I loved what u did for all the wood pieces 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and it does look so much better than what it did before; but the chip board seat & foam etc isn’t in keeping with the rest of the chair! Having said that, it’s great that you’ve given it more life.
Sorry but using all of those synthetic materials to create the seat and back pretty much destroyed any historical value that this interesting chair had. Chip board, foam and plastic leather!!! 😭
But in the video title it says "Restoration of Antique", not "Making an Old Mass Produced Chair Functional Again." And the fact that something was 'mass produced' 120 years ago doesn't make it worthless, it had a unique history, which has now been destroyed.
Whether the intention is resale or hobby: why the bother if the end result is a mash up of antique wood (and antique it is, regardless of its market value at the time) and completely unrelated plastic? I don't know the rules of the antiques market, nor the rules of formal restoration; moreover, every content creators have their style, fair enough. This content though simply feels a bit cheap to me in both intention and execution, compared to others.
An ultimate guide into "How not to treat an antique!!!" When I saw you applying PVA glue for the cracks etc, I knew you were up to no good at all from that point onwards, unfortunately you proved us all right. Also when you didn't bother dealing with [filling with wood dust and [brown/hide] glue putty] into millions of nail and tack holes left behind from reupholstering over the years, I again suspected that there was something sinister awaiting us on the menu for the seat and back-rest - 18mm OSB really, yuck! Choice of fabric & colour was the most distasteful cherry on top for that poor antique had the utter misfortune to endure in her late years. What a shame.
Plywood and foam does not replace springs and horse hare, and it should be leather and a proper floral pattern fabric preferably embroidered. but you did ok on the wood. I prefer to spray lacquer giver a finer finish.
For all you complaining about how he resorted the chair and the music, you can restore a chair of your own and post it to RU-vid and mute this video, so no one has to read your negativity.
The comments section doesn't exist solely for people who think that everything anyone does on youtube is wonderful. It's a place to give feedback. And the criticisms of this appalling 'restoration' are entirely valid. They give the 'restorer' an opportunity to be objective about his work and hopefully improve it in the future.
Great work, but take some advice. No matter how good the content is, poor music choice can kill a video. The music for this video was the completely wrong choice. Try something more serene/classical. Many viewers watch this type of content for its calming effect.
Molle e imbottitura fatta a mano. Distrutta...
