im sorry trucker television.. but as a 25 yr veteran driver, laidlaw is one of the worst paying companies in the industry. between them and challenger, they have to take out full page adds for drivers. Why?? cause between shareholders and investors and buying new equipment, not to mention state of the art truck terminals,... the drivers are so far down on the food chain they are all but forgotten.. try paying your drivers $30 an hr with benifits or your owner ops over $3 a mile, while you still pay lic and insurance,,,??? huh?? why not.. cause you haul cheap freight while undercutting your compatition and pay your big wigs a bonus which the driver gets zero .. except for the usual ball cap and t shirt. maybe an ice scapper or a coffee mug. On a good year you might be graced with a hoody or work gloves. Will this change ?? NO!! these companies are quite happy getting away with highway robbery. and they know there is a sucker born everyday.. In closing again this wont change. The big multy national companies in the states have made millions on hauling freight for pennies on the dollar.Just put a driver in a new disposible truck and he or she think they have it made. and in 5 years the " drivers wanted" adds will still be front page in the truck news papers..will laidlaw clue in ?? nope! they just keep recrueting more
n ya when young drivers like me want to get into the industry, nobody is willing to get them into the truck or train them, saying we want minimum 1-2 year experience.....how the hel wl u encourage new guys
come out west to the oil patch like everyone else is from cheap ass ont.. in grande prairie alberta,,fracing companies will train you and get your lic and pay for it to boot.. The problem is ,is when you go back home after a few years , your going to miss the $2500 a week, instead all you will make in ont is about $1000 a week.. maybe thats good enough after you take home your alberta money..
some ont drivers cant handle backing up. gravel roads are easy to drive on. but hard on a truck if you own it. there is mud ,gravel, snow and cold. im from ont and its nothing i cant get used to anyway. you have to be able to adapt.I dont hate ont drivers,just some of the companies.It sounds like you got your lic anyways . you must be doing alright then.
forgot to mention..not all alberta drivers are complete geniouses either. Ive seen some bone head moves out here too, dont worry. thing is here,,the oil and gas companies are zero tolerant to any incidence involving a truck
