As a current member I can't even begin to explain just how much Alicia and Your Riding Success have helped me improve my riding. I went from feeling like I was never going to "get it" to improving more in the past couple months than I have in the past few years. It's made me really really enjoy riding again and I'm so excited to continue to learn, improve and see where it takes me xx
Sorry I am kind of late to the video! Thank you so much for giving us all the AMAZING opportunity to have a subscription to DMA for a month! It is going to help out so many of us! Alicia, you really do strive to change the equestrian community and you are doing an excellent job! In return, we all owe it to you to get YRS to 1 million subscribers because you have done so much for us all! This video was so helpful! It is always great to have a refresher on how to do some things! My biggest takeaway from the video you be to ask for your canter transition in one action with the outside leg. Thank you so much for being the wonderful and helpful person you are!
"Don't try it again until you've got balance." Seriously maybe the most important take away here for me. Working on teaching the changes...and canter pirouette canter ...and I have a tendency to just ask in the spot I planned even if the preparation hasn't gone as planned...and of course I get a crap answer. I need to remember this EVERY time! So easy to remember
SOOoooooo helpful to finally understand when the back leg is on the ground is the moment to ask. So much time wasted bouncing around in sitting trot wondering why I missed the moment. And the not understanding why on another attempt it just happens like magic. Totally demystified. Makes perfect sense!
I have a student struggling to learn canter departs. The streamline of what to look for and how to find balance is really helpful. Doing something and teaching someone else how to do it it so different!
I stumbled upon the channel searching for something else dressage related. However, found myself binge watching everything. I've a 4 yr old AQHA, we're both learning dressage (I've ridden western pleasure for 20+ years). Anyway I work with a trainer in the States, but felt compelled to comment on this specific vid as the exercises helped MORE THAN ANYTHING IVE DONE with my little mare. Thank you so soooo much. Exploring more of what you've got! Thank you!
OMGEEE! I tried this today and it made 100%difference! Not sure what it looked like from the ground but when i said "pop" he popped straight into canter. I'm feeling super chuffed today and that's all thanks to you Alicia and your amazing teaching! 👏
Wow! Thank you. That was awesome to tune in to. So precise the process of attaining trot to canter, and specifically a reminder of the knowledge of where the diagonal is in the rising trot to be able to KNOW When and Where to POP and ask for canter.
Biggest take away this time is definitely to take the time to make sure you have what you need before trying for something else. (I.e waiting for canter until the trot is big and balanced) it was cool to watch the study session with the DMA members. Thanks to everyone who's helped support our learning ❤️☺️
Thank you so much for sharing your biggest takeaway from this video! So glad you are enjoying the live sessions so far!! We can't wait to have you in our next one! x
This is so cool. It's so hard to find good horse people like Alicia (I've been trying). I like how you talk about the back leg being on the ground. That makes so much sense now! It really helps with a lot of trot-canter issues. I also like that you don't start the canter until you have balance.
Amazing 👏 thank you so much! I am learning so much and it all starting to make sense as I keep practicing your analogies :) : "the banana", "the peg", " the train trucks", leg position like you are "standing on the ground "! Omg! My horse is so much happier since I have improved my seat and my riding. Thank you so much 💓
It also confirms that l do things the right way as l do not have an instructor and being disabled riding is hard but the best therapy. Confirmation like your explanation asures me so much and my confidence is back again. My husband video's every ride. I explain to him what to look for and after the ride l judge myself to see what l do wrong. The banana, traintracks everything you say is worth gold!
Wow!! We love the support you're getting from your husband!! And we're glad the videos have been helpful for you!! We can't wait to hear more about your progress! x
The explanation of the sit in Trot to help guide you into that canter transition was amazing thank you so much!!! I have been wondering how to tell when the back leg is in the right place to ask for canter, so massive thank you for that!!! All that basic knowledge is super helpful 🥰🥰
Thank you so much for sharing this clarity. I am not sure i can properly ride all the steps to canter departure, but i now know when the outside leg is coming forward. That's a huge help.
Hi, I guess I was trying to say that “click below “ didn’t make any sense to me. However, I am not very tech savvy. Thankyou for allowing me access to the Riding Academy information. I really appreciate it. Alicia’s first videos changed my life! Thankgod she understands that there are communication glitches in horseback riding lessons! ~Lorraine
Thank you so much Lorraine! :) There are links in the description if you click below, you will be able to see it eventually. Love that you are here! :)
Thank you so much. You make it all so clear. Is makes sence. Prepair, be straight, weight on the horse,'s outside leg having the weigth ehich you will know when you sit in rise trot and only a simple pop with your outside leg behind the guird. Pop, pop, if not the moment or goes wrong aboard and try again. So amazing. Just practising this movement of pop and where and at what moment is so good and only do it if your horse and you are vertical. Everything you say makes sence. Never seen a teacher teach it and explain it like you do. Your video's are fantastic! And what l like about you is everyone is welcome! You do not see that with others this way. I start the day calling loud " Hi Superstar Rider!" to myself. You and your team are amazing!!!! Still got so many video's to watch but l love seeing them and learning every second! Thank you and your team so much for making it possible for everyone spec. for those who can not afford lessons.
I won a month's free subscription and I am VERY pleased with the programme. The live coaching is great. It's very informative and well worth the investment. Unfortunately, I'm not in the situation to afford it this year. However, I strongly recommend this programme. I have followed Tash for about 10 years, and the live coaching is INCREDIBLY USEFUL. The insight that these instructors have is WELL WORTH the money. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Just as I thought I had learnt so much from you along comes another BIG learning curve. The footage of the horse leaning in the canter transition really opened my eyes and I find I am nodding to agree with all you explain. I always thought my horse deliberately took 3 strides to answer my canter aid but now I see he just wasn't in a balanced position to be able to respond promptly. I am now on a mission ! His quarters no longer trail in the leg yield and he doesn't lean in on the corners. In fact everything is better. Thanks again Alicia.
I fiiiinally got the time to watch this one. I paid a lot of attention to the advice on doing a counter bend on a circle to keep the weight on the outside hind leg. I will definitely try to do this. And as I was sitting here thinking "how do I know when the outside hind is about to hit the ground - how do I know when to make the aid", someone asks this. THANK YOU. And it makes so much sense and makes it a lot easier for me to do as I really rarely do a transition to canter from rising trot. But I will for sure be trying that to make sure I give the aid at the right time. Thank you so much for so many great learnings once again.
@@YourRidingSuccess I tried it and I actually really struggled to do it corectly, but I think that also really shows that I am not trained in giving the aid at the right time. But now I'm learning to
Outside leg of horse hits ground when you go down in rising trot makes sense as this is the best position to put your leg back to go into canter. Everything is so beautifully explained. Thanks again Alicia.💜💛💚
This was so helpful, and a lovely insight into the DMA programme, thanks Alicia and the DMA members for letting us watch and learn! I’m sorry, I haven’t commented on other videos this month as I’ve been unwell but I’ve been learning lots from them. My biggest learning here was to ask for canter in one action with the outside leg - I sometimes grip when I don’t get the canter transition first time, or just panic! So another learning was to take it back to where the trot is good before asking again. Thanks so much! x #Harlow
Perfect! So glad you learned so much from the videos and that you are finding them super helpful for you!! Tell us how you go trying out the techniques you learned so far x
Thank you for your simplicity. I just had a lesson where everything went to sh@! Your videos makes me feel like I can go back and gain what back what I had.
Thank you for finally describing to me exactly how to tell when the outside hind is hitting the ground. Can't wait to work more now on our canter transition 😀🐴
Woww this video was amazing, I was listening to this while riding, and my horse was amazing! I had good control and balance (by watching your other videos), and this helped a lot! Thank you so much ❤️
This is an amazing opportunity!! As a student I can unfortunately not afford a regular DMA membership so I’m so glad to still get the chance to learn 😍 I’m looking forward to what I’m gonna take from that month to improve my riding!! 🥰
Thank you Alicia and members for sharing this. Gave me some clarity and helps me feel like I can keep going. I love your honesty and enthusiasm Alicia. Thank God for you! You’re a bright light. The horse world needs you❤️❤️
I can’t wait to try my transitions tomorrow including small circles which start with slight bend to outside. I love love love the discussion and knowledge that is being shared in these sessions! So helpful and practical!
🌟 New DMA member!! Alicia provides a comprehensive recipe for developing effective transitions here -- which is a perfect example of what DMA provides! DMA is an absolute encyclopaedia of expert knowledge & tools on every aspect of dressage! The study sessions provide a forum for discussion & critical analysis on a personalised level, that is invaluable, & yet which is only one small corner of everything that DMA offers. There is so much more! To be giving away subscriptions to people who possibly wouldn't normally have access, is brilliant, & I myself, am one grateful recipient!!! What a fabulous resource too, to be part of a network of fellow riders, all passionate & keen to learn!!! Loving it!! Thankyou YRS & DMA!! 🐎🐎❤‼️🙏
ALOHA RIDING FRIENDS! Thanks so much for sharing your gift.. My horse has such big rough canter it scares me. So learning this transition is perfect for me! PS. I love watching little Harlow too
Omg I’m dealing with this same issue I can’t get the canter right thank you so much this helps So much. I have also managed to get one of the memberships for 30 days I’m loving it so far thank you 👌🏼
Another fantastic video. So much valuable info. My biggest learning was knowing that when rider is in the down of rising trot the horse's outside hindleg is about to touch down and that is the correct time to apply the aid to canter. Thank you so much! I am super grateful for the free 30 days of Dressage Mastery. ❤❤❤
great look inside your DMA program. Great advice to teach a horse to canter correctly. I understand now what to do with young horses which fall in on a circle in order to get them into canter. I was always thinking it was me not asking correctly when in fact the horse can't get into canter when falling too much in. I was always so frustrated, but now it is more reassuring for me and I got really some good tips in this seassion. thank you Alicia.
This is going to be so helpful. I'm preparing my horse for his first show in 2 weeks and we need to work on our trot to canter transitions. Can't wait for the video!!🥰🥰
@@YourRidingSuccess unfortunately I found out the show had been cancelled today but that's ok, it just gives us more time to train. I have been similar situation to Suzanne and you basically explained exactly what was going wrong. It made so much sense when you explained ways to improve it. Thank you 😁
Loved Alicia including us RU-vid viewers, giving us insight on what to expect in your study session. Not to mention great advice on getting the canter. Thanks so much 🤩
Thank you so much and a big thanks from my horse no more never ending circles. I tried the ONE 15 meter circle at each letter and had the most amazing ride also I tend to put leg on and hold it on I am working really hard on sharp on/off it worked today I had instant canter when I asked at the right time. This video was amazing 🤩
Watching video = I am inspired to go and try this helpful information with my 🐎 today. Biggest takeaway is remembering to keep the weight on all four feet even and why the counter bend in the circle works to rebalance. I must say that a pop with my outside leg whilst the outside leg is coming forward has improved our transition so no more squeezing with legs for me! 😊 Love love the study groups absolutely the best way to learn 💖
Thank you so much!! It is so nice of you and all the DMA members to allow for this opportunity to access DMA for a month!! This video was so helpful, I will definitely be trying it out on my young ottb:) so exciting!!
I love this video as always I love your teaching style and energy! You are an awesome rider! I am praying for Wessel! I lost 3 of my senior horses ages 18- 29 to terrible colics I’m the last 5 years and I am so happy that Wessel was able to have a successful surgery!
Thank you! I've been struggling with us running into our canter as well. It's my fault as I didn't want to put him into something uncomfortable and have let him run into it. Luckily my wonderful coach has held my hand a little and has been my eyes on the ground to help me distinguish if its pain/strength or just him being a brat! I've been bringing him back in the trot before pushing him up into it. It has been improving but watching the DMA videos here, he definitely falls in during out transition. I next ride, along with my other homework, I'll be sure to keep him from falling in and see how much that makes it easier for him!
So lucky of you to have that kind of coach to help you with your riding! And thanks for watching this video - I hope this works for you and we can't wait to hear about it! x
Thank you everyone for getting me a spot in the DMA. I really appreciate it as student it’s hard to finance lessons and a horse on lease. Thank you 🙏 so much guys, i couldn’t afford on my own. I don’t how I can say thank you all
I love watching you ,I’m just going out this weekend after 3 years off competing, Covid and broken arm With two plates,I now know when hind legs is under me ,that was epic learning .
Woooah. The whole video, just 🤯🤯🤯🤯 Thank you SO much DMA Team AND members for sharing this study group with us!!! So so timely for me as I come back into riding after 18 yrs off, on a young very green (but so sweet!) mare! Can not WAIT to put into practice all the nuggets of pure gold from this video. 💖🇨🇦
I lots so great to watch these videos before having a lesson and be able to put your descriptions into action. I definitely saw a difference in how I thought about my weight in my canter transitions today and had much more balanced pick ups :) thank you!
Wow, just wow!! So many learnings from this video!! 🤯🤯🤯 How to know when the outside leg is about to land, how to use counter flexion for straightness, how doing repetitive circles is totally not the way to go 🤣 And, in addition to doing such amazing videos, also giving away free memberships 🤯 You guys are saints!! 😘😘 Thank you so much Alicia, YRS and DMA members ❤❤❤
Brilliant as usual! The when to ask for canter was super helpful 💥 I'll be trying this tomorrow. Thankyou so much for sharing your knowledge AMAZING ❤🥰
I am currently having difficulties with my canter transition. This was very helpful. Im definitely leaning in and giving the wrong message. Thank you for sharing!
this is amazing i love the way you teach . it is so nice of you to help us . you are so nice for taking your time and teach us every details thank you so much . most of the time i want to canter i just trot fast and then i have less balance but now it makes sense .thx
This is amazing! You guys are saints. I don't have a horse right now, but I hopefully will by the end of the month. I would love to do the 30 days! I don't want to take a spot when I won't be riding for half of the 30 days. ♥️😁 Learning that there are actual steps/rules you can take to get a better transition is my biggest learning! I have never heard it broken down like that. What I have been told my whole life isn't close to the brain explosion I just had. Using the wall and one circle! Not "forcing" when its wrong, kinda of a quality over quantity thing. ♥️♥️ And the down in the rise! What?! Another brain 💥!
so glad you enjoyed the video Beth!! You can still register for a spot even if you aren't riding! Great time to brush up on your theory in prep for riding!!
Omg I am so excited 🎉😁🤓. I got in ! I can't wait to meet everyone ❤️. Just from the first two videos my mind is blown with knowledge. Thank you so much 💞
Systematic approach. I hear that. Trusting the process and just taking the small wins. Also, the tip to not keep riding a canter circle is VERY helpful. My take away about that is working on transitions in the circle and then riding the long side to prevent the horse from going on the forehand.
I love the no more than one circle rule - I’ve spent so much time sticking on circles and I’ve noticed so much of a shift since I’ve swapped to one! Also the electric leg for the canter aid is so good - I don’t think anyone has ever said that in the time 17ish years I’ve ridden
Incredible explanation, as usual, Alicia! I have been trying the 1/2 circle in leg yield, then canter, then leg yield to trot at the wall from one of your other videos. The one thing that has actually helped me the most, though, was keeping my hands closer together to control his shoulder. That one thing has helped me immensely in my "canter journey" with this new horse! My next question was also answered- how you know when the outside hind leg is on the ground. A question I've always wanted to ask but felt like I should already know that b/c I've been riding for so long. Now I know! Simplified explanation. You ladies and your team are the best! And Mowgs looks super handsome🎩 Thanks DMA for letting us chime in!
I love the idea of the exercise to circle every 12m with a tiny bit of canter. My horse has had surgery and we are along way from riding again but canter is the last gait to reintroduce in the rehab program. This looks like a great way for me to try it.
This is awesome! I feel like I am way behind people as my Standardbred is just trotting. I get a canter sometimes when lunging, but I haven't asked under saddle. But this makes total sense to not even ask her until she is balanced at the trot. And the leaning in on the circle - makes so much sense that they have to be "upright" in order to get that back outside leg under them!
Thank you for this amazing opportunity. I was a member many (5-6ish) years ago and it was great, but this looks AMAZING!! The live chats and video feedback is so exciting. As much as I would love to rejoin, financially I haven't been able to make it happen and I am so so grateful to everyone for the opportunity for one month free access. Thank you ❤
So nice of you to share this with us. Thank you! Unfortunately I'm still not at a level I can join you on this kind of talk group but maybe some day soon 😊
I was late to watch this and thought i would miss tge chance for the 30 days but im in 😀. Two great things tonight - ask for canter from the rise 💥 always been told to "go sitting" then ask for canter! And the outside hind hiting the ground on the down rise 💥. Bit of homework for the weekend - thank you!
Once again Alicia Articulated beautifully. Info always helpful, practical and always mind blowing in its simplicity . I’m off to practice knowing where my horses hind legs are in Trot. And BTW Tobes you look 5 years younger without the beard!!!!!!! You smoothie 😁🦋
So very interesting! I’ve tried the counter bend when it was mentioned before and it really helped with straightness (though still need to strengthen), but this has really helped my understanding!
Love this. So nice that you are available for us to "pick your brain". Where else on earth would we find this unless we had a friend who was a grand prix rider!
Heck yes!!! LOVE THIS!! Can you make a video about what you should do with your horse throughout the week aka what schedule you do to keep horses fit and in the best shape? For example Mondays trail ride Tuesday arena work with poles Wednesday jumping Thursday dressage Friday trail Saturday dressage and Sunday lunge/off
Hi Taylor!! Every horse is going to be a bit different depending on their level and what you are wanting to achieve in your training! Alicia does go over Mowgley's schedule a bit in this video here..ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-x41oaZUNLHE.html
