I rarely use the Toy Hauler these days but, when we decided to go to Montana, it was time to get it ready for the trip. Well, the generator wouldn't start so, time to break out the diagnostic skills to get it running again. This has some basic techniques to zero in on the problem, fix it and get a basic gasoline engine operable again.

Thank you for this video! I had to replace my pump, so the fuel in there was over a year old. I did have to remove the choke from the brass coupling and the plunger inside was stuck to the inside of the brass opening. Cleaned the thick varnish off with a toothbrush and carb cleaner and it fired up like new.

Awesome! We will all be doing this more often with the added Ethanol found in gasoline today! I'm glad you got it fixed and running again! Thanks for watching!

Good as new now Jeff. Done dozens of them on old outboards and small Briggs motors. Good job. 🫵🏼💯🆒🇺🇸

Thanks Steve! I was lucky enough to have been given my own 2.5 hp Tecumseh from my Dad when I was 6 years old. I did a lot over the years with my go karts, mini bikes, landscape business and our Jr. Dragsters. It is great how the concepts work for all of them! Thanks for watching and take care!

That is a good tip and just the right size to get those areas cleaned out! The gas today is tough on all of this stuff! Many just toss the carb and buy a new one on Amazon. It is more satisfying to troubleshoot and fix them yourself. Thanks for watching Lonnie!

I learned this trick from another youtuber on how clean out the orphices is to use a torch tip cleaner for an acetalyne torch. In my case it was a predator pressure washer. I will admit that I did buy a new carb to determine if the unit was good or not. When I had the patience I did clean out the old carb. The positive is that I have a spare carb.

Brian, that is a great idea! You already had a replacement carb that worked so, you've got a faulty carb to work on and try new tricks to get it working again. If you get the old one repaired, you're a hero and you've got a spare. If not, no loss because you already have the replacement. I will have to try that next time because this carb inherently needs service after sitting for some time. Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching!

The tools that I used to clean out the carb is a Miller torch tip.cleaner tool the nice part is it is under 10 dollars at Home Depot. The original carb works at about 92 percent. I also tried drill bits, but most were too big for my application. Always a pleasure to watch your content.

Ethanol strikes again.

Yep, you are on to something there! It's definitely better to empty the fuel system than to let it sit in there for long periods of time. Thanks for watching!

This was just the start of the problems on the trip! More carnage later. A high point of the trip was meeting you and BareRose on the way! Thanks for watching!
