Nestled in the rugged Poconos Mountain in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Jim Thorpe is an outdoor recreation mecca. For trout fishing enthusiasts, there is the mighty Lehigh River and its many tributaries in and around the Lehigh Gorge. If you enjoy local history, Jim Thorpe (formerly Mauch Chunk) was a booming coal, timber, and railroad hub before transitioning to its tourist economy of today. With immaculately well preserved historic architecture, and various shops and restaurants, there’s nothing better than strolling through the downtown historic core after a full day of fly fishing. Please join me for the first episode of Trout Towns in Jim Thorpe, Pennsyvlania.

Please remember that the trout in this river is stocked by the Lehigh River Stocking Association and not the state. The state stocks from Francis E Walter dam down to sand spring run. We need more members to keep this River the great fishery that it is. Please consider joining. I have been a proud member for 30 years.

Doesn't the state stock the top 5 miles, 5 mile high club stocks 903 bridge to bear creek and LRSA stocks somewhere around Glen Okno to Northhampton. The wild fish population has been positively impacted by the stocking. Now that the fish are there, how about using the money and effort to make sure the feeders are passable for fish spawning and continued water quality improvement? Hatches continue to improve and I feel it's a direct result of the ACOE working better to keep water in the river. It's currently a good fishery but could be a great fishery. It's not as reliant on cold water releases as the Delaware system is. Lehigh gains cold water as it goes. Just can't let it dry up in the summer

The fishing footage was great. I really like how you added cultural information about the town and the area. Sets your content apart from a lot of the YT fishing videos. Amazingly beautiful town and environs. Good work. I think you have a good idea here. Lots of trout towns, villages, and just places to feature in PA.

I'm in Carbon County about 5 miles from Jim Thorpe. I'm just getting started fly fishing for PA trout. Hard to believe that I have put this off for so long but I work in NJ and have little time until now. A word of caution to those wading in the Lehigh there are a lot of deep drop offs and slippery rocks.

Jim Thorpe has always been a nice quiet little town, I guess you can say. I lived up there off and on for years. Very little to do in Jim Thorpe but it's still a nice area. I'm hoping to get up there sometime in the fall to do some crappie fishing at the Munch Chunk lake. Great video

Good stuff man! I really enjoy the format. If I could make a suggestion. Before you start fishing explain your setup and technique , Rod length, Weight, leader size, indicator or not and a close up and description of your flies. Also when you’re about to cast describe what you’re seeing on the water that is making you want to cast there. I’m routing for you. Your videos and skills have improved much since your early videos. I love how you always mention that your hands are sopping wet because you know you will get attacked. Lol. Keep up the good work

Thanks! I genuinely appreciate the comment. I usually don't get alot of 'love' from the other PA fly fishing channels (probably due to my earlier videos which even I cringe at). I honestly just love American history and classic architecture and found myself enjoying that aspect of traveling to trout fish just as much as the actual fishing so figured I'd share that with everyone. You've got some great videos as well and we definitely fish many of the same waters. Have a great spring fishing season (hopefully this cool weather and rain continue into June)!

@tyanez
@tyanez Год назад
I think he withholds that information on purpose. If I'm honest, I agree with that policy. RU-vid is great, but once something is featured on YT it tends to really get a lot of pressure quickly. I found an awesome book on PA streams by Tom Gilmore with GPS directions for access called, "Flyfisher's Guide to Pennsylvania." My and my fishing buddy call it The Good Book. 😆

@@TravelingTroutCo it’s a cheat code - longer rod / thinner diameter of a line so you rarely even use ur fly line and then really shouldn’t even have any of your line on the water so there’s essentially no drag. Your basically fishing the bottom almost with a fly rod and a much tighter presentation. It will shorten the learning curve that comes with fly fishing and really force you to learn to read water and move fish out of areas you generally wouldn’t fish or where others will have a hard time getting too. George Daniels has a good vid on youtube on it he explains real well it’s a longer vid but that’s all you need to watch and you’ll get it it’s pretty easy not as difficult as typical fly fishing with a float line and stuff
