On December 2nd, 2023 I was heading to my yard where I park my truck in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. As I reached my yard, I saw 4-5 police cars and 2 ambulances that were blocking 500 meters of the yard’s entrance. So I parked my car in the parking lot beside the yard and walked over to my truck as usual to make an inspection of my vehicle since I was leaving the following day for a long haul. As I approached the yard, I noticed 3 fire trucks lined up that utilized the fire hydrant outside of the yard to channel water through the hoses, leaving the parking lot covered with webs of hoses.
I approached the firefighter near the entrance, asking if I could check on my truck that was near the smoke-filled area and was directed to speak to the sergeant who was wearing a yellow helmet. As directed, I went inside the yard heading towards my truck and was pointed in the direction of the sergeant by another firefighter. On arrival of the scene, I asked the sergeant if I could access my truck for my usual inspections and was told I could proceed doing so. Before heading towards my truck I ask what happened to the trucks that caught on fire in front of mine and was told that the owner of the 2 trucks informed the police officers near the entrance that he had 2 mechanics working on his truck for welding projects. The owner is not aware of when and how the fire started since he wasn’t present at the scene and those who were: the two mechanics went to the hospital immediately. However the sergeant assured me it was safe to access my truck since the fire was under control and the fire fighters were just figuring out what started the fire. After hearing about what happened, I remembered I had a dash cam in my truck that would’ve recorded the fire and was directed by the sergeant to retrieve the recorded footage.
Then I retrieved the video and showed it to the sergeant and posted it here so the video is accessible to be watched anytime if needed.

Incredible dash cam coverage. I find it strange that the company that was doing welding did not carry any fire extinguishers. I guess they just bought two new trucks and maybe have to pay for damaged and lost wages too. The white van did not have any company name on it so... maybe the didn't have any insurance either. Being a firefighter I bet none of the armchair critics know anything about what they are saying. Firefighters can't levitate to a fire scene in seconds and it takes a little preparation to get water on a fire. The way the idiots were running around like chickens with their heads cut off picking up their tools so they could beat feet out of there rather than use an extinguisher they are required to carry on their service truck is pitiful.

Lesson Welders:Never weld on a vehicle surrounded by other vehicles other than at your own premises, where you will be ready to deal with a fire 1st 10 seconds to a minute . -Pull truck away from others. -Have fire fighting equipment on hand . -Surrounded by many other vehicles(Lots of value), have extra person on lookout for fire ready to act. If you NEVER think about this and be prepared(Easy in comparison), the above will happen to you........

@appleintosh I wouldn't rule out diesel tbh. Rule of thumb is never weld on diesel tanks without removing it and cleaning it first. Also I know diesel doesn't explode 🙄, but you get anything that's petroleum based hot enough to start off gassing and build up vapors and then introduce a little bit of oxygen like a open tank lid then you'll have the perfect storm for a little poof of flame that'll start everything else on fire inside or around it. Nice try though bro.

Also the so called welders got out of there pretty quick and we're not seen for the rest off the film. It's my belief this was very early morning and they were trying to steal parts off the trucks.

Honest question here... Why do the fire fighters work on the trucks that are already a total loss first, rather than working to protect the 3rd truck that is still salvageable? They immediately put water on the two fully involved rigs, rather than starting on the side of the 2nd and 3rd trucks to minimize the damage to #3. I see this happen in many places... here in Oregon in recent years we've had some boat moorage fires... rather than first working to save partially or not yet involved vessels, they start on the total losses. I watched three boats go from slightly damaged to fully involved, when they could have been saved by quick action and a focus on preventing further losses. I'm genuinely interested in what I seem to be missing... any firefighters here that can explain this?
@wesley00042

So many questions.. like why no fire extinguisher, and even if the morons doing the welding didn't have one why didn't they run into the building and alert anyone? i'm sure there's one inside there somewhere, also, why just move your van back just a few feet when it's obvious the fire is out of control and could explode or spread? and the biggest question, why not get someone to move the other trucks beside it before they all went up. The one right next to it may have been too risky, but i would have at least move the ones two trucks down just in case it spread more. They are SO lucky the fire dept showed up as quickly as they did or that entire parking lot would have went up.

Trucks are usually supposed to have fire extinguishers, not one of the many trucks already there had one, too bad!

I dont understand why these guys were welding without protecting their surroundings which clearly they were not. Good luck on collecting insurance. on this because these workes are clearly liable for this.KUDOS to the fire dept and firefighters. On the scene and water going on the fire in 5 minutes flat fire out in under 2 minutes after arrival

There are cuts in the video. Watch the timestamp from the dashcam: eleven minutes from first boom to first firefighter appearing on camera, four minutes from water on the fire to having it well under control. Still excellent response times. As for the dimwits who started the fire... let's just say they should find new lines of work.

4 min 30sec between first smoke and first water jet, that is super.

Were there no fire extinguishers around? The idiots in the van just stood there hoping that through a process of osmosis if they just stared at the fire long enough it would put itself out...

I’m just glad no one was injured or worse and I hope the young men who were welding were not seriously injured! You may replace your trucks but you will never replace a life! That was hard to watch. 😮😢

I believe they did not have proper ground before welding and maybe forgot to put the welding blanket around the tire area.
