Wading down the River Wye in search of “The Lady of the Stream” in February. Trotting maggots under a stick float; this time with a fixed spool real rather than the Centerpin.
Hello Simon, no problem naming the beat as it's very well run and available to anyone. It's the Aramstone Beat, Kings Caple. A couple of miles upstream of Ross. Just look up "Stan Turner at Aramstone Est Fishery" There have been quite a few Grayling coming out this mild winter!
@@wye-fisher Thank you. Very close to where I imagined, and just a little upstream of where I get to visit every year or so, a friend’s farm at Brampton Abbots, which is about the only coarse fishing I do these days; and I love it. But in my 60 years I have never caught a grayling, anywhere - and I mainly fish the Derbyshire Wye, Goyt and Etherow these days, if very occasionally. So I was curious as to whether they would be in that Wye at Brampton Abbots, as I’m hoping to invite myself down soon: I’m craving it, and have fallen down a rabbit hole of river Wye float and fly videos the past few days. Thank you for your significant contribution to those!
Get yourself down here now as there are some really good, near specimen, Grayling showing this spring; I've not seen a season like it for some years. Perhaps the mild temperatures have got them going? Most often fished for and found in the upper stretches they are now turning up all through the river system. The larger fish are being picked up on Maggot Feeders but they are tending to be deep hooked so I would avoid that method. You can't beat a 'Pin for trotting and that's what I'll be doing Sunday :)
