That “can TikTok access the home Wifi network” question was so stupid and you can tell how ignorant Troy is about China and it’s internet policies because although monitoring does play a role, it’s more about competition and profit than anything. Literally last week a lawsuit was filed against Apple for purposefully disabling its connections with non-Apple products just so it can gain more customers in the U.S.. In other countries Apple is nowhere near as possible and there exists technology of even better quality for much lower costs. Your connection going out in China is just them holding American companies to that same standard of competition and not allowing a, say, Verizon to have complete dominion over the internet network. Also Tiktok is banned in China but they do have Duoyin which is very similar.

I think its ignorant to assume that the avg tiktok influencer just doesn't work outside of their phone or the app, like people have multiple streams of income and tiktok doesn't pay that well unless you're REALLY big
I see a lot of the TikTok influencers in the “influencer city” show there always on the move and never seen them in a 9-5 job so a lot of them are really big

I consume Tiktok through RU-vid. I could never get around to enjoying the UI. Im 20 so i grew on on long form content but recently YT shorts have been serving me some good recipes to try and I'm sure most TikTok people can migrate successfully on here if shit goes south
i'm your age and also wasn't used to tiktok at first, but it slowly grew on me. I remember a few years ago people saying tiktok is for the stupid masses and kids, and it's come far from that. And ngl, the UI beats youtube shorts / ig reels by a mile.

im glad that people are making a decent income on tiktok, but i feel like they shouldn't only rely on tiktok to make their money because no one promised them that they will always have a job working on that platform and it's not guaranteed to always be around, so if it does get banned then it would be better for them to have some other type of income to fall back on.

@@darkskinkeisha fr. I like Troyce but he is insensitive at times. If you know about his history with his family, then you’ll clearly see where he gets it from. Hopefully he realises the way that they affected his empathy levels and does something about it. Because I can be the same way. Sometimes those of us from families like ours grow up detached from emotions and just view things logically, but we do have to learn to empathise - even if it’s only a little bit.

The social credit score in China doesn't have much to do with actual credit, but it's more along the lines of "how trustworthy are you?" It's to keep people like scammers, or anyone who just causes a scene massive inconvenience so that they can't spread their crap around as easily. That's why they won't let you buy train/plane/bus tickets when your score is too low. There are other punishments too, if I recall...

Tik Tok has offices in NYC and LA. Bytedance has an office in Palo Alto. They pay taxes to the US. The issue is the collecting of info pertaining to US citizens to be used against us... no pun intended. You can radicalize whole groups of people if you collect enough info, to tailor your message specifically.
If you were lucky enough to make some bread off TikTok and gotta get a job now, that’s your fault for not having the foresight that a foreign app may not be the most dependable income.
