TROUT BEADS
HOW TO SET UP THE TROUT BEAD RIG .
the trout bead rig is great for low clear conditions and waters that see a fair amount of fishing pressure .
great for brown trout ,steelhead ,rainbow trout and salmon .
bill and mike's angling adventures .
background music from youtube audio library .
roadsnake 90 productions .
trout bead rig works great on streams like the oak orchard river ,burt dam ,niagara river ,cattaraugus crek ,18 mile creek ,walnut creek , and many other western ny trout and steelhead tributarys .

A pegged blood dot bead doesn't "spin or roll" naturally under the water as its fixed to your mono. Snell your hook too then the hooks shank will stay in line with your mono leader/tippet and not form an obtuse angle which can cause you to miss 20% of your takes. I like your choice of small hooks. They stick like a staple in the mandibles and don't wiggle out. If you finish off your leader with a loop, then you can easily attach pre tied rigs containing 2 to 3 feet of tippet with a hook already attached and a nail knot of 20 lb mono clipped tight 2-3 inches above the hook. The bead won't slide past the nail knot and will allow the dotted head to spin naturally in the water. Changing bead color and size is critical day to day and hour to hour. Just nip the tippet knot which is attached to your leader loop, slide the bead off and attach different one. Re-tie back to the loop and your back fishing in under a minute. No need to pull tooth pics out from used beads and you don't have to re-tie on the hook each time. Boom! 30 years of bead fishing experience you just gained in two minutes of reading. I enjoy watching your vids. Thanks

It's called a surgeon's knot because it's the same knot used to close sutures (or so I'm told). Anyhow, it's commonly used in fly fishing to tie tippet, which is typically 4 or 5 lb test, to your leader because it's easy to tie in fine stuff. A barrel knot (more commonly known as a blood knot in fishing) is very different -- it's a little bit like a pair of interlocked clinch knots -- but it's used for the same purposes. Blood knot vs. surgeon's knot is purely a matter of personal preference. A blood knot is neater-looking but a surgeon's knot is quicker to tie.

interesting setup. I wonder why so much space between the bead and the hook? wouldn't it work having the bead very close to the hook?
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures
@BillMikesAnglingAdventures 5 лет назад
i like it 2 to 3" away from the hook so the trout dont notice it as much - when the trout take beads they dont chomp them they just inhale and swallow the bead so the hook is always somewhere inside they're mouth and not down its throat which wouldn't be good for c&r. always best to check whats legal in your area - ive heard said the bead cant be more than inches but i dont know

Hello, thank you for your nice video. Yet I have a question, you have put the hook few inches below the egg on the string instead of directly clinging the egg on the hook, but if you do won't the fish notice the hook? I am afraid if I have misunderstood your video so if you have attached the hook few inches below the egg for some specific reason, could you please explain it for me? Again, thank you for your informative video!

Also sometimes I put a bead with hook on top and pink work on bottom . Distance between them like 8-10 inches. Sometimes I tip the empty hook with wax worms for the smell . That's in Wisconsin . And also wanted to ask you would you try to get them on spinners ? And if yes can you make. Video ? Thank you

How big a bead is considered a trout bead? I just bought a bunch of 10mm soft beads (UV) to try my hand at steelhead. I saw a video where they use xtra sm transparent bobber stops instead of bead pegs & push it up into the egg, so I want to give it a try. Lastly do you use scent? Is there an "egg scent"? I was going to use shrimp or krill if not. Any thoughts? Thx.

@BillMikesAnglingAdventures

+Robert Unversaw i imagine it would be relatively safe to eat some migratory species as the heath advisory states up to 4 meals per month for most trout and salmon species from lake ontario even though it recommends eating none from 18 . www.health.ny.gov/environmental/outdoors/fish/health_advisories/regional/western.htm

Hello, I am still confuse about bead fishing. Do you rig your setup like float fishing with jig where the jig is about 1-2 foot above the bottom or do you drift where the sinker is bouncing along the bottom. And is drifting with a bobber called "bobber dogging?"

the hook near the bead would be more noticeable to the fish - when the fish inhales the bead the goes along with it with full hook gap exposed for hooking fish

@@BillMikesAnglingAdventures oh I'm sure it does and there's no truly right or wrong way. I was just taught to use a Snell Knot. The connection to the hook is just a lot more direct with a snell because the line goes down through the eye of the hook opposed to tied onto the eye where the hook has a lot more range of motion with a clinch knot which is not good. +Bill & Mikes Angling Adventures I finally got the chance to use the troutbeads this weekend in clear water conditions. They worked really well. I noticed that they won't sink so sometimes I had to set the float up very high so the split shot tapped the bottom. Is that what you do? If not, how high up do you set the bobber? And I was also wondering if you have ever used a double bead rig? Thanks man.

+Bill & Mikes Angling Adventures And the TroutBead company recommends much bigger hooks than you mention here because they said the bead gets in the way. Did you find that to be a problem.
