Troy Corser's 1929 BMW R57 Compressor lets Fred Walmsley's 1953 Norton Manx he's passing him in a unique way during part 2 of the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy at Revival. #GoodwoodRevival
Theres a nut on top of the seat that you can adjust to get more speed out of pretty much any bike. If the current nut isnt doing the job then replace with one that has a Corser thread.
Das ist Motorsport aller erster Klasse. Einmal Rennfahrer, immer Rennfahrer. Und wieder ein Beweis das Oldtimerrennen nicht langweilig sind. Weiter so!!
That bike would be outrun by most modern bikes for under 6 grand. But that's obviously not the point. This bike is the cause that compressors are and were banned in motorcycle racing. I think the point is, that the excitement of racing doesn't come from lap times. It's from interaction between man and machine. Smooth is fast, but smooth is boring,
Yes, co-ordinating the blip of throttle very precisely with the shift lever movement. I suspect the gear dogs have been specially modified to facilitate this.
Martijn Jonkers Heh, my dad and his 2 bros were flattrackers back in the 60s before the Japanese invasion. I thought me and my pals rode pretty good but those old guys leave us in the dust on backroads with bikes that spec out weak in comparison to newer stuff. Apparently once ya have it, it’s like getting back on the horse, you never lost it.
@@Starfield6824 yea that was a real championship of 2 halves on the Alstare bike. Troy blitzed them early & then Vermeulen and Nori sort of halved the 2nd half of the season.
Beautiful old bikes and sounds! In some parts (eg. on 0:33 - 0:37) the video looks like speeded up (like some old "Mad Max" movies) - but watch the clock - that's real speed! Piloting this bikes is hard work, RESPECT! (Friend of mine had a 750 Laverda SF-1, that was also such a piece of ART. )
I wonder if having minimal suspension allows the bike to react more predictably allowing you to push harder? Or be able to feel where the grip is? Or is it just a legendary rider?
Because hes a professional at riding motorcycles far faster than that 1 you have to imagine that hes faster than anyone who ever rode that bike in its day. You could almost say the bike was never meant to go that fast. Top notch Engineering to hold up to that kind of thrashing.
I am not sure what is more impressive. How well that 90y old BMW runs on a race track or the amount of pure natural talent displayed by Corser manhandling that old lady around the track at 125 mph, scraping hardware in corners. Every new rider should watch this. Just fantastic to watch.
Resurrecting an old post here but yeah Corser looked totally at ease on that old BMW. I think very few people could have put together a faster lap time on it. I think if you put him on that bike on an 'advanced' track day, he would be lapping some modern day superbikes.
wow. That was genuinely impressive. Anyone who hasn't shifted a bike like that has no idea how challenging it is. To do it at 120mph+ around a race track....holy shit.
@@neiltitmus9744 As the story goes the supercharged BMWs dominated the prewar Isle of Man TT and were so loud they could be heard on either side of the Irish Sea
I'm just wonderin why nobody talks bout what Manzi did before that happened...that was exactely tryin to kill fenati in another way, and then lied at the race direction, but nobody cares...
@Matte Muso, I found a video of some of the "incidents" and didn't see anything that i would look at and say were deliberate attempts to run in to another rider. In both cases Manzi was clearly ahead and as such it is correct for him to take his line. If Fenati wants to try and stuff his bike down the inside, or try and run someone wide, and they hold their ground then it's clearly his (Fenati's) fault. www.motorcyclesports.net/motogp/video-see-what-manzi-did-that-led-fenati-to-lose-his-temper/ about 1 minute in they show some other incidents.
@@Cynyr sorry bro, but maybe u confused the bikes, look at the first episode, manzi that was behind fenati (and nobody of them was fightin for some important positions or for the championship) tried a fuckin impossible line at a fuckin impossible speed just to try to overtake in a moment he couldn't, that was causin a fuckin crash, and for me that is bas as what fenati did. Second episode is nothin he just overtook, i'm not tryin to justify nobody but don't tell me manzi did nothin. The fault is on both riders, for me at the same level.
Switch passports and everyone would try to make a case for Corser while this gesture would be deemed ”cocky” by the bs British media if done by Fenati.
Troy Corser was a two time WSBK Champion in the golden era of the 90s with riders like Bayliss,Fogarty,Kocinsky,Yanagawa,Haga,Russell etc.The man knows how to ride
This has to be one of the greatest Motorsport performances of all time Hats off to Troy having a bit of a laugh and joke while literally riding the wheels off of that BMW and hats off to John too for his great sportsmanship
Troy Corser rode the WSBK championship in it's most competitive era with Fogarty, Slight, Kocinski, Kagayama, Chili, Edwards, Bayliss all battling it out and he would've definitely won more world titles had he been in another era. The way he is manhandling that 85 year old BMW with no suspension, drum brakes, skinny tyres, shifting using the left hand taking it off the handlebar, shows how naturally gifted a rider he is!
Yeah, Remember him on the first b.m. 1000 rr in w.S.B.racing. Had some good rides in 2010. And of course blitzing everyone in 1996 on a Ducati, and yes,Very strong opposition. He had a long career and then won title again 9 years later on a suzuki. Raced at top level for 16 years so not surprising to see him blowing opposition away on a 89 year old bike. What a rider, and that bike, awesome to watch!
Visakh Asok Troy Corser is one if not the most talented rider Australia has ever produced. There’s some good vids on RU-vid showing his amazing ability. One was when he was called back from super bikes to ride the duke to fill in for an injured rider and blew everyone away. Even after not riding a motogp bike for so long. He should be given an award for his contribution to motor sport. Bloody legend!
What you don't get from the video is the absolute monstrous roar that BMW produces, I was hanging over the fence as this happened and not even the howl from that machine could hide the cheering from the crowd. An absolut favourite moment.
Competition regulations changed between the late 20's and early 50's, a supercharged 500cc with about 70-75 HP vs an NA 500cc producing 55-60 HP, that difference can obviously void the handicap of not having any suspension ;) (As a comparison, a BRM Grand Prix (Formula 1 predecessor) car from 1955 had a supercharged 1500cc V16 giving out 450-600 HP, but 1965 they used 200 HP NA 1500 cc Engines)
I think Troy deserved the rider/driver of the meeting for this outstanding performance . What is not mentioned is this bike is turbocharged. So in addition to the hand gear change, zero suspension the turbo lag adds to the challenge.
