I'm fly fishing a wilderness stream in Colorado and the hopper bite gets good! Adding a dropper picked up any picky fish. This stream had browns, cutthroat and brook trout!

I love fishing for Trout with Hoppers. My favorite time of the year. Trout seem to lose all inhibitions when grass hoppers are hitting the water in numbers and they begin to key in on them. Watching a big Brown charge out from under a cut bank to hammer the bug simply can't be beat. Another great video Drew. I too like the voice over commentary.

As ever, great scenery, great fishing, great fish, great commentary that tells us enough, no more, no less, and in no way intrusive or OTT.

Good job searching and catching those beautifully colored fish. Im living in the tropics of Bali and haven't been able to travel back and fish the Rockies much these past few years. Watching your videos is the next best thing. I like the videos with and without commentary

Said the same on the last video, but liking the commentary over the top on these ones. Have learnt a lot from watching you fish, particularly how to fish the whole of a pool. Pretty sure I used to catch one fish and move to the next pool until I saw how you did it. And the commentary just assists in the teaching. Thanks Drew.

Hopper fishing is the best!! When I was in Idaho (inspired by your travels to the region), I loved fishing on lesser known streams and fishing hopper-dropper rigs. And sometimes the hopper was all that was needed!!

Great video. So much action on that little creek. What main river is this creek feeding into, if I can ask? I fish mostly the Eastern Sierras here in CA but I want to take my son to CO next year.

great video and perseverance! Are you typically running a 4x tapered leader in those small streams or are you stepping down from a level leader as needed?

Really cool stream drew, I take it that's a blueline stream. I love fishing those types of streams, as you found out there just might be a nice surprise in the next run. Enjoyed watching. 👍

Exploring these small remote streams and learning what they hold is crazy fun...even when they start a little slow. The thrill is the adventure!

I dont think I ever used 5x in my life. Fish here in Jersey and PA seen it all. I use 7x and sometimes, maybe 6x with size 22 and 24 flies and we catch some dandy browns in PA.

Sweet! Until I can get to the Rocky’s I’ll keep pounding on them in NC. But I will get there one day. Thanks for taking us along…. So, my question is why such a short rod? I’m trying to learn how to run a dry dropper rig on a 10’ nymphing rod. Thanks again.
@DoubleBtmBouncer
@DoubleBtmBouncer 9 месяцев назад
He'd have a hard time with a 10' rod in those creeks The rods wider then the creek. He wouldn't be able to to swing and 10' rod with all that brush around him and his casting is limited distance. 10' rod would cause nothing but problems.
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 9 месяцев назад
Yup, exactly what the other comment says. I use my 10ft on larger, less covered streams. 7.5 or my 8.5' fishes better in tight spots. I walk thru the 3 lengths of rods I choose/why in this video...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RS5mksxL190.htmlfeature=shared

@LooknFishy I'd love to do some hopper dropper fishing but here in NJ & PA, we just don't have the amount of grass hoppers as out west. I nymph a lot under a lightning football indicator. Usually to a size 18 egg I tie with a 22 or 24 rs2 emerger on the bottom with 7x, sometimes 6x. Id love to use 5x, make it a lot easier fighting these fish but the fights what we r there for

Commented on last video but I’ve been watching your videos for a long time and live In colorado myself and I’m looking for streams. Is there a reason you don’t tell us where you fish? And could you tell use where this is?
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 9 месяцев назад
I don't name them in youtube vids for several reasons. I've seen first hand what hot spotting does. A guy named a bunch of streams in the driftless a few years ago. Prior to that I went for years and fished a few he named any saw low crowds. Now...one of those streams had 10 cars on it. Banks littered. Small streams like this can't take the pressure that comes from being posted on social media. Another reason is the hateful comments (not yours) I get...nearly every video someone leaves a disrespectful comment...if I named streams I'd be helping those types of people find amazing places to fish. BUT... I do share...more accurately trade with people. But that only works if you don't name them for the general public. I also don't hide anything intentionally and definitely leave hints for those that follow my adventures but those are often missed unless the vids are watched in order or only a few minutes. For example I've done 2-two month road trips and those trips are shared in order. In them I left the maps I used, talked about local stops for supplies, the national forest I was in, etc. ... some called it bread crumbs and appreciated that they found a stream how it looked in the vid. Some left an angry comment bc in their words, I shared too much...even a baby could find it. I also did 2 vids on how I find streams. In the end, there's no way to please everyone. I just consider my channel my online adventure journal but allow it to be public.

@@LooknFishy I appreciate you commenting back. Still love your content and I understand completely. Keep fishing colorado! I’ll keep a better lookout for some I’ve lived in colorado my entire life so I can usually tell where it is just by looking at it but some of the ones you go to are hard to spot. Again love your videos 🙏 just watched your most recent
