In the Burger King in Kayenta, AZ, at 48:06 there is a wonderful display of artifacts about the Navajo code talkers. The Navajo radio operators communicated in encoded Navajo language during World War II in which the Japanese could not decipher.
You wouldn't have the issues you have with drivers here in Europe as it's illegal to pass cars from other lanes except the outer ( fast) lane. In the US it's crazy the way some cars are going 60mph in the far left lane and others doing 70 or 80 in the middle and far right lanes weaving over in and out of other lanes when they see an empty spot.
I wish the slower drivers would get out of the fast lanes, here in Chicago, the trucks are in the third lane. People enter the expressway and go right over to the third lane and crawl.
I lived in Cortez, CO for 4 years. Traveled all over that region, Blanding, Moab, Monticello, etc. Miss the area. Brings back wonderful memories. Thanks for posting this Mile.
Hello, I just came across your video early this morning. I am a previous truck driver and I sure do miss it. Riding Shotgun is the closest I've come to being in a truck in over 3 years. I immediately subscribed to your channel and to receive your video alerts. Thank you in advance for these videos, you have no idea what this has done for me.
Clear blue skies with the occasional set of whitish puffy clouds and there was me taking my time, videoing the scene when this big truck comes barrelling down on top of me , so what happens I continue doing what I set out to do and he passes me the first chance he gets and powers off onto the distance. Yeah some truckers have no sense that we motorists, driving aimlessly taking in the scenes enjoy slower driving but then as the truck passed me I noted it was good old Mike the Mountain Man, so knew as soon as I reached home, there would be a video showing my actions and his disappointment that tourists drive so slow. Incidentally Mike I'm still at home in Scotland so in theory it may have been me but probably wasn't - just passing time. Cheers Mate.
Atholl, dont you know by now that whenever you are about just putt, putting along Mike is going to be there pushing you along. Dont forget to wave at Mike the choked chicken as he flies by just trying to make a livn..HA
That’s how my truck moves 0 to 60 in 15 min might take longer at times ... might be I’m just a slow poke , whatever you do don’t get behind me when your on the road .and than once in a blue moon I get behind someone who drives slower than me 😮 ... Lov watching your travels and listening to your chats .
Hello Riding Shotgun Hey and Thank You for the beautiful video....great memories are awakened in us when we look at them... two years ago, at the same time, we drove right there in in a motorhome...many greatings from Germany
Hey everyone, i just donated and if we all did just a little, just imagine how people will be impacted.. Good job Mike for pushing this along. Ok now i'm ready for more, oh and by the way where is Mike the Choked Chicken? the whole world wonders
Global cooling air moved down from the frozen arctic and showered a couple of days here in Oregon, putting the wildfires out. Spectacular view there in Utah.
I just donated, glad to help. Thanks for the new video, going antsy missing the west! We were just up in Nebraska , Iowa & Ohio, nice open spaces but I really love the west landscapes.
Hi Mike, there called sticky notes we old people use em all the time, just label it "tandems move" and put it on the steering wheel, great timing on the scales, razzle-dazzle the weighmaster, thanks for the video, take care.............................see ya
Your last video I watched, you mentioned the White Bird memorial battlefield. I read up on it, very interesting. Thank you for mentioning it . Love watching your trips. Pl es I’ve never been to. I’m such a big history buff.
we were snowbirds for 10 years and took 191 fall and spring coming and going from junction to mesa -- you didnt point out the arches -- or the colorado river at moab -- springtime you cant get through moab for the bicyclers -- great place to eat at bluff -- thanks for the ride
Utah was looking so much like the desert SW that I had to look it up. Tada ... it IS the desert SW. 🙄 I have learned quite a bit in the brief time I have been watching your videos. I bought a very nice, bound World Atlas when my son was travelling the world with the Navy. It has helped me a lot, too. 🙂
First time I drove I-70 in Utah was westbound on a Yamaha 500 in August 1976 going from Virginia to Las Vegas. I have made that beautiful drive about a dozen times since, no prettier section of Interstate in the USA in my opinion. Love the video's. THANKS!
Hey Mike !!! Thanks for the ride !! In NC. ,They allow 39k on 1 set of tandems as long as the gross is NOT over 80k !! Use to haul ""CORONA """ beer out of SC & They always overloaded the nose of the trailers !! No scales in SC to the NC border on I-85 from the Shipper !! Most loads were delivered in NC., So NO problems there !!
So glad the prices of lumber has come down. If not yet used, I would have taken the material I bought at $600.00 back to store, then re-purchased it at the lower price. Wow what a huge difference. I loved riding shotgun. You see some beautiful scenery. Good luck with your new home. It sounds like it will be beautiful when your done building & painting.
Glad to be on the move again. You sure have been busy but the plan is good . This will save you money. With the savings get those suggested sticky notes. God bless you MMM
30:07 into the show Mike that guy is going too slow Mike, Mike whew just in time. Wonder what he thought when he saw nothing but blue with a silver bumper guard. My right leg is still shaking. Just couldn't push it through the floor hard enough. You see, folks, thats what you get when you RIDE SHOTGUN and you take your job seriously.
Hey man wondered where you bean, but you explained that you had problems with your thermostat, and it was a pain in the butt! I think you may have installed it wrongly. 🤣😅🤣😆🤣😅😅
....Great to hear you, and to see through the windshield.....filming the final days of the american empire.......stay strong and stay careful and be Safe and Ready, at all times....Bravo!
You ever stop at an old truck stop in Greenriver that has an old diner? They have the best biscuits and gravy on the planet! Used to stop there while trucking cattle to Utah from feedlot in Mack or Montrose. Altough u do need to have a roll of TP about an hour of stopping there but wroth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Mike: interesting story about your shed, is a 4x12 or 3x12 enough slope to handle the winter snow fall in Colorado? Seems as if you have a heavy snow and don’t clear it you may have issues with too much weight on the roof? I guess since you live there you would know? Nice video enjoyed, thank you.
Leaking coolant from thermostat housing? Best to remove the studs and carefully file/grind the surfaces to a flat "plane" surface -- both surfaces, and use some sealant on the gaskets when reassembling. Put in a new thermostat. Just heard you did a radiator flush. Good idea!
Need a stencil and some spraypaint going over how they failed at tagging giving them a 0.5 out of 5 as a score. If they will need to pressure wash it/paint it might as well have some fun at the same time.
I don't remember going into the scales if I was going straight through to Az. When east bond I had pulled into that scales . But maybe I forgot about that or I don't remember it to much because it was back in 2005 or 06 when I drove down that road .
Whenever I pass a truck I make sure I'm going faster than the truck so I'm pulling away when I change lanes to get into their lane after passing. I hated it when driving the motorhome and towing the trailer when someone pulled in front of me and slowed down.
Beautiful scenery. I'm not from the US, but I think I have seen this landscape before in photos etc (esp. the location at 30:50). Can someone tell me what/ where this route is? thanks.
I was there literally on Tuesday this last week had a load from slc to dallas. 191 to 490 i think on down to nm to I40. Had a clown going the same speed and when there were 2 lanes he would go 1 to 2 mph above me just to stay in front.
Tonight’s news Feds looking to change how truckers are overly delayed while waiting to be unloaded. They said a change in regulations is needed to protect the truckers from being miss treated and causing E-log scheduling. Federal Gov. said they have received a mountain of complaints from truckers and trucking companies. This is about time! I wonder? This should be very interesting 😁🇨🇦 Michigan
Do you know what is the last thing that goes through a fly's head when it hits your windshield? -- -- -- ...its rear end! (my former boss told me that one, courtesy of his aunt)
hey Riding Shotgun, can you do me a favor? Can you film a lot in Phoenix, Az.? I was from Phoenix, Az. and moved here in Mobile, Al. back in late 2009. So as you can see, it's been nearly 12years I haven't seen my hometown. You know like travel through where ever you need to go in Phoenix, dropping/unloading off trailer, loading/pick up trailer.
I had to laugh at you talking about UT-95. I had to deliver jet fuel to Halls Crossing...which is 80 miles west of Blanding. However, I had to go the long way around to get there from Phoenix. 3hrs from Hanksville to Halls Crossing. Really pretty country, though.
We enjoy your videos, thanks for posting them. I have a question if you don't mind. Does the truck feel or handle any different while driving on the highway with the axles on the trailer forward or back? I know having them forward makes turning easier. Thanks.
