York Gate Garden near Leeds has been on my bucket list for a while, and was recently featured on BBC's Gardeners' World with a visit from Adam Frost.
The garden is spread over just an acre (having originally been designed as a private family garden) and is split in to several themed 'rooms'.
York Gate is a real plant-lovers' garden, packing so much in to its space. my personal favourites were the greenhouse and paved area of cacti and succulents, the exotic area full of big foliage plants, and the shady woodland area.
Finally a massive thank you to head gardener Jack Ogg for inviting me and showing me around.

Always a pleasure to see YorkGate and Jack. There’s more Arisaema, Arum and random aroids hidden in that garden than anywhere outside a botanic garden. Awesome video.

Thanks mate, really appreciate it. Jack and team took what was already an incredible garden and have elevated it to the next level. You're right - there are plants there that you wouldn't otherwise see outside a botanic garden.

Thank you! - unfortunately it's not mine though, it's run by the charity Perennial and is open to the public 😄

Great tour. Love the arid bed. Those yuccas look like a bizarre hybrid between rostrata and linearis which probably doesn't exist. More features of linearis though for me than rostrata. Love the tour cheers

Thanks, it's a fantastic garden with so much packed in to a small space. Definitely worth the trip if you're able to.

Linearifolia 100% saltillo form may i add. Edit. The agave at 18.03 is agave macroacantha.

A. linearifolia satillo is a new one to me but pictures look spot on. And thanks for the a. macroacantha name, that goes straight to the top of my wanted list - love the colour!

2:00 without doubt linierfolia/liniearis. Rostrata leaves are wider. Linierfolia is more spherical aswel.

Definitely more linearis that rostrata, but these didn't have a truly round cross section to their leaves like my linearis at home, they were more oval shaped.

The yucca is linearfolia, if they are in sand i suspect that they are 'hungry' , I've got around 70-80 of rostrata and linerfolia and the ones I've bought or rerooted in sharp sand that have been nutrient/water deficient look like that. The Spanish field grown stock almost look a different plant to the no root rerooted stock from Mexico. Im in Yorkshire . Where were they bought from?

Thank you - interesting to know the difference in growing habits. I'm not sure exactly where the yucca at York Gate are from, but most of their plants are donated from local growers and gardeners. Is linearafolia a synonym of linearis or are they distinct species? I've read conflicting information previously!

@@greatnorthernexotic i believe that they are essentially the same, but not educated enough on specifics of there range to be 100% confident. The problem is that unless you have good knowledge and collected the seed in habitat, you are to a degree relying on the person selling the plant, then who they have bought it off. A Mexican linearfolia looks completely different to a Spanish field grown one. Like if you buy a Nolina hibernica from Spain , they are nearly all not hibernica, but they are sold as hibernica. Also yucca could have got a bit of genetics from another species where the ranges are close overlap.
