 KMS. In it. Is it still worth the Fix?? Thanks man!
Great video and nice trooper! I don't have any money for fun additions right now and have been thinking of selling my '99 because it has the oil drainage problem man others have had (piston rings without enough drainage). However I actually love the trooper- it has character, isn't what you see everyday, and surprises people with how good it is off road with being mostly stock. i have just the OME lift; springs and shocks for just 1.3/4 " and 265/70 on 16" wheels. I have the TOD system instead of hubs so sometimes I worry about those electronics... but it has been working well. I worry about the fears everyone has when talking to everyday mechanics saying they don't work well with diagnostics since (in my wording) it's a "Frankenstein" vehicle with several companies in it. But... the guys who work on it for me sometimes usually find a way to keep it maintained. I wish I could keep it.... any advice for me to not worry as much? It would make a good overland vehicle I think.
lasvegasloner I went through many of those same concerns but these things can run forever if they are maintained Change your oil and such Just take it one issue at a time Many times I’ve had lights come on and it be a gas cap or something silly I have a blue driver for 99 bucks that works great. Make sure you fix problems when they are small. After market parts are pretty easy to get Get on planet Isuzu online and look around They are pretty simple trucks really You got this man !! I started doing a little bit at a time I’m here for you anytime If you have any questions just let me know Thanks for joining the channel We are all a community of Isuzu guys !! Welcome ! I’m here if you need me!
@@ktcgarage8572 Here in Europe the measurements are in milimeters, but that should be roughly the same as the ones I got (265/75 R16). Did you have to mess with the front transmission to apply your lift? If you wanna check the tyres, I got some vids. The best regards.
Nice Trooper. I recently finished rebuilding my '01. These things are tough to work on, but worth it. I put a re-manufactured 3.5 in and changed pretty much everything in the front end. OME 929 on the rear, torsion bar crank, and skyjacker shocks. Do you have the 4L30E or did you get lucky and find yours with the manual 5 speed? I got lucky with my automatic. I changed a couple of solenoids, filter, and fluid. It seems to be doing well. I've got about 10K on it since the rebuild.
Aaron Brown nice man. Sounds like you’ve got a good truck! Thanks so much for being part of the channel. I’m about to do a rear bumper build some skid plates and reweld my front bumper. Got some cool stuff coming up. Thanks. Let me know if you ever need anything. Oh. Classic city overland is a great source of parts and info. Eric is a great guy.
DraztikZ they are available Tons of parts Not too many oem parts but high quality parts are around We all support each other in the trooper family Mine is standard tranny If you can find a standard get it Auto is slightly problematic for wheelin Great trucks Voted top ten of all time Love them
sick man! what year is your troop - i got a 97 earlier this year with 178k miles on it. slowly moving through it, just got the ac repaired and added a hitch
Hibbard1986 thanks man. It’s an 01 I’ve been through the whole thing man Learned a lot and having a blast Today I’m releasing part three of my suv drawer and overlanding storage system for the back It’s turning out awesome and I cant wait to finish it today. Yea my heater core needs to be pulled but I have it bypasses now It’s 100 degrees in south Louisiana haha don’t need it Might pull it next year after deer season. Thanks for watching man I have tons of cool stuff coming up! Hope you will check it out Thanks Kevin
Steph Ray no man They don’t sell them in the US I don’t think Really appreciate you watching I am building some rock sliders as we speak Making a great video of it Steel rectangle tubing and round pipe onto frame It’s gonna be really cool Then custom skid plates next Appreciate the view man
Kieran Stone thanks for watching I just went back and did some research to figure out where I got that one I found it ! I bought it from JC Whitney It’s smittybilt defender 35504 rack Adjust a mount smtam6 And I also got the jack and shovel mounts Actually I just saw that Eric from classic city overland just started selling some mounts that bolt right to your stock screws His email is egagnon086@gmail.com Tell him I sent you Thanks for joining the channel and welcome
Edu Serra Scott I had my clutch changed out and it seemed pretty strait forward for them. I would try to find a manual if you can, I lucked out and bought a manual tranny and I love it. It’s bullet proof. I haven’t changed one myself but it seemed like the shop did it without much problems. Thanks very much for watching my videos and welcome to the channel. If you ever need anything let me know. Also on Instagram classic city overland is the trooper expert, his name is Eric and he is the most knowledgeable. And helpful guy you could ask for. He would know how to help you. And on Instagram we have a close group of Isuzu enthusiasts that all help each other. Check us out there You can click on my insta on my home screen and find all my friends with Isuzu’s. Great trucks! Thanks again
Ozzy Mendoza thanks man. I rolled it. I wish I would have started my channel when I first started but I didn’t. I touched up the dents and scratches with bondo sanded it down a lot. The hood went down to bare metal due to surface rust. Then I sanded the entire clear coat off because it was peeling Rolled the black and then back taped it and rolled the green. Taped off the windows and everything Glad you like it Monstaliner is the way to go! Thanks for watching and I’m glad you are part of the channel. Welcome I have some cool vids coming out soon Rear bumper, hand made skid plates, etc! Hope you will stick around! Thanks again !
@@ktcgarage8572 looks great. now i'm going to have to watch the oil sensor vid. just replaced the AC compressor now no pressure gauge ...... geez my 94 killing me lol
Hey buddy I'm thinking about getting a cheep camping rig. I'm out here in Montana up by Yellowstone. There's a 93 Isuzu trooper ls. It's got 200k Miles. Just wondering how the 4wd system is for you? Any problems? Does it have diff lock in the front? I need to be able to put it in low and have all 4 of my wheels turning not open diffs one in the rear one in the front. I've heard good things about this rig so I thought I would ask you. Thanks man. Also hows the gas milage? Thank you
John Smith mine had been great. It doesn’t have full lockers though but I’m not sure of anything will without adding it. They are great old trucks. We have a great group of guys that are all Isuzu fans and we all help each other out You can check out my Instagram page for all those guys. Also Eric from classic city overland is my expert guy. I’ve bought lots of parts from him. He is the most knowledge guy on these trucks He sells lockers and lifts etc. I think his email is in the comments on this video somewhere. Tell him I sent you Email him and ask what he thinks too. These trucks have some issues with the auto transmission. Mine is manual. I love these trucks. They are strong, reliable, and are able to wheel quite effectively. Not sure of gas mileage. I’ve really never checked it. I make short runs to the woods and camp. I say go for it man. I didn’t know anything about mechanics and never even change the oil before this truck. Now I’ve changed timing belts. Installed lift kits and all kinds of stuff. It’s been great. Mine has a computerized shift on the fly four wheel system that transfers power when needed I don’t think the 93 had it. Not sure. Tell Eric I sent you and see what he thinks. He can tell you more too. Thanks for watching and good luck. Check us out in insta.
Rodney Hatcher I drilled holes in mine and mounted smittybilt mounts with the smittybilt rack I have heard of mounts that attach to the current holes but I’m not sure where you can get them anymore. The smittybilt ones worked great but it takes balls to drill holes in the top of your truck. Haha Thanks for watching and good luck You might ask Eric from classic city overland Just google him. Or check on planetisuzu.
Rene Battaglia oh man. I’m sorry. I always mean to respond I paid 350 for the kit from move I think It was 350 or 400 if I remember Correctly I would make another one for someone if they wanted for 950 plus coating and shipping
Rene Battaglia yea what we could do is you order it and have it shipped here and then just pay me the 500 to build it Then you can either run pick it up or ship it to your house I might meet you that way a little driving if I can
Rene Battaglia I was thinking more about the bumper. I would supply everything needed to get it down to the finish and mounting However. You may have to get someone to weld a few small things on your trooper to strengthen it up but that should be very minimal If you go and watch the entire build series of videos you will see what I put on the front to mount it up. I had to alter the front frame slightly but you could easily have someone there do that for very little You could get it shipped right here to Louisiana and I’ll get it built for you I will also coat it in acid etching primer so it won’t rust ever. You can finish it or paint it the color you want or bed line it Let me know man
Hearing you end every sentence with an upward inflection like a question and speaking in short phrases is like listening to a teenage cheerleader try to explain something she doesn't understand.
There are millions of choices on RU-vid for you to go watch. You shouldn’t insult a creator. It takes hours of editing and filming and we pour ourselves into our work for nothing in return. @@ktcgarage8572 It's working now 😀 might have just been at my side of things, Australia a long way a away haha, hope I didn't worry you to much, great vid 😊
@@ktcgarage8572 may i also ask, how much does the car costs now, with the price of it when you bought it plus the upgrades and cosmetic changes you did? thanks
I paid 2000. Put way way more in it. Probably could not get full money back out. Put in maybe 8k total. Maybe ten. Might get six or seven out I would say Never selling it so it doesn’t matter Haha thanks
You’re welcome Eric at classic city is great and a super nice guy. He knows his Isuzu’s man. He has three I think and has parts and knowledge beyond anyone I’ve ever seen Tell him you are from my channel I just ordered new rear links and a cool ladder to go on my small back door to climb into roof rack
Youngstown Pickle look below for Eric’s email for the lifts Egagnon ) something like that He’s a great guy. Knows his troopers like no one else Thanks for watching If you can’t find him let me know I’ll personally contact him for you Thanks again and welcome Kevin
