New subscriber here. Ernie Hatmaker recommended your channel and I’m glad she did. We’ve been considering getting one of these and have had good luck with other Troy-Bilt gas powered pieces of equipment. Thanks

We dont have this brand, but one that we use in a similar fashion and its the BOMB, I love it!

I had a Southland before this one and it really had the power to get through tall field grass

We have an Echo hand held, but this looks great to go under fences (and it's on wheels! Thanks for sharing :)

That cutter is a beast lot easier than using a weed wacker.Good job on the review.Have good night.

I find it’s easier on the arms rather than holding a weed wackier. Thanks for watching.

Really like Troy built, their mowers can take allot of punishment. If my goats don't work as well as I want them to, may have to get one of these

The goats will do the job, but when they eat everything you might have to buy hay for them. I'd like to borrow a couple goats for two months a year.

Nice review! That looks very efficient for cleaning up large areas. Another big positive with it being a string trimmer over blade, is if it hits something hard you can replace the string instead of damaging your blade.
@HomeNorth

Absolutely.

Is the string widely available?
@GardeningwithBarchuckin
@GardeningwithBarchuckin Год назад
@@timothykeith1367 I’m not sure for your area but I did a quick search, homedepot sells a different model that is 22” deck and has a .155 string available in a 100’ length. Hope that helps!

I have a 32 year old Craftsman version of this trimmer. Mine has a 6 HP Briggs on it. I don't think you have to hold the handle down to start it. On mine the handle engages the string head. You start it with the handle released then pull the handle down to engage the strings.
@HomeNorth
@HomeNorth 3 года назад
That sounds like a nice option as then I could take a break and not have the trimmer shut right off on me. Thanks for watching. 😀

I could really use one of those. I bet that really is handy like you said in tall grass.

It’s great for areas I’m afraid to take the riding mower. We have lots of rocks here and it’s one thing to hit a rock with a string - and another to hit it with a blade and chip it.

@@HomeNorth I know that’s right. It would be great for cutting under fences too it seems.

That works pretty good! Do you soak your line for 3 days prior to using it? I just got a DR and it recommends to do that. I cant wait to do a review on it as well. I like the way the string goes in the Troybuilt! It looks easy to manage. Great review! Get that cat more boxes! 😂

Thanks for watching. I haven’t soaked the strings but maybe I will give that a try. I think I remember reading somewhere that you should lol. Oh well next time.

I bought one , actually two, from Home Depot. It’s a great machine until it isn’t. One lasted less than 15 minutes before it just quit. The diagnostics say it wasn’t a fuel issue, it was an ignition problem . The ignition module went out which can happen to any new piece of equipment so I returned it to Home Depot who immediately accepted it back and credited my account. I ordered another that arrived about four days later as they donot stock this trimmer. Fired up beautifully on the second pull and ran for about an hour and quit. Same issue. Now too be fair i later found out the two came from the same run which could account for the problem.

Great video. How has it been holding up so far? Did you have to replace the internal belt? You mentioned you had a Southland trimmer before, and it had more power than what you have now?

The Troy Bilt is still running with no repairs yet.
@resoluteoutdoors

How much more effective is this then a typically hand held string trimmer? Is it worth the extra investment?
@HomeNorth
@HomeNorth 3 года назад
I have seen this machine take down some pretty tall grass and weeds. It has a hard time catching some of the thicker stalked weeds. But the biggest reason we use this is to prevent carrying all that weight of a hand held trimmer on our hands and arms. Thanks for the questions.

i have one.....if the weeds are under 24 inches you can pretty much cut them like a slow lawnmower.......when the grass and weeds are over 6 feet tall they'll wrap around and choke the machine to a stall.....clearing the debris is most of the battle when the weeds are that big. It gives you a uniform level result with ease and isn't bothered much by loose branches or stones......but if you tangle with brush or wire you'll snap your strings off pronto.

Will it cut blackberry vines or stalks?

Hmm I don’t think it would do much more than 1/4 inch thick. Or less. It works best on thick grass
