That building is my father in laws, it used to be a restaurant. I can’t believe how much damage was done! We live in riverside, and the storm wasn’t bad here at all, so I didn’t think it was going to be that bad over there! The inside is so much worse then the outside. We are all shocked that this happened! 😞

For the people that keep trying to downplay what just happened in California because it was only a tropical storm and they've been through "real" hurricanes in Florida and such....There's 2 major differences. 1st is that the building codes for the infrastructure in Florida require that buildings, highways, etc are built in a manner that is capable of withstanding storms like this and worse. This is not the case in California. 2nd- is the drastic difference in terrain. Florida is basically swamp marshland sponge that has the capability to absorb the precipitation and the coast line is the low point in elevation so the water that isn't absorbed by the land just drains right back into the ocean. The California deserts are literally the opposite. The sun baked land absorbs about as much moisture as a porcelain plate, and the deserts are valleys are surrounded by mountain ranges on all sides which basically create a procelain bowl. Then the storm clouds get caught up by those same mountains (essentially the rim of those porcelain bowls) slowing them down and then wring them out like you do to laundry when washing by hand.There are other factors as well, but this 2 big ones. So when you go to make a comparison take into consideration the different circumstances and factors.

Well let's go through this. 1. California is surrounded by oceans, where do hurricanes and tropical storms come from? 2. The nitwit Gvr has been more concerned with boys using girls bathrooms, taking parents rights away, fixing ppl that leave that gross state than spending money on barriers. Dumping fresh water into the ocean do he can tax you more. CA gets what it deserves. We get hurricanes every year you got a tropical storm.

Yeah , sometimes i see comments that they say "the media is over exaggerated news about the storm" "the news making it dramatic" . Sometimes it's better tobe ready than it's become too late for somebody which is greatly affected because of some cities and counties topographic location. It's better that the government make them prepared and warned or who gonna warn them ?!

That's just the way some storms are. One block has little damage and the block over can have roofs ripped off and trees down. Newer homes tend to get flooded more. As all the higher ground is built on first. I suppose living by a stream is nice in good weather but they do flood.
@Bimmer_MD
@Bimmer_MD 11 месяцев назад
The coast was barely grazed....this footage is from the desert areas on the other side of the mountain ranges the run up and down the state. Remeber after the soil bakes in 120°f+ temperatures the terrain is akin to that of a porcelain plate, it absorbs basically no moisture and anything on the surface gets swept away with the water, and then combine that with the recent fire damaged areas and you have no root systems to hold down the topsoil and now you get feet of mud just like what was depicted in the news

actually to the contrary it was quite a weak storm. These news fools are speaking in relative terms. That weak storm sweeping over populated mountainous areas is going to cause devestation everytime. That old red barn building has been lucky for 75-100 years not to get hit.

Rare weather events will happen from time to time. What we need to look out for are pattern changes when these rare every 100 year events become more frequent and regular. If something that has only been recorded as happening 6 times in the last 700 years starts happening every 5-10 years, yeah that’s probably a cause for concern.
@RobertMJohnson
@RobertMJohnson 11 месяцев назад
@@KFA8piece yeah no. We don’t have data going back 700 years, Sweetie. And if things become “more frequent”, how exactly are you going to prove they have anything to do with anything? The 70s had way more blizzards and way more cold winters. That was a pattern Then it stopped. Weather can’t be predicted
@KFA8piece
@KFA8piece 11 месяцев назад
@@RobertMJohnson 🤣🤣🤣 Data and other records haven’t always been the same as it is today but there are plenty of ways that we can observed recorded history that also records major events surrounding major weather phenomena. Record keeping techniques have changed but it’s not like prior to 150 years ago there was never any record keeping done. They have figured out a narrowed time frame for some ancient volcanic eruptions based on comparing written accounts of events as well as study of carbon in the ice caps and even cross comparing that with extensive study of tree rings (which how wide they are shows how much growth and sun, atmospheric carbon, drought, and flooding all will affect this). A number of major floods that are rare but occur occasionally for different regions have also been traced back hundreds of years this way with past historical record keeping and other scientific observations. Science and history don’t exist in a bubble. As for attributing frequency of events to anything; What factors surrounding what we know causes certain events has also changed? Following the chain of cause and affect. Keep asking that question all the way down the line, the further back you go. Yes the 70s had more blizzards. Summers weren’t on average as hot either. 28 years ago seeing a week straight of nearly 100° days during the summer in the mid-Atlantic region was not typical. Maybe a couple days in a row of low 90s, but a week straight at 98°+? No. Hotter summers and a lot less snow. Pollution is also a lot worse now. If you don’t think pollution as an effect on the environment then you haven’t looked beyond your nose much. They have been tracking average global and regional temperatures for hundreds of years. And there was a stark change after the Industrial Revolution. But I guess just burry your head in the sand. That totally accomplishes something. For sure. Mmmmhmmmm.
@KFA8piece
@KFA8piece 11 месяцев назад
@myballsitch69 exactly. That’s the thing that we are going to have to look out for. If it happens again in the next 20 years, and then again 10 years after that, and then again 5 years after that, we should really be concerned. That’s a big pattern change. Taking note of conditions that let to it now, and what we can find the last time it happened will all be important to compare between moving forward. What trends and patterns changed in the years in between? What other occurrences have also started to occur more regularly that also weren’t before?

actually this isn't unprecedented. It happened 22-23 years ago. Usually once every other decade california gets hit by a tropical origin storm. Given we only have about 75 years of good accurate record keeping there is nothing to compare our weather too. a century of weather is no more than a little dot on a graph of millions of years. If we had the records going back 10,000 years I think we could make a semi accurate judgement on climate change. Relatively speaking yes in the short time we have kept track, and have had our whole world populated things have gotten worse. But in a lot of cases, neighborhoods burnt down, or washed away weren't there even 20 years ago. THere is nothing to compare it too is what im saying.
