Wondering how to live in a small truck camper? Meet Will, who lived in his Toyota Tacoma slide-in camper by Travel Lite. By dropping his camper, he was able to get great MPG with the Tacoma as a daily driver, and have a great home for a week or two--then move on when his feet started to itch!! What a great life!

Bob is such a good person. He allowed this man to be proud of all of his upgrades and his story when he knows we've heard it many many times but he let him have his happiness and praised him for his choices and I think that's so admirable. Another great video by a super sweet man 😊 Thanks Bob for sharing.

I'll tell you when you're deciding on what type of camper what type of vehicle what type of rig you can or might possibly own it's so important to hear about all the possibilities and all the intricacies of making the proper decision because you will be living with them.
@zorroonmilkavitch1840
@zorroonmilkavitch1840 5 лет назад
@Hammerback0 interesting that you would talk about your 454 motor I've got a Chrysler I believe it's a 4:40 and I want to tell you this motorhome has many positive attributes but one of them was not good gas mileage I remember somehow spending $20 to go up a hill in New Jersey when I had little gas in the tank and I remember I put in $20 and when I got to the top of the hill there was no gas in the tank I mean you really got to understand that this home that you're going to use is for just getting somewhere and living in it and not to be used as a vehicle it's the price of getting to where you're going is a little costly but just remember the luxury that you have when you are stable and not driving it anywhere but again you got to weigh the costs
@zorroonmilkavitch1840
@zorroonmilkavitch1840 5 лет назад
@Hammerback0 but by the way considering taking up the lifestyle could be one of the best decisions you've ever made in your life I was a ski bum in Colorado for 20 some odd years I went all over the West I skied around Utah mostly Colorado but having a motorhome was so freeing and so wonderful the day you take off on your journey should be one of the best days of your life

Instead of watching a movie I always come to Bob's channel and get lost in an alternate reality of life. It's a REALITY SHOW in the true sense and organic entertainment as well. For those who live in the cities just try to see from my perspective, it becomes a move for you that's real at the same time.

Bob, you are just such a good person and interviewer. I've been in the hospital the last month, I'm 34 and have Cystic Fibrosis - a genetic lung disease, and have always been a fan of your videos but have been watching them more routinely since I've had the time. Your videos, interviews, interviewees and advice are just so good. I've been wanting to hit the road myself for quite some time but because of the CF and being on disability it always felt like maybe it wasn't in the cards for me. But after watching your videos and being able to see so many people in my exact position who are able to do this and have this pride in their lifestyle and independence.. it's just really inspiring, dude. Thanks for doing what you do and helping keep the hope alive in me. It means more than you know

Hey guys, just wanted to drop a line and say thanks for this video in particular, I was inspired a year and half ago to set up a shelter for myself starting with a 03 dakota, and a cheap truck cap, then later I picked up an old slide in truck camper, for $250.00! These videos help us all who are seeking a escape from the rat race, to not make all the sort of "rookie" mistakes setting up a self sufficient set up, and trade offs. I've been an OTR truck driver for almost 20 years, but I never really got to stop and just enjoy life on my terms. I've been Nomadic so long, I can't see not doing it this way. Love the videos, Love the info, and thanks again!

My Dometic refrigerator actually works pretty well, I never switch to 12 volt, just use propane all the time. The freezer is very cold. In extreme conditions (like Burning man) i make ice in the freezer in stackable silicone ice cube trays and put it in tubs at the bottom of the fridge. When it melts, it goes back in the freezer. I added some 12 v computer fans in the fridge which helps a lot. A secret to a successful use of a Dometic fridge is a thermometer so you know when you need to break out the ice.

Bob, I love your videos. This is another great informative video. That setup appears to be working out well for him. He selected a lighter weight camper for his smaller truck, for good reason. I advise people to look at the door sticker on their vehicle to see what weight the vehicle was designed to carry. GVWR -Gross Vehicle Weight Rating Front GAWR - Gross Axle Weight Rating for the front axle Rear GAWR - Gross Axle Weight Rating for the rear axle Also look at the tire pressure sticker. It will show the total weight you can add to the vehicle, for the given tire sizes. I install the larger recommended tire size shown on the sticker on my trucks, for that reason. The curb weight was the weight of the vehicle when it came from the factory. You need to know this number. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating minus the curb weight will tell you how much weight you can add to the vehicle. Adding airbags does not increase the vehicles weight carrying capacity. The airbags simply level out the vehicle when carrying a heavy load and make the ride better when carrying a load. I have two trucks. A Ford F-150 and a Toyota Tundra. I have exceeded the payload weight rating on both trucks by a lot for short distances, less than twenty miles on paved roads. Exceeding the weight ratings for long term driving over rough terrain could result in an axle failure and premature wheel bearing failures. If you want a heavier truck camper that has everything, consider going with a one ton truck instead of a half-ton truck. I am posting this information for people who may not be aware of weight ratings and where to find them. Pickup trucks are tough and can handle the occasional overload, but no one needs a broken axle out in the middle of nowhere.

I love the Tacoma pickup, my16 yr old son and I just purchased together for him an 06 with all the factory recall upgrades with 150,000 miles for $8grnd and he plans on using it for his camping and adventuring. I'm currently running a 3/4-ton 4x4 Silverado long bed and pulling a CM 3horse living quarters horse trailer, love the comforts of a warm/cool dry place to eat,sleep & hang out while I'm in camp. The back area is where I store my 4whlr or a dualsport motorcycle as well as tools,inverter generator,air compressor,floor jacks,extra water,fuel even a small 120 amp mig welder for off road emergency repairs. My setup is a bit more than most nomads but it's what I like and suits me and my needs, it's a good feeling to pull into a camp community area and be able to help out others because I have all my tools and equipment with me. I've helped folks repack wheel bearings, rewiring issues, fixed a couple broken welds on their rigs,(I'm certified in structural welding) I'm currently still working for a living but enjoy travel/camping,hunting and fishing trips and socializing with other like minded travelers out on the road. Love your RU-vid channel Bob, keep up the good work and may God bless and keep everyone safe in your travels and endeavors.

I've been living in mine 6.5 weeks out of year for the last 2 years during my summer holidays. In this video they mention the good mileage. I got the same camper but the bigger model with a shower inside sitting on a 2014 f150 extended cab with a v8. I get 14,8 to 19 depending on the weather speed and terrain. I definitely recommend my truck and camper bigger truck and indoor shower, plus better mileage. This video is great though. I m definitely going to install a similar solar system to keep the battery charged without it these campers run out of juice after a week of use if you take showers use the lights without plugging them to recharge. I like this guy's showering method though. These campers come with a port a potty also.

Great rig. I had a 1/2 Chevy once & had a Six Pac camper. Although a small brand, it was in those days still too heavy for a 1/2 truck & I blew out my differential due to the weight. These newer light units work better. The only thing I would add about his set up is that unless things have changed, the crank operated lifters are designed to raise or lower the camper off the truck, & not to support the weight of the camper when standing alone. When off the truck it should be supported underneath as well.

This is the rig (without the amenities) I wanted for so many years, although my dream was smaller with a pass thru window. BUT! It's too much for me. And I would have to get out of the cab to access the living area and vice versa to get into the cab to leave. Not practical or safe for an old lady. I love my van and put this out dated dream to rest. Great helpful information here. Thanks Bob and to the retired Yogi for opening his home 😊

This is my style. I grew up camping in river camps that only had a propane refrigerator and stove so I'm happy with a rig like this. My Coleman solar shower bag serves me well. Solar power is something I should try.

My girlfriend has a Toyota Tacoma, like this in the video, and it’s a bulletproof reliable truck. But, like it’s owner indicates, the truck is small and really is a one person rig. Great one person rig here! Thanks for creating and sharing this video!

Really enjoyed this video. Love that you stuck to functionality and stayed away from decor as so many of the videos out there seem to drift towards. Very well done by both interviewer and speaker. I'm researching my setup for a tundra and came way with some great ideas. Thank you

That is what this out of hand capitalistic materialism does to enjoying the outdoors. It makes us think we got to be inside to go outside crazy huh! We have gone waco! And we think it is normal, we are the weirdest most complicated generation in the history of humanity too educated and complex to possibly enjoy anything.

@@tammywines9789 Hi Tammy, ( it isn't cheap but very cheap by comparison.)...a well planned light backpack setup, and going even just 2 miles into the wilderness away from the thronging crowds and I'm far happier than with anything else. Somewhere on a rock, with a tree and a bird, and a little stove for a hot cup of tea.

wow. only 1,100 lbs dry? that's amazing. I thought for sure that I would need a 3/4 or 1 ton truck to use a truck camper. thanks for this video. using a half ton pickup will be a lot cheaper. and I really don't think I need a shower or toilet. If I'm out camping I can just use the methods that were shown in the video for that. And if I'm boondocking, I can just get a gym membership.

Used to have A Tundra, loved it. Downsized to a Tacoma thinking better gas mileage - wrong. Same gas mileage as a full sized Tundra loaded or unloaded, didn't matter. Tacoma has a 6 cyl engine, Tundra has a big 8 but the frame sizes and weights are almost the same so Tacoma is really working hard all the time, carries a fraction of the Tundra. I love Toyota, wouldn't get anything less because of reliability but sadly there are shortcomings to the Tacoma. I would rather tow a trailer behind than try and squeeze a camper onto a low capacity truck. No way that would be able to do any dirt or off road trails with a camper. Yes, Bob seems like a nice guy on his youtube videos. Would like to meet him some day. All videos appreciated and a very nice way to see options and tahanks to all who allow us into their homes

I did not realize that those smaller garden sprayers are a full gallon. I found two gallons will do it for me, but I prefer to end by pouring the last gallon over my head at once. I bought a three gallon sprayer, and it was too big for my space, so I returned it to HD. I am still putting a sauce pot in the stock pot of heated water and just pouring it over my head. Simple is best. I wasted money on a Coleman water heater that was lukewarm too often.
