WOW!! So useful! Size 18 BOOM! What a tip! That did it!!! I was having so many problems with skipped stitches (batik, warm and natural, batik). Switching to a size 18 needle absolutely did the trick! Thank you. Your information is most useful and appreciated.

I just watched this video regarding skipped stitches. Oh my goodness!!! I had been fighting with my Qnique 15. I love this machine. It has been such a great mid arm quilting machine until…… multiple skipped stitches. I tried lots of different fixes.. tension, bobbin, re-thread, change thread, change needle. When you said sometimes the whole pkg of needles is bad, I tried a different pkg. Now my machine works great again!!!! Thank you so very much!

I'm so glad I found this video. I've been having a TERRIBLE time with long stitches. Until I saw your video I didn't know this had a name, much less what to do about it. After watching the video I checked my encoders and sure enough! That was my problem. THANK YOU!

Hi Lori, Thank you. I was trying to adjust my timing because of skipped stitches and when I saw your video I learned that timing was not the issue. I returned to the machine followed your advice and suddenly all was normal again. Thank you.

Oh my goodness! This is the best video!! I was trying & trying to get my machine to work. It was making the long stitches. We had moved my quilter downstairs & I was super afraid it had messed the timing up even though we were extremely careful. When I went to look at the encoders I had failed to plug one up. Thank you so much for this video!! It’s back to quilting like a dream! You guys are awesome. ❤️

Thank you so much! Wow, that was such helpful info. I have a Handy quilter Avante. It is a used machine and just a few months with me. I have been learning a lot about tension from them. I entered skipped stitch into RU-vid and found you. Thank you for the handout! I have my quilt rolled too tight. I have linen fabric which may be rough and I changed the needle and have rethreaded. I will check if I have pin holes where it is skipped and check the rollers and clean. Funny, just when you think you have checked everything, there is new info and I am so greatful for it!

Wow, this helped me so much! I have been fighting with my thread, quilting machine, tension, etc. I slowed my machine down after checking everything and it works! The extra level of detail was very helpful. Thank you so much! I will definitely share this information with people that have the same issues! I am also going to check out your shop online.

This was wonderful!! I'm praying this helps me take care of the problems I experienced today. Sounds like I have long stitches and I think only vertically. Did the cleaning and all per my quilt store, but still happening. I think think I'll switch out the needle again (have a new pack of them). Hoping for a better day tomorrow. THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!!! Although I have been using my Babylock Jewel 18" longarm for 10+ years I have learned something very valuable today. My set up was too tight! As soon as I loosened off my rollers and relaxed the quilt tension it made a big difference. I have not seen this tip anywhere else! I also changed my needle (again, just for good measure). All of a sudden, no thread breakage and I was able to concentrate on adjusting good tension, starting with the bobbin and then small adjustments on the top tension. Amazing! I was pulling my hair out before this.

Thank you, this was helpful. I have a Qnique 14+ and am experiencing the skipped stitches. I changed out the needle to a size 14. I believe it is too small and have ordered the 16 and 18 needles. Otherwise, I am still having issues with my machine, going through all of your steps. I thought moving the hopping foot down would finally do the trick, but unfortunately, it didn't. I have printed out your information for future reference. Thank you again!

I'm so glad I found your site. I just got QCT5 for my Q'nique21 Longarm. I'm getting long stitches only when the machine goes from left to right when using the quilt motion program. Sometimes the needle stays in the fabric and pulls and is dragged. When free motion quilting its mostly fine. Maybe you can help me.

Download her list, and then go through each step, as I have had the same problem pop up, I have 21 Pro and QCT 5 Beg. Also double check all plug in's, I'm thinking I had my quilt too tight to quilt on. So I am trouble shooting right now.

My needle went crazy yest and hit my stitch plate several times and now I’m getting shipped stitches. The needle makes holes in fabric but not catching the bobbin. I put in a new needle cleaned machine and still skipping. Do you think I need timing checked?
@QuiltersHeadquartersSiouxFalls
@QuiltersHeadquartersSiouxFalls 3 года назад
More than likely the needle bar height changed. You would always want to check needle bar height BEFORE changing timing. Depending on what machine you have, there are often instructions as well as tools to help you do this. Once the needle bar height is right, the timing may very well be right where it should be.

What is an encoder? New to Long Arm. 😊
@QuiltersHeadquartersSiouxFalls
@QuiltersHeadquartersSiouxFalls 3 года назад
The encoders drive the stitch regulator which make the stitch size consistent no matter what speed you are moving the machine.

Try unplugging then plug in again. Both ends of encoder cable. That don’t work try plugging in the other encoder to that port in see what happens. Bob
