My first day of driving, March of 1977, l went up Sherman (with Lincoln’s head) in a 1977 Peterbilt 352. I missed a gear and ended up on the side of the road. Asked the guy training me to get it up to the top. He said nope, and I was shaking and sweating by the time I got to the top.

Going over the Sierras during winter and at night is an experience. I remember when I had to do that when I went solo. I just took it slow and stayed in the right lane. Putting on my hazards whenever I went below 40 mph. Also going over the Rockies at night heading into Salt Lake from the I-80 can be an experience as well. And least I forget Cabbage on the I-84 between Oregon and Washington! That one will also earn you some strips. Those places, IMHO, are good locations to drive and have under your belt as a trainee before heading off on your own but I know that sometimes it's not possible for trainers to get loads headed to those areas.
@RunningOTR
@RunningOTR Месяц назад
Yeah I agree with you winter is no joke with them crazy steep terrain and mountains. But it’s an experience anytime it’s snowing or ice I take it really slow keep a far distance and never hit my brakes hard. As far as training during winter I think I’ll pass on that 😂 saftey first

@@lmao7183 I’m definitely a thrill seeker haha 🤣 you’re right I may end up with grey hairs by the end of the drive shift during winter ❄️ but still I’m okay on training during winter I rather pass on it. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Congrats to Angel on getting the CDL!!! @RunningOTR, love the video as always. Even though you won't be doing all of TNT with Angel, will these loads with you still count toward his 50K miles?

Another great video, young man. BTW, u have come a long way with your videos. Your confidence really comes across in a real positive manner. In addition, I like your professional look. Ur always well groomed wear a nice collared athletic type shirt. Good professional vibe Keep doing what ur doing. You're smart, very punctual, and on point. 5hat comes from 58 years of knowledge , wisdom, and some success in business

What is TNT? I wouldn't want to live in FL either, too darn hot, humid and mosquitoes. I live in northern AZ, it's pretty nice here but does get hot for 3 months in the summer. Utah is a pretty state to drive through. Congrats Angel on getting your CDL!
@RunningOTR
@RunningOTR Месяц назад
Good morning yes definitely Florida is way too hot especially during the summer. I only love Florida because fishing is great there 😃 I like Arizona but it also get very hot during the summer but usually it’s the dry heat instead of the humid heat like we have in Florida. I love riding thru Utah Wyoming Colorado Kansas Nebraska Iowa it’s very peaceful and not much going on like other places. Angel did very well with getting the cdl that’s for sure 👏 tnt is the second part of testing where you have to run with a trainer over the road for 50,000 miles before you can get your own truck. In that time period you learn the job driving picking up loads checking in etc plus you get a lot of practice backing. As long as you don’t get any critical events during training you can get our own truck after you hit 50k miles. If you have any issues during training they may extent another 10k miles if you get a hard brake or a possible rollover stability alert

Hey I’m over here now left Sacramento near Portland Oregon on tnt & then mountains over here is no joke at all! It’s like there are nonstop! You keep going up & down 😅 I don’t think I can adjust to this side lol 🤦🏾‍♂️
@RunningOTR
@RunningOTR Месяц назад
Yeah man I went up from California to Oregon on I-5 and then went from Oregon to Washington and I agree with you steep grades sharp curves definitely not fun heavy and in snow and ice. Stay safe out there and take it slow 🙏 at least that’s what I do in dry summer months and extra extra slow and careful in winter months when it’s snow slush and ice on the road

@RunningOTR
@RunningOTR Месяц назад
Thank you very much he did great 🙏 I’m not really up for driver facing cameras honestly there is really no need for them I agree with outward facing ones but inside should only be for people who break the rules get citations critical events texting and driving maybe an accident etc that’s just my opinion

I left Prime in early 2021 during TNT. Really wish I could have had a level headed trainer like you. I would have stayed the entire run if that were the case.
@RunningOTR
@RunningOTR Месяц назад
Why did you leave? Did you have a bad trainee? You could have asked them to change your trainees if you went satisfied. I know some people have 3 trainees before they find a good one
@juniortrucker3389

Sadly enough my overall decision was made because of the trainers I was put with. The first was very dirty. His truck smelled like garbage and he had urine bottles throughout the truck. I literally abandoned myself at a truck stop and spoke to my FM and told him I couldn’t live in those dirty conditions any longer. My second trainer was clean, but we didn’t vibe very well together and he always spoke about women and how many he had slept with during his life. I’m a married man with a kid and a wife and I’m not into that kind of thing. It was really awkward on his truck to be honest. The biggest issue with him though was that he would refuse loads constantly, his truck broke down multiple times. And we simply just sat most of the time I was with him. Making my 50k seem like it would never end. I wasn’t learning anything and it was honestly starting to make me think. I ended up talking with the wife and made the decision that it wasn’t financially worth it to continue the time with Prime. I felt bad thinking they maybe I should just suck it up and finish. But really, I sat and thought about the pros and cons of staying or leaving. So I ended up renting a car from Pennsylvania and driving back home.
@RunningOTR
@RunningOTR Месяц назад
@@juniortrucker3389 wow that’s crazy sorry you had a few bad trainers that really sucks you had to leave just because of the experience you had. It’s hard to find nice trainers out here. It’s definitely a hard thing to find a good trainer since most of them don’t care about you they are dirty or just plain disrespectful. Are you still driving truck local in PA?
@juniortrucker3389
@juniortrucker3389 Месяц назад
@@RunningOTR Actually I ended up renting a car and driving back to Iowa where I live. We were at a hotel for three weeks while his truck was being repaired. I met a lot of good people at Prime. Most were willing to help. But I also know that not all trainers are bad. I just got a bad few. But there are obviously a lot of bad trainees out there too. A lot of them don’t understand that they are there to learn and that they are sharing a truck with someone who calls the truck their home. I always tried to respect my trainer and their property. I was a guest on their truck and I was a sponge trying to soak up as much of the industry as I could. Always wanted to run OTR, but now I actually work for Casey’s as a Truck Delivery Driver. I’m home every night except one and make good money. So even though I don’t work for Prime, I’m thankful for them for giving me the opportunity to obtain my CDL.

@@RunningOTR There were a lot of bad trainees too. I was always trying to be respectful of my trainers because it was their home and I was a guest. Just tried to soak up the information I could to make myself better. I work for a local convenience store as a Grocery Truck Driver so I’m very blessed. Would love to come back to OTR. But now’s not a good time as far as freight is concerned.
