In this video I spend less than $200 in material and build a completely weatherproof truck camper for my F-150. This camper extension makes the 5 1/2 foot bed of my truck 7 1/2 feet long which allows me to sleep comfortably and protected from the elements. The camper extensions slides into my topper and slides out onto the tailgate when I need it. When pushed back into the bed of my truck the tailgate folds up and my cap window closes making the extension disappear.

That is a very nice camper addition. We had a VW van in 60-70s that we made into a camper van with bed and cabinet in the back. Lots of camping fun. Way to go Scott. 💖

Personally I would of left it as a large single door and used gas lifters with a piano hinge on the top so it opens just like the canopy glass does. Would be easier to seal, but the barn doors look good too. Nice work!

You won't find a less expensive exterior finish than poor man's fiberglass, it also will last longer, be waterproof, and need the least, maintenance. Whatever you choose, I would definitely recommend redoing all of the joints with a polyurethane construction adhesive like PLpremium. I built a plywood teardrop using screws only to hold joints together until the glue cured. Then I removed the screws and filled the holes with more adhesive. Screws and nails expand and shrink with heat, eventually making the holes larger and allowing water and rot in. I love the idea, I'm about to buy a short bed truck myself and plan on an extension of some sort similar to this idea, only built out of foam. I built a second teardrop camper and a a whole bunch of kayaks out of 2" foam skinned with painted fabric, it's tougher and lighter than you can imagine

I wanted to do this to my E350 XL but itd pull out like 8-10ft and then pop down below so I could have standing room. It had a 12ft long cargo area which was pretty huge. I wanted to put it on garage door tracks with a fold down wheel on the end so it slides out easily, then make it so it could fully disconnect and I'd basically have a little cabin that I can drop off.

There's s guy with a Tacoma pickup that had done something similar to this, I think he been living in it over 5 years. It has a movie projector in it. To help with the rigidity of your build I would have added 2x2 braces from the sides to the top of the angled pieces and 2X2 pieces angle cut along the length of the edge where the two angled pieces meet. I would also add some runners length wise under the floor so it slides in/out straight every time.

You could have just planed or ground the corners of the frame at the top of the doors to a downward and diagonal angle and slightly planed the uprights to knock the inside 90 degree off and had the doors tighter together, and rebating the hinges would have been a tidier job ...I'm not picking at your work Scott, as you've did a fine job, just letting you know how I'd have went about it.
