I had to work some OT on Saturday so I did not get to truck camp like I wanted to this weekend. Today I set out to explore more areas where I could just park my Toyota Tundra, set out the ARB awning, and just chill. I found about 5 more sites along South Ogala Horse Camp Road in the Hoosier National Forest and one of the sites is big enough for about 5-6 rigs for a group camp. I also made a visit to Sundance Lake and shot some drone footage there. Overall, I think these trips are very productive because it gives me good ideas on where to go for the future. A couple of the sites were next to a pond, which is pretty relaxing to look at. Had a fantastic day and the weather was perfect

Can you actually car camp right at Sundance Lake or do you have to drive somewhere else to one of those other sites you were at?
@thathikingguy
@thathikingguy 9 месяцев назад
There’s a parking lot there but there are a couple of tent sites close by. You can sleep in your car in the parking lot if you want to as well

The 3rd spot used to have an amazing fire pit! Someone must have torn it down. Glad you found it!

What roads/trails are you going down to find these spots?
@thathikingguy
@thathikingguy Год назад
My process is to go to google earth and look for national forest. I look for roads that go through the densest parts of it and go drive that road. Easiest way to find spots.

seas are more or less the same, a change in temp or more salt than another. rivers are more or less the same throughout the world but lakes are special.. very mystical.. all kinds of different properties. some are toxic, some are the purest waters on the planet. i love the uncertainty surrounding them.. some can kill a village over night by releasing dangerous gasses, yet some hold secrets with underwater cave systems and hidden animal species etc.. simply amazing..

Tara Fowler sux! Those are some good sites just waiting for masses of humanity to flood in and turn into an autonomous zone or a festive zone or a summer of love zone.

Hey love your vids! Taking my Tacoma and rtt to go camping this weekend there! I do have a question. Coming down from the fishers area and have never been here before. Where do I put in my map to get to a trail to find these spots. I was going to just put in Hickory Ridge Look out tower and start looking from there. Wasn’t sure if there was a specific spot I should put in my GPS so I don’t have to drive around forever. I’ve looked everywhere online and can’t seem to find an answer. Thanks for any help and I’ll let you know how my weekend goes!

The best way to find the pull offs is to get on google maps or earth and search for hoosier National Forest. Look for roads going through dense parts of the forest and make note of the street name. And then set a pin and drive to it. That was the exact process I used to find these.

What app do you use to mark your trails, and can you explain how its done?
@thathikingguy
@thathikingguy 4 года назад
I use Google maps for truck camping sites. I can do a video on it. It’s not difficult once you do it once. Basically just dropping a pin by long pressing on your phone screen and then there is a label function that you can call it what you like

Some great spots but the road noise ruins the feeling of being in the great outdoors at some of them.... but every spot has its downside I guess!
@thathikingguy
@thathikingguy 4 года назад
Yeah that’s true. That’s why I like the ones farther off the road.

do you have locations for these sites by chance?
@thathikingguy
@thathikingguy 4 года назад
Hey thanks for watching. I did but somehow they all got deleted from my account. Now I have to start over. The process I use is just to go to google earth find a road that passes through the National Forest and then drive down the road looking for pull offs. That has been the only effective way I’ve found to find the sites. Thanks for watching
