Hey Richard ! Thank you for sharing, how is it there now? We have a bunch of rain at this point and some gusts, but I believe the worst have passed at night. Iana
When securing your boat for a hurricane at a marina, never rely only on their dock cleats. Tie a few lines around the finger piers and pile-ons. I've seen and have heard of many dock cleats failing under storm conditions. It's also in your best interest to help others secure their boats...especially the guy that never shows up...because you know his boat will be heading your way if you don't. 😜😜😜✌️✌️✌️👍👍👍
Hello Clay !!! So well stated! We always double tie to pilings behind and the ones next to us at last minute. This way we are the last to get best locations. We also helped others tie to the new side seawall. We are fortunate to know all on our dock and they all have owned boats since dinosaurs roamed the earth. Lol. Thanks for the advice and happy our other boat got a free wash and blowout. Capt W
There's nothing more comforting than the sound of the lifeblood, rain, on the roof, nor more deafening and potentially destructive than the cacophony of a hail storm, both comprised of the same elements, H2O!
@@DawnHunters Yeah, thats for sure. Here in the sub-tropics in Oz, especially with El Nina prevailing this year, it's nothing to get drenched daily/ Right now its clear blue skies but by 5 pm it will be filled with dark grey clouds!
My aunt in Naples, Fl., used to write on the back of greeting card envelopes to me...”Sunshine to you!” What gives with you guys? Where did you hide the sun?😂
Iana, you said. " Don't ask me why, he's out there, doing that rate now." This was when the Captain was out in the rain, during a storm. ( E.T.A. ) Answer. Because he can............
Hey Eric The true meaning of boat life!! Freedom - I did. It need a permit, special permission from condo association, local code police, did not need to have upgrade reviewed by the board. Just open the window - hold on tight and do it. Priceless!!! Capt W ,
Lol this is our usual evening treat - Iana’s special boat cappuccino lol. For now its a nespresso capsule machine + breville milk frother. As coffee lovers we are soon testing new espresso machine for the boat.
I was no better than anyone growing up. But, I can’t help but to laugh when I see the children (bless their hearts) running down the street (or park) launching their kite up into the air, only to see it die when they stop running (no winged). And I’ve heard the definition of a crazy person is one who keeps doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Like I said, bless their hearts.😉
@@DawnHunters Yes! I watched it, loved it, but, expected Bill Murray to die in the end. So, I watched it again, loved it, but, expected Bill Murray to die in the end. @@DawnHunters I'm in Waycross, Ga. About 45 minutes west of Brunswick. I bought a Rosborough 246F . It's by no means what you have but got to start somewhere:)
Hey Mark. That is a sweet boat! And the way I look at boats is if it floats and brings you adventure then it is worth every penny. Welcome to a new chapter in your life. As I say in our 3 part series it is not just a boat!!! Capt W
@@DawnHunters Thanks Capt., will be headed down your way soon! Very interested in the refit of your new Yacht!!! By the way I'm a pilot also but gave up flying and ready to enjoy the water!!!
Mark No more short finals or waiting on the tarmac for hours. Light up the engine, cast the lines and away you go! Welcome to the world of very few rules!! Capt W
Thank you John! Yes, it’s been bouncy at night. Good thing I’m kinda used to this at this point. I remember 2 years ago when I was a fresh liveaboard we were at tropical storm at anchor - I was scared to death 🤣 Iana
Hello Mary!! Yes this is what we have done. Will be the 4th hurricane. This was a little strange in that was not a hurricane but the winds gusts were actually more damaging due to the change in strength. Plus they lock all the bridges down once winds are over 30 so not good to be trapped between two without a place to tie. Thank you for your comments and watching!! Capt W
Look after your self's william knows the things you do in these conditions, its often not your own lines you have to worry about but william knows yana.
Hello Chris. I have been part of hurricane search/rescue for the past 20 years so this was not my first storm. Having 50 foot, 55 foot and 62 foot boats in the water if we pulled the boats out with each “watched” storm I would have had the boats pulled 8 times this year alone. The 2 hours to make a decision if you had the experience was not only regarding a storm. The Miami River bridges close when wind gusts exceed 30 knots and don’t operate again until the storm has passed. In summary boating is like flying - you don’t “watch” the storm and react based on what your told. You as a Captain must make your own decisions based on 50 plus factors. So your WTF comment is clearly a question Thank you for watching. Capt W
