Trow and Holden's carbide-tipped Mason's Chipper offers a beveled blade for rock facing, trimming or squaring stone. A Mason's Chipper is one of the tools supplied in our Masonry Tool Set.
I am doing amateur stonework at home. In Australia, far from T&H agents in the big cities. And I don’t have the professional’s budget either. But I follow to learn, and at least when choosing among inferior tools, get ones that are at least a little bit closer to the mark.
The local granite plants in Barre, VT routinely use the Mason's Chipper or it's cousins, the Offset Hand Set and the Hand Set, to cut Red Granite or the even harder S. African Black granite. Granted, the Mason's Chipper would be used for lighter trimming cuts (eg. straighten a line) but the regular Hand Set is capable of taking very large cuts with excellent results. Let me know if you would like to try it! Norm-Trow and Holden Co.
Hello - There are pretty good chisel cutting sounds on the Carbide Hand Set Video , Carbide Hand Tracer Video and the Offset Hand Set Video. You can find links to these videos at our website or look them up on RU-vid. Please feel free to use any of the video soundtracks (you can save the soundtrack as a .wav file using Microsoft Media Center or a video editing program). If you need any assistance, please let us know. Thanks! Norm-T&H
Would you using a pointing chisel to clean the face up after the work you did? I need a tool for soft-hard limestone and have trouble with flat face walls.
What were the T&H Winding Blocks used for? And also, The heavy "L - Shaped" Lettering Block. . .? These are Remnant tools that are at our shop, but haven't been used for many years! Please send an answer!! Thanks!
Here's a link to a website www.quincyquarrymuseum.org/virtual-museum.html that has some pictures of old tools including the Lettering and Winding blocks. I'll get some more information from our literature archives on both of these items and will post them soon. Thanks! - Norm/T&H

I need some stone cutter sound effects. Some without any power tools. I need them to reflect the 1870's. I'm producing a video about the history of the construction of the Logan Temple in Utah. Can you give me some suggestions? I'd appreciate it!
A tracer is for splitting a stone. the split should be at least 3 to 4 inches away from face. A chipper is for taking off stone closer to edge or face. If used correctly one could rock face or dress the stone.
Where's the culture stone? Sadly there will near nobody left to trim a piece of real stone soon. I have some of your hammers and they are great. Perfect weight and you can work all day without fatigue.
You must have watched every masonry related video on RU-vid I always see you in the comments of almost every video definitely every channel from this one 9 years ago right up to that Spanish guy roh that just started posting like 4 weeks ago
Good work mate but learn to relax your wrist so any shock doesn't travel up to your neck region. I been working with stone from the age 16, and now 49. You shouldn't also wear any ring or a watch.
Literally evert single video ends with the demo showing half the job. How about showing the entire face being done. Anyone can chip the edge of a stone. Do the face and show us the carbide doesn’t blow apart. I was literally just in the store buying your hammer until I talk myself out of it after reading about the carbide constantly breaking if you use the wrong part. I am new to this so I don’t know how hard the tool can be used before it breaks. Unfortunately you don’t show it so I walked
