Brother, I have 30 years in trucking. You MUST factor in tires, preventative maintenance, scheduled maintenance, and the devil of unscheduled maintenance. If you have a rookie driver, you see higher maintenance. At the end of the day, you are barely breaking even. Here are some horror stories I have had with drivers in the last 30 years. A Jack knife in California Truckee, towing and recovery $8000. Engine failure in El Paso TX, $26000 for a rebuild., Theroking Reefer repair $6000. The list is endless and unpredictable. If I knew what I know now, I would have been better off, buying trucks, and selling them to drivers under a lease purchase, so as to avoid these unforeseen expenses on the company. Pay close attention to what I have said. May God bless you, and Good Luck. Shalom.

Watching this video make me think if you are new in the business be very careful, 5500 a week sounds like unbelievable i be super comfortable with it, but the break down on this video still goes beyond what he explained, there's truck payments, tax payments, some tolls payments and down the road big maintenance like tires and parts isn't so easy like most new CDL Think it's. Good video but just adding that.
@tristannutall2129
@tristannutall2129 2 года назад
Not really unbelievable there are a lot of companies paying good. And l sure there are no truck payment or he would have including it. Also maintenance is not a recurring cost unless you have a maintenance funds which you should. But this is not a account you should take with a truck note because of taxes. But payed off truck and driving yourself this would be heaven lol. Especially if you add a day
@driveandgrind2711
@driveandgrind2711 2 года назад
@@tristannutall2129 you think he is talking about company drivers making $1100 a day? I promise you he is not. Also like the guy said above $5500 is not very good, it’s not terrible but you better up it pretty quick or you gonna fail. For instance a tank of fuel is $900 and that will last you about two days.
@tristannutall2129
@tristannutall2129 2 года назад
Lol well common sense would tell me he is not talking about company drivers. And if $900 in fuel last you two days you need a new truck. Cost $700 fuel for me and it last around 5 days going from Memphis to Nashville .But $5500 a week local is great with a paid off truck. So you should see no less then a 2k a week with a maintenance budget and after tax. So that’s pretty decent if you are ok with making around 100k with your truck. But this is with no note.
@tristannutall2129
@tristannutall2129 2 года назад
@Mine trucking is not rocket science it’s pretty easy once you get it going. It’s a business but there is always risk in any business but as long as you keep your truck running and up to code then you make money. Lol and no most people are scared to drive trucks and don’t want to be away from home so your statement is false. A lot of people on the internet alway seem to root for people to fail in trucking and saying how hard it is but it’s not that hard. Like I tell people there is good and bad but it’s somewhat easier then other start up business when you get going. This man basically showed you his breakdown with his driver and it’s making profit and haven’t left yet. The same people on here be the same people saying you can’t make $40000 a month just because they haven’t. I have meet people say you can’t make 5k local a week well I meet multiple people making $8000 on the same account. Like I said before $2000 should be take home after maintenance, insurance, fuel, and taxes.
@chris049
@chris049 2 года назад
If you have no driver that’s 187,000 a year with this particular method . There’s other loads and accounts as well , but I think this is better for someone who has multiple streams of income and doesn’t have time to look for loads and it’s steady pay he knows how much he’ll be making every week .

By the time you do the real hard numbers insurance taxes maintenance medical insurance storage retirement etc comes out to about 300-400 per day. I might as well drive for a company. Is it better to rent trailers when first starting up instead of starting off so deep into the red with truck and trailer expenses?

A wise trucker once told me if he wasn’t going to make $1,500 for the day the job wasn’t worth it. When his truck moves (and it always moving) you know without a doubt he’s making a profit. Anyone tries to ‘talk him down’ in price he tells them the job isn’t worth it to him and he’s not going to budge on price.
